Funny you should say that, Night Driver. I had a concealed handgun permit from 1994 to 2004. I let it lapse since I moved downtown, out of gang infested Killingsworth and 45th, and no longer needed it. ha ha ha At any rate, I just went online, and assuming they still have a record for me, at least I can skip the handgun safety class and fee. Yeah, I am looking to renew it in January, as I think the chance of a violent engagement with an Antif/Homless type, of which I've already had several, will increase. On thing for sure is the rule of law no longer applies in Downtown since the powers that be are spineless, gutless fools.

That's for sure! I was last in Portland about 1998 or so, when it was still nice. I was even thinking about looking for a job in the area.

Yeah, Doomer, you need to be carrying. *I* would be carrying if I lived there. Sometimes the only way to stop a violent person hopped up on drugs is with a bullet.

Our son flies in and out of Portland on business trips all the time. Oh, the stories he tells! He was born and raised in conservative Mississippi (still lives here), and he feels like he's on another planet when he travels there.

My daughter attends college at the ultra liberal private school in Portland, the one named after the two explorers. The stories she can tell about her professors and what they say. I like to visit, but also enjoy flying home to a somewhat sane state.

How can they calmly stand around in uniform and present themselves as respectable and authoritative, yet at the same time, ignore the complete breakdown of a society????

I could not live there, especially with fat chicks like that trying to order me around. That nonsense would not fly, and there'd be a lot of minor trauma cases in the ER and I'd be spending a lot of time in traffic court.

Either that, or I'd be reenacting the short story "Tomorrow", which is posted somewhere here on the forum.

Nah, I'm stuck here for good, unless I win a multimillion dollar lottery or something. LOL I've lived in Portland since 1980, and downtown since 1994, so I have very good situational combat skills, and no, I don't feel threatened by these antifa thugs. The key issue is the system will crush you if you defend yourself. The combat zones are also very time focused, whenever the conservatives come to downtown, and street specific. If you know downtown as well as I do, you can easily avoid the fecal material, at least related to the ongoing riots we have here whenever the two groups demonstrate.

The massive homeless problem is harder to avoid, but they leave me alone since I look mean and apparently give off an aura of "I will beat you within one inch of your miserable life if you F%^^^ with me. Besides, I carry Pepper Spray, and a folding buck knife on my person at all times I have gone back and forth on renewing my handgun permit, for the simple reason that if I ever use it, whatever my self defense status is, I WILL HAVE THE FULL WEIGHT OF THE PC SYSTEM COME DOWN ON ME, IN TERMS F GRAND JURY INDICTMENTS AND FACING THE KIND OF MARXIST JURIES WE HAVE HERE IN MULTNOMAH COUNTY.

At any rate, I am a most fortunate revolutionary in the sense I don't have to do anything but wait till the system goes down, which is imminent in my view, and then just do whatever the hell I want to. On that day, these people are going to pay for all the crap they have dumped on me.

BW, I guess I have a much different perspective than the posters here on timebomb. You are all assuming this current farce of a corrupt, spiritually and financially broken system is going to last much longer. It will not, and when, not if, it goes down, the powers that be won't be worried about little old moi. :vik:

Further, BW I NO LONGER CARE WHAT "THEY" THINK AT THIS POINT. Now when "they" finally come for me, I intend to go down hard, and fighting. So, "they" aren't going to do anything to me, other than shoot me down like a dog, so why should I care at this point.

I will turn 65 in about 40 days or so. Perhaps that gives me a new perspective, or not, but what it does do is make me totally unconcerned about continued existence. I simply don't care if I die at this point.

I read somewhere a quote: "Never contend with a man who has nothing left to loose." nuff said.

It is hard to go back into another line of work that pays the same in most of the major cities anymore. Top out pay appears to be about $90K/year. That means an OT rate of about $65 AN HOUR. You think they want to stop the madness? How many people have been killed in all these ridiculous skirmishes? How many shot or stabbed? If things get to a certain level, most cops would quit. Unless there is a mass exodus of at least hundreds of officers leave year after year, outside of retirement, and almost no one applying, then things can't be all that bad. Lets say an officer average four hours of OT pay per week. That right there is an additional $13,520 in wages.

I wouldn't be surprised if most no longer care about what anyone else thinks of them. Historically, the issue with police work is that people go in it for the long term as noted above. The term is usually at least till one is locked into the pension, though they might not be able to take payments for another five to fifteen years. This varies form state-to-state. Looks like PPD has a five year vesting stage, but the soonest one can get the pension check is age fifty, but that is likely at a reduced pension.

The people they serve voted for this madness, so why would an officer jeopardize their six-figure a year job when their bosses are far left themselves?

What is happening in Portland will eventually happen in almost every major US city. It will eventually spread to smaller cities as well. There was a recent thread here about how far left the country has already moved. One member said his daughter, who I'm guessing was raised hearing more conservative viewpoints, returned home for the holidays from college and the indoctrination was pretty clear after a political discussion. The member said they just let the discussion die.

We have been a socialist country for a while now. VA Healthcare outside of treating injuries during service time is socialist. Social security is socialist. The federal government backing mortgages and student loans is socialist. Medicaid is socialist. Medicare is socialist.

Are we really shocked that young people want their bailout as well? Be it wages, healthcare, educational expenses? Also, the entire concept of this country being a "Christian" nation seems to mean nothing to most younger people. Why? Too much hypocrisy in the church by the leaders. Too much "You should live as I tell you, not as I do." We see people get wealthy preaching religion. We see religious leaders constantly sinning and getting into trouble. From theft to sex offenses. Young people today get that news instantaneously, then if it is being discussed with older people, they find out these things have been going on for decades. I believe this is a huge reason why so many young people have rejected religion and leading a religious life as it was back in the day. There are likely other reasons as well (not making enough money to attend church, working too much to attend, etc.). So this is why we have more and more people, especially young people, seemingly supporting abortion, supporting what used to be considered very alternative sexual lifestyles, etc..

I was raised in a fairly right leaning mid-sized metro in the Midwest. I bet around half my high school classmates are full tilt left. One tries to play a centrist, but every time he shares something on Facebook, it is a left leaning thought or ideal. These were kids raised in churches, but also kids who went away to college, whose parents were probably left of center, but enough right to move them to mostly white suburbs for better educational opportunities. I wonder what their parents would've said when asked why they didn't want their kids raised in a diverse city school system?

OMG. I didn't even finish the video for fear of subcomming to a massive bout of splodey head syndrome. So so sad and dispiriting.

The pragmatist in me suggests it has to get this bad in order for the pendulum to gather enough energy to swing back toward health.

The nurturer in me wants to gather all y'all stuck in toxic liberal enclaves due to age, illness or income, and plop ya down in a co-op somewhere safe, sane and southern.

I wonder what sort of impact this has had upon property values and rents in the area over the last couple of years?...
