…… Lively hearing aids

DH needs hearing aids. We went to an audiologist and got an extensive hearing test. They sell aids for $3500 to $5000.
Online we can buy Lively pro2 for $1700. I uploaded his audiology tests for them to adjust the hearings before shipping them to us..
There isn't much difference between them, same 3 year warranty, same 3 year service. Both advanced digital hardware and software. But the Lively can be adjusted through software online, where the other (Oticon) is 70 miles away to get service and adjustments.

So my question is, anyone here have experience with the Lively hearing aids?

Yes! Have been totally pleased with my Livelies! Got them earlier this year.

Have a quick online Lively audiologist check in over Zoom about every 6-8 weeks.

Love the ability to set different characteristics such as volume, bass, treble, fine-tune frequency responses, noise cancellation, increase voice sensitivity, save custom settings, etc.

Depending on how much wax your ears produce will determine how often you need to change the tiny filter. The symptom that it likely needs changing is the volume in that ear goes down substantially. Sometimes brushing it off with the little brush will clear it up and gain you a few days/weeks before changing the filter. I end up changing my filters every 4-6 weeks but have occasionally had to change them in only 2-3 weeks.

They come with a large supply of filters and Lively will send you more for free.

But, yes, very pleased! Wish I had gotten them 5 years ago!

That's great Kris! Just the type of real review I was hoping for, someone who has them and says they're good.

(I don't trust the online reviews)

The Nano's are too small for him. But thanks.
The Lively come with several little bags of small, medium and large earbuds in both “open” and “closed” versions as well as “tulips” which are flexible “one size fits all” (usually).

The Lively typically come with the tulips installed. I would suggest trying them all as you might be surprised which ones you end up liking best as to comfort, fit and staying in place.

You have to take the earbud off to change the filter so that is a good time to try a different size, shape of the available earbuds. Wear them for a few minutes, hours, days and if you don’t like them switch. Rinse and repeat until you find the earbuds you like best.

Trying to hang out with the cool kids.
If you are ever wondering how you will afford the cost of future hearing aids on a fixed income, please consider OTC hearing aids from "Otofonix". I have been using them for over 4 years. Five models to choose from, some are rechargeable, some use batteries.
I prefer to use the 312 batteries because if you forget to place your units on the charger you have to wait 6 hours to use them!
Or... use them as back-ups if your Livelies get misplaced or wet.

(I have no affiliation with the company)

Well, he's already lost one. I walked around an acre where he was, scanning for a Bluetooth device with my phone, and no joy.
Had to order another one ($200) because they do have a replacement policy while in warranty. They are sending out a new set because they come as a set, and then I return the set we have, minus the one hearing aid.

So, I have ordered two different typed of "leashes" for his hearings aids. Meanwhile he isn't allowed out without a hat crammed down to his ears to hold the hearing aid in place, lol.

He's been developing short term memory loss, it's gotten to where the repetitive things we've done every day for years he needs to be told how to do etc. I think it's senility not just memory.

Edited to add: they do work great. He's very happy with them, although I have to use the app to set them because he can't. Too complicated for him.

The only thing I don't like is that every time the app is closed, when it is reopened it defaults to 50% volume, and he likes it at 5% not 50%.

That has to be scary... Have you tried ginkgo biloba? It's not going to cure actual dementia, but it can make a dramatic difference to what I call "getting older brain"...

I've tried multiple things. Including that.
If I tell him more than one thing at a time, forget it. If I give him a measurement, he forgets it within about 5 seconds.
If he asks me how I want something done, even if I draw him a picture, he forgets he has a picture.

He still wants to drive, but now isn't sure how to get where we're going. He's confused by the controls for wipers, power windows, which is the radio versus the climate control. I'm going to have to take over soon.
Sigh

Found! DH accidentally found his hearing aid! It sat out on the ground for days and days, and got rained on at least 4 times. I recharged it, and it seems to be fine! I canceled the replacements, and the new "leashes" or "tethers" are doing a bang up job.
Very happy!

The audiologist can set them to default to 5% rather than 50%. Just mention it during your next online check-in.
