For a guy who is supposably mentally ill, he sure planned well. Most mentally ill cannot think straight. They are paranoid, delusional and go off the deep end sporadically.

This guy has his wits about himself enough to shoot 2-3 places, take off on a motorcycle, get to his boat, and now is hiding somewhere else. And the cops are not at his home until 24 hours later? How weird is that. Would they not have been at his home and IN his home as soon as they knew who he was.

Something is fishy.

They are probably getting HUNDREDS of tips from people who are absolutely certain they've seen him... and they have to track every single one down. People want to help, especially if they're angry or scared (and this guy has certainly triggered both emotions), and between the pictures of him while shooting, and the older, chubbier pics, there's a bunch of buys up there who look "close enough" to a frightened citizen to be worth calling in.

They may well have had a cop sitting on his house, undercover and observing, from the minute they had him identified. But search warrants take time...

Jurisprudence takes a hiatus in these situations.

Off the top of my head:

One of the Boston bombers got run over because he might have been wearing a bomb. Eta faulty memory. Mea culpa
One of their friends got beaten to death after a lengthy interrogation at a private residence in FL.

A similar truck with an old Asian woman got shot up when the big bucket-head black guy shot up the popo in CA. (CAN'T remember his name) iirc they burned him out of a cabin too.
Eta: Dorner. Apparently they shot up 2 vehicles. One with 2 Latino women, one driven by a white guy. Ref a quick wiki search.

Not shedding tears for any of the above referenced incidents. Just pointing out how malleable exigent circumstances make our Constitution. (There's a bigger lesson wrapped in there somewhere)
