I'll concede to that. I don't know all the herbal cures and treatments out there. I was only going on my own research of the smallpox virus. I guess we all need to stock up on the Purple Pitcher Plant and know how to use it, then.

I'm not advocating people taking any kind of vaccine, especially, since Covid. I have received the smallpox vaccine, though, as a child.

Point being. There are so many different diseases, known and unknown, that we can't possibly know the homegrown and medical treatments (if any exist) for all of them. All we can do is to use common sense and prepare the best we can.

Your in luck!

Purple pitcher plant grows very well in the southeast.

Look for it in mid/late spring. The plant likes dappled shade and moist loamy soil. You have to look under the leaves for the flowers, the flowers don't last long. I find mine growing under some small saplings, usually with Sweet William (looks like yellow or purple clover) a few feet from our creek. Pitcher plants like for the temperatures to even out between freezing at night and high in the afternoons. I have also found it growing with ferns.

What little I know about purple pitcher plant is that it is a low dose botanical. Please be careful and check around a lot for research and whatnot.

Lots of yummy plants out there right now. Remember to leave some for next year!

We were discussing the “possible” disposal of an armadillo with a friend a few weeks ago and of course, firearms were discussed. Well, of course, you have to hit one in the correct place or you won’t kill it (I personally don’t have a real clue about how hard their armor is, but can imagine that like a wild boar, placement would be key.) Anyway, the caliber went up jokingly to a ridiculous level and all I could think/say was, “And you are going to clean that mess up how?”

The best answer was actually to rid the yard of the grubs they’re going after and let it move on. We don’t have tons of them at any one time, but we have enough. And I cannot recall if they are the seven or nine banded type. Of course, I am sure both could be here. I just stay away from them. They aren’t cute to me.

And furthermore, none of the dogs running around are cute either. You know we had the dog next door running over here in my last saga (trying to sneak up and bite type). Well, I finally got the owners name and number and every time I see the dog I call the owner and tell him it’s out and I saw it in the road and am afraid it will be hit (wishful thinking). I’m TRYING to be nice.

On the leprosy, did anyone else notice that the article said that they are working on a vax for this??? Yay. I’m lining up. (Not). However, the antibiotic treatment looks hard and possibly long. Not anything I’d want to do.
Firedance, I kill them all the time here in north Arkansas with a .22. Their shells aren't that hard.

Smallpox has "officially" been declared "eradicated," but can survive for centuries in closed, dry spaces like ancient caves (which often have burials in them) and a few familiar places. The epidemiologists mean it has been eradicated from the living human population.

Officially, only two labs (one in the US and one in Russia) retain smallpox samples in case of an emergency. In reality, it is likely that some countries, possibly Iran, North Korea, pre-Gulf War Iraq, and a few others, not only have samples but have also developed so-called "Black Pox" bioweapons.

This is another reason why "official" labs in the US and Russia have samples so new vaccines can be created if they are suddenly needed. However, the evidence is that current vaccinations may not affect the "unproven" varieties of "Black Pox."

Nightwolf started out as an herbalist before he went to medical school, and there were a few things he couldn't find effective herbal or "natural" treatments for that might work to halt the disease. One was low thyroid, which I have, and another (if I recall correctly) was Smallpox.

In a TEOTWAWKI situation, it might be possible for a medical person (or one with a good book and some understanding of the science) to create a vaccine/treatment out of either cowpox or the old way of "vaccinating" people using pus from an infected person's stores and places a tiny bit of it on a cut made on someone's arm. This first "vaccination" goes back to the 18th century. George Washington required his troops to take it during a breakout during the Revolutionary War. The problem was the death rate from the disease, going from mild symptoms (like cowpox) to full-on and fatal. Smallpox was way too high for a modern medical practice to accept. It was even too high for many in the 18th century who preferred to take their chance with the disease itself rather than risk death from "vaccination" created cases of the disease.

In a Collapse of Civilization scenario, more people would be willing to take the risk during a severe outbreak. Still, many would refuse if there wasn't a local outbreak going on, especially after a few people died from the attempted "prevention."

There are ways to TREAT smallpox (and a few other old killers) that can help people survive, but most are Common Sense. The Elizabethan "cure" of a "Red Wool Blanket" to wrap the patient doesn't do much, but wrapping them up in any color of wool blanket can help the body cope with high fevers, and wrapped tightly prevents the patient from scratching themselves in their agony, which leads to horrific scaring if they survive (often on the face). Keeping people clean, hydrated (with broth when possible), and otherwise supported can help their immune systems fight off the disease. That isn't a cure, but it means more people survive the illness.

This is not something to play around with. Even diseases that can be treated today will need more to treat a large outbreak quickly. Again, exhibit A is Yrsinia Pestis (Black Death), which is treatable with antibiotics, but you wouldn't have enough of them fast enough if there was a considerable outbreak (or biological attack) that infected hundreds or thousands in a few days.

Panic Sex Lady
Having reflected on my inability to make myself understood, I will try to explain something.

Leprosy spreads through coughing and sneezing fomites that live on surfaces for 46 days and even in soil for an unknown period.

The leprosy article cautioned that leprosy in the U.S. is imported by "migrants" coming over the border illegally.

The five or six articles about illegals working in meat-packing plants were released nearly simultaneously with the leprosy news.

The thought of leper snot in a meat packing plant was bad enough. But then I remembered the hotdogs I ate for supper the night before.

That was the most heartfelt "God Almighty" you could imagine. However, without the proper context, it is understandable that Southern Breeze would panic.

Panic Sex Lady has given up hot dogs - that kind anyway...

I think we're at the point that we either raise our own or buy from a local farmer. Although, I'm thinking that Hebrew National hotdogs would probably be safe.

Your sympathy is misplaced. SB didn't panic. Your comments made it sound like you were. As all your posts do.

So if you don't want people to think you're in sex panic mode, maybe you should learn to write better. They have classes for that.

I think it's all about perspective. I don't see Helen as running around with her hair on fire, I see her simply warning of what might be. I highly doubt there's too many here that are fearful or run around with their hair on fire. The whole part of being prepared is so we don't need to freak.

Helen's track record is pretty good, so when she talks about something I'm going to listen, because honestly, the stuff she's warned about that came to pass was not anything I would have imagined. If her posts bother you, there's always the ignore feature.

Whatever Helen does, who or whatever she IS, I read everything she writes. Because of her I'm stocking the pitcher plant tincture for smallpox, because of her I'm at least thinking about fire. Because of her the Tulsa dig-up-the-smallpox-cemetery was particularly horrifying, with pics of the diggers not even wearing gloves.

She says it's the math...I for one am so grateful it's not me, and she is strong enough to bear it, and even send some of the info our way.

Helen is the absolutely LAST person I would block.

(We love you, H)

Thank You Hellen. You flesh out what the concerns are about leprosy and you protract the implications as we should.

Trying to get my head around the implications of leprosy, measles, ebola, tuberculosis and the many I can't think of being spread in different parts of the country is more than I can imagine.

Then we have gatherings for an eclipse and then presidential politics all over the country. Well, all warnings are welcome.

When one has a really good track record of being right, I see warning, nothing more. However, I don't live in fear. It really is that simple.

Having a good track record is a matter of opinion. I don't live in fear or panic mode, either. I do like being aware of what's going on, though. I use my own discernment when reading certain articles. If I need to do something to protect me and my family, it is based on discernment and common sense, not fear or panic.

I think you're talking to the wrong person here about this. I have very few people on ignore. If I don't like something someone says, i scroll by. I'm really done with this whole conversation though. I hope you and Cary have a wonderful, blessed day! :)

I told the mods that I was leaving the thread. When Helen mentioned me in a snarky way, I decided to respond. I had no intention of getting back in the fray, until then.

If people don't like what I have to say, they can put me on ignore, or scroll on by what I say. Not everyone here has the same views, perspectives, or opinions.

OK, guys... have we settled this? Remember, not everyone is in the same place when it comes to preps. If warnings get people to prep, but you don't need them... great! But let's stop attacking the messenger. All anyone has to do is look at Haiti... or Cuba... or Venezuela, to see what might be coming here.

And while leprosy may not be a widespread problem, other infections *will* be. Lack of sanitation and loss of effective antibiotics will be deadly for millions if infrastructure breaks down. I've seen common lacerations and punctures blow up into potentially life threatening infections literally within hours of the injury. We also knew a dairy farmer... a healthy man in his 40s, who *died* from an infected hangnail on his hand. It went from swollen and red, to leaking small amounts of pus, to sepsis, in about 48 hours.

Let's stop attacking each other and concentrate on the very real threats, ok?

As far as I'm concerned, it's settled and has been, until Helen's snarky comment. Yeah, I'm outa here, again.

@SouthernBreeze ... honestly, I didn't see the snark. I think an awful lot of people are on edge. Please, take a step back and try to calm the instant offense. It's unlike you guys, and it's not only you who are overreacting. I'm expecting something big and ugly very shortly... the board temperament is crazy lately.

Summerthyme

Yes, I've noticed that the temperament on the board has changed. Like you and so many others, I, too, am expecting something big to happen in the near future, so I guess I'm on edge, too.

Yes, they do! Can you imagine how awful it would be if I hadn't taken them?

Panic Sex Lady promotes panic...not me.

Surprise promotes panic. Therefore, I inform others with news articles to lessen surprise. Did you know leprosy spreads through coughing and sneezing? I didn't until I read that news article and looked.

Lack of information promotes panic. We learned there are possible herbal treatments for leprosy. I didn't know that until we started talking about it.

Auxiliary information is good. aintitfunny correctly pointed out that parasites coming in with migrants is also a problem. Some gut parasites have an egg stage that floats in the air and settles with normal dust. We might need to know that.

Everyone has thoughts and opinions and knowledge that enhance discussion. I pay attention to every post Southern Breeze makes about alternative health. I would never put her on ignore.

We're all in this together.
