Lanterns

This may have been covered here before. I'm sorry if this is a major repeat. But we found this lantern that burns most anything. And you can get an attachment so you can cook on top of it. Thinking of buying one soon! Anyone have one? Any reports on it?

no chance of starting a fire if i knock it over, uses very little power
but doesn't have that nice warm light an incandescent or kerosene lantern would have.

Aunt Peg,
These are your basic Petromax-design lanterns. The Britlyt company claims some patented differences that make them better than the basic Petromax, but also claims parts interchangeability. I know a lot about Pertromaxes - they are superb machines - but have yet to inspect the Britlyt version, so cannot fairly comment on it. I do own one of their stoves and it's a well-constructed device that uses several common Petromax parts, however as far as I can tell it is a contemporary design.
The basic Petromax lantern is the creme-de-la-creme of pressurized lanterns. It is extremely versatile, using a wide variety of fuels and is very bright. They are exceptionally well built and can take a lot of abuse.
I use mine for light and heat and recommend them highly to any serious preppers.

Best regards
Doc

Petromax Kits from Sportsmans Guide

Sportsmans Guide has this "kit" available for what looks like a decent price. They have a deal where you get almost 50% off the second kit, as well (so you would get 4 lanterns for $299).

Has anyone had any experience with these kits, from this supplier? It seems to be fairly "all inclusive" and a good start for someone who doesn't know what accessories to acquire, etc. (like me!).
