By a lot of international standards, Israel just declared war on Iran. I'm not sure they did, but bombing other people's embassies is considered a bombing of their legal territory. Iran may or may not decide to take it that way, ditto Syria. But maybe Netanyahu's response to hundreds of thousands of people in the streets of Israel last night demanding his resignation. He may want things so ramped up that even if he exits the office, Israel is at war no matter what.

This is scary...

As I said in the other thread (mods may combine them eventually), Under a lot of international traditions, Israel just declared war on Iran. Perhaps unofficially, but bombing or attacking someone's embassy is the same as attacking their sovereign territory in most cases. War isn't always the response, though I expected it when Iran took over the US embassy and held the personnel hostage (I was on my way to Venzuela, and I was terrified).

But the attack on the US embassy wasn't done (at first) by the sovereign government of Iran, but by student "protesters." This is one State bombing another State's embassy on the grounds of a third State.

The following moves are Iran's and Syria's; this could get out of hand quickly. Last night, thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of Israeli citizens took to the streets asking Netanyahu to resign. This may be his response to them and Iran/Syria.

They're doing this in an attempt to provoke the sort of response from Iran which will draw the West into the conflict. Because they need the West, and want Americans to sacrifice their sons.

Nah, Israel just doesn't put up with anything. If they had even a mild suspicion that embassy was being used for military planning... Well you can see the results.

(No I don't have any special insight into Israeli planning. I just don't think they care what the world thinks of them)

Oct 7 when Israel was attacked by Hamas, a proxy of Iran as everyone knows, Israel SAID it was war and they would do everything in their power to finish what Iran started, to wipe out the proxies so it couldn't happen again.

I actually think they have been too reticent in their actions.

What Iran did to them was the equivalent to our 9/11 and we went to war against 2 countries in retaliation. Why shouldn't Israel do the same?

Iran hasn't had any right to claim embassy or consulate sovereignty since they attacked & seized the US Embassy 40 years ago - you get what you deserve and ask for by your own actions .....

Israel saw an opportunity - nothing to lose and everything to gain >>> if a country wants to plan terrorist attacks out of their embassy - don't be a-crying when the target shoves it back in your face ......
