Interesting quote on why the Cultural Left automatically opposed Palin.

“This is why Palin was seen as anti-intellectual when, properly speaking, she was simply non-intellectual. What she lacked was not intelligence—she is, clearly, highly intelligent—but rather the particular set of assumptions, references, and attitudes inculcated by America’s top twenty universities and transmitted by the nation’s elite cultural organs.

Many of those (including especially those on the Right) who reacted badly to Palin on intellectual grounds understand themselves to be advancing the interests of lower-middle-class families similar to Palin’s own family and to many of those in attendance at her rallies who greeted her arrival on the scene as a kind of deliverance. But it is hard to escape the conclusion that while these members of the intellectual elite want the government to serve the interests of such people first and foremost, they do not want those people to hold the levers of power.

They see lower-middle-class populists like Palin and their supporters as profoundly ill-suited for governance, because they lack the accoutrements required for its employment—especially in foreign policy, which, even more than domestic affairs, is thought to be an intellectual exercise. It is for this reason that Barack Obama, who actually has far less experience in executive governance than Palin, was not dismissed as unprepared for the presidency. Palin may have been elected governor of Alaska, but his peers in Cambridge had elected Obama editor of the Harvard Law Review. He is thoroughly fluent in the parlance of the college town, and in the eyes of the new American elite, Washington is the ultimate college town.

As I have ranted, she was spotted immediately as a Josephine 6-Pac and no way are such gonna be allowed near power, no way.

I would say the nail was hit on the head. Intellect is valued over common sense in those areas of life where the air is thin.....

Or maybe stupid just doesn't sell.

It doesn't in your case. You're not a state governor by any chance, are you? She is, and as the O-gastic supporters of the Big O are slowly finding out, she has the executive experience that he so obviously lacks.

She can be Josephine 6-pack for all I care. She can't be any worse than the last 3....

It damn well does sell; the Socialists are in power and Socialism has never worked. The lefties pretend to be intelligent but have no original thought. Palin is miles above the so-called 'intelligentsia'.

Now running for Emperor.
Why is it then, that collectively, the "intellectual elite" are as dumb as a sack of rocks?

I hear them running about the country talking about how smart they are, but I keep hearing stuff like, "500 million Americans a month", and "1000 nuclear weapons", coming out of their pie holes.

Palin was never that important. The vote was for MCCAIN for president, not Sarah Palin.

And the majority of voters did not want McCain.

End of story.

I'd be curious to see a specific sourced example of the "cultural left vs Palin."

Compared, say, to Geraldine Ferrero?

I noticed tonight on Obama's press conference.....

that he dropped the "g" on his words a lot......I'm thinkin', I'm plannin', I'm doin'.......

something Palin was soundly criticised for doing as being uneducated.

When Obama is speechifying without a telepromter, he gets too cosy with the audience and drops into a speech pattern which makes him sound too casual......just like Palin, who connected with her audiences.

But does the media pick up on this?

Generally, no, they don't. Also, back around this time last year, when Barry first started affecting this sort of "black preacher rap" while reading his lame-brained lines off the TeleprompTer, they didn't pick up on that change, either, although it was laugh-out-loud obvious. Here's this guy, purportedly born in Hawaii, reared in Indonesia and supposedly educated at Columbia and Harvard, who never sounded like a Southerner in his life, and suddenly, at the age of 47, he starts sounding like the reverend at a revival in Birrmingham, Alabama.

Then again, a lot of our our media people (with some rare notable exceptions) have $500 haircuts covering 50-cent brains. Not surprising most of them missed it.

I don't see any conflict between commonsense and intellect.

However the cultural left think they're intellectual but in reality a few of them may be, however the majority of left wing voters are not intelligent, that's why they are in the lower strata of society

no party ever wins an election the current Govt always loses, especially in the current climate, no Govt could have remained in power with the worst recession in living memory, GWB took the rap however the Govt was only partly to blame, I put the majority of blame at the door of the banking community, the central banks and various Govts for not understanding banking and the monetary system consequently encouraging non-prime lending (community revitalisation) and dismantling controls (Glass Steagall)

Richard, do you not perceive that this collapse is planned?
you might want to research your british overlord's relationship via the Fabian Society to America's Shadow Government - the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).

Disagree with you here FL. If McCain were elected it would have put Palin one heartbeat away from the Presidency. That made her pretty important. As a governor she had an incredibly high approval rating. That did not happen just because she knows how to kill, butcher and cook a moose.

I felt sorry for her on the champagne trail. IMHO she gave me the impression she was being gagged and forced to speak the party line and only the party line. It appeared to me she could not even answer what magazines she subscribed to because the answer to that question hadn't been approve by TPTB. Granted she did not have much foreign policy experience. But if they had just let her say, "Ok don't have that but I can learn and will have the best people in the country to advise me", and then let her have some rein on domestic issues that were her strong suit where she could have shown her ability and intelligence and common sense, they may have done much better. Glad they didn't. They may have won!

That is what I was thinking. I voted for Mrs. Palin, even though it was registered as a vote for Mr. McCain.

Gov. Palin was smart enough, just too ignorant.

As I've posted before, dumbness can't be cured, ignorance can (with effort).

We have not seen the last of Sarah Palin!
