Volcano Iceland Geldingadalir Volcano Starts Erupting

The Iceland Volcano on the Reykjavík peninsula appears to be opening a fissure as we speak.

See the live stream at link below - You can see the smoke just right of center.

I would expect this to open into a full blown fissure splatter cone with 10-30 meters per second of lava emitted within the next 2-3 hours.

Did you manage to get a flight to Iceland?

Safe travels Warm Wisconsin. Please post pictures of your adventure?

Oozing lava people and critters can get out of the way of is IMO a good thing. Explosive volcanos hurling lava bombs with pyroclastic flows? Not so much. I'd rather have this than the Icelandic volcano that spewed dust and shut down air traffic in Europe a few years ago.

Hello Iceland, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
About a spectacle, fierce and bright,
An eruption, unfolding in the night.
Iceland's fagradalsfjall, in its full might,
Has awakened, with a glow so bright.

Can you see the fire dance in the sky?
A natural wonder, no one can deny.
It's not just terror, but beauty too,
A reminder of what the earth can do.

It used to be a hiker's delight,
Now it's a spectacle of the night.
Erupting ten times larger than before,
Its power, we cannot ignore.

Can you hear the mountain's fiery song?
In its presence, we are but small and young.
It's not just danger, but amazement too,
A testament to what the earth can do.

So, hello Iceland, my old friend,
This eruption, it's not the end.
It's a display of power and grace,
A reminder of our place.
In the grand scheme, we are but a speck,
Before nature, we must respect.

Stay safe, Warm Wisconsin!! I don't envy the danger but do envy the experience!

My dh and I were in Iceland about 25 years ago. We landed in Keflavik and stayed in Iceland for four days on our way to Finland. We toured in Reykjavik, enjoyed the Blue Lagoon, and drove a whole bunch of the back country roads. We probably saw this mountain as we drove on the road to the west of it. I'm sure glad it didn't do any erupting back then!!

Don’t let this bucket item slip! It’s cheaper than ever to travel to Iceland. $600 and 6 hour flight from Chicago. I have been many places on this earth and none compare to Iceland
Yes, I regularly see it on Travel Zoo, 3 days 2 nights $599 from NY, $100 more from Chicago.
Of course, I would do the winter one for the Aurora!

New live drone footage from Isak.

This eruption already has a larger splatter cone than the 2021 or 2022 eruptions.

Plus the cone is not stuck in a valley so you can get within 250 feet (at the moment) of the cone.

The site is now open to the public with a number of restrictions but still open.

Well I delayed my trip by 7 days. The grass fires near the eruption site and the people disrespecting the rules it looks like it will get shut down to the public until till they get more safety precautions put into place.

I can only travel there 5 days this time so I want to make sure my time there is onsite.

I am so glad i delayed my trip!

Just as I had suspected they shut down the eruption site to the public!

I would have arrived this morning

Actually this is good news Warm since it is NOT so far a catastrophic explosive cause a nuclear winter type one that indirectly caused the French Revolution from multiple crop failures. Any chance it shifts into shut down air traffic to Europe or fail the French wheat crop?

No chance of this type of event. It’s the wrong type of volcano

The volcano is still going strong.

It was amazing. The hike out to the actual cone was brutal and there was no trail out there the first two hikes out. very uneven ground with mostly loose rocks about the size of baseballs. It was only about 23 km but I was carrying 75 lbs on my back.

One picture was us coming up the backside of the volcano versus the live feeds you can find on YouTube. That night we spent 12 hours onsite and we were the only people there for at least 8 hours. Was kind of terrifying but totally awe inspiring to be there by ourselves. You could literally feel the power of the volcano in every part of your body.

I hiked a dress out for my wife. It was a lot of fun. However, moments after this photo the ground cracked under our feet and lifted up then fell like 6 inches. Some hot gases shot up 25 feet in the air. So we decided we move locations just in case a fissure opened up under our

Then some random pictures. I will try and get some footage to you tube soon since I can’t upload video to this platform. IMG_2160.jpegIMG_2122.jpegIMG_0335.jpeg
