Not sure how to put this. After my second steroid shot a month or so ago, as some of you know, two days later I had to cut the grass. And though I went slow, I had to stop multiple times for an extended break. At one point, my heart rate was 144! However, my pulse-ox showed (and still shows) 96% or so. My BP cuff shows about 130/75-ish. However, since that day, I’ve had little energy and tire easily. Yesterday I had to cut the grass again. Had to lay down for an hour after. Today I had to move 14 50# flagstones. Had to lay down all afternoon. I’m also weak and shaky, almost jittery feeling. And yes, all this predated my taking the vax.

While laying down, I was gasping for air. Yet pulse-ox was still 96. I used my CPAP and was able to breathe more easily.

I have to say I’m getting pretty anxious.

ETA: Walking the dogs any distance is out of the question. Hell, just walking any distance is out of the question.

Do you have sleep apnea? Chronic sleep deficiency can account for some of what you're going through. Even though it partially reverses over time, I highly recommend the surgery done for it.

Please get your dr.s input, then set about increasing your fitness. It seems counter intuitive perhaps, but the more you move the more able you will be to move. Don't forget you'd been less mobile for a while, so it may take time to rebuild.

And yes. Weight loss helps. You don't have to set a goal of 100% of the weight- But how bout 1% of the weight loss, and 5 minutes walking in place or up and down your hall. Push it now, or you do lose it. : (

Again. Not a dr, and slept at home last night, so get professional opinion. Also, anxiety increases heart rate too doncha know?

Prednisone and other steroids can cause a spike in blood sugar levels by making the liver resistant to insulin. The pancreas produces insulin to control blood sugar levels. Diabetes can result from a fault in the way that the body reacts to insulin or a problem with the production of insulin in the pancreas.

Note: Check with your doctor....was bitten by a wasp...Given a steroid...blood sugar spiked big time. You most likely need a comprehensive blood panel.

Dennis, I would see your family doctor for an EKG and blood work. Sometimes a person can go in and out of A- Fib so it’s hard to detect. I had A-Fib a long time before it was found.
I remember going to my family doctor and had to stop and rest three times from the car to his office. I said” Dr. Lewis we’re missing something.” He did an EKG found A-Fib and I was at cardiologist the next day and in the hospital that evening.
Praying for you Dennis.

Get your butt to the doc pronto. You may have developed asthma based on heat or stress levels. I developed that over the past few years; if it's hot and humid I'm gasping for air like you are. Doc may give you an inhaler of albuterol which you'll find to be a big help.
Dennis, when is the last time you had a cardiac stress test? That would help determine if there are any heart or circulation issues going on too.
Go to the doctor, explain what's happening and let them figure it out. As we all get older maintaining your health becomes more and more important.

I have albuterol but haven’t used it in a few months. I’ll try it now.

The last stress test I had was probably 20 years ago, if not longer.

But again, without medical insurance, I have to see if the VA will treat me.

Keep one or two good guns and some ammo you'd use. Sell everything else. Let's face it, they'll be no urban combat for you, just close in, at home self-defense and probably not more than a few times.

See a doc or two and live what's left of your timeline, maybe even somewhat enjoyably.

Your body is not use to that kind of work. Lifting the weight of the pave stones might just kill you. It may take a few days of rest from that. You might consider hiring someone to cut your yard or do it in stages.

Dennis, you need to get a stress test-just to make sure everything is ok. Have to get one every 3 years. Hate them with a passion, but they are useful diagnostic tools.

You're out of work; is there a way to apply for some form of state health care? Medicare or medicaid (can't remember which) might be an option. Try the VA and try your local health dept. If any illegal crossing the border can get medical care, then an honorably discharged soldier should be able to as well.
