I have some prep questions

I want to know where the least expensive place is to buy N95 masks? Same with latex gloves (not surgical gloves).
Also, people have mentioned buying canned whole chickens. What is the brand and where do you buy them? I have not been able to find them.
I also want to know if anyone has a source for shower/bath wash in gallon jugs. Thanks

Hi Taz-

Hope you're doing well.

I've seen the N95 masks, and latex gloves, and canned chicken(but not whole) in Big Lots stores all over Florida, and there's also a big discount tool chainstore in some of the stripmalls (can't remember their name ...they sells mostly cheap junk Chinese tools that break when you use them) that also had 12packs of masks . Can't comment on their quality, though.

Take Care,

Canned chicken

Boneless canned chicken can be bought from GFS (Gordon Food Service) for $8.29 for a 3 lb (48 oz) container. This is actually quite a lot of chicken.
You can buy canned chicken from the Internet Grocer http://www.internet-grocer.net/realmeat.htm in a 28 oz container for $7.03 per can (this price includes shipping). The 28 oz can is a more reasonably sized container for feeding a family.

I personally don't care for whole canned (boned) chickens because to me they seem greasy.

Thanks for the quick answers. I've seen the N95 masks, and latex gloves, and canned chicken(but not whole) in Big Lots stores all over Florida, Not in MY Big LOts. I haunt them everyweek for stuff, especially the boxed UT milk. The hardware in strip malls is probably Harbor Freight. I haven't found N95 masks there. Shoot....maybe I am living amongst a bunch of preppers that are beating me to the bargains. LOL But I will check google. I have already done the ebay route.

There's lots of good quality shampoos and conditioners available from the major pet suppliers, which would probably be just fine. Lots of different moisturizing formulas--such as oatmeal based, herbal, aloe--they would probably be fine and at a good price, too. One popular pet conditioner, Mane and Tail, became the rage for years and everyone was using it.

Taz;

FWIW - In every article I have seen concerning H5N1 (and what it takes to protect against it). When the subject came to masks - It was observed that it takes an N-100 mask (in the very least) to protect yourself...

Sorry Taz, you're right. Florida is a big place. I should have said Central Florida, ie: especially the Greater Orlando area, plus Altamonte Springs, Daytona, and definitely Kissimmee (oh yeah.. I forgot.. try the weekend Flea Markets, tool stalls)

And yes, it is Harbor Freight, thanks.

The canned whole chicken I have I bought at Tom Thumb here in Dallas. brand name is Sweet Sue. It is a 2 lb chicken cooked in the can like most canned meats.

Keystone Meats has awesome pork, beef, chicken and turkey. http:www.keystonemeats.com

I bought the masks at Walmart they were 2 in a package for 2.82, not sure if that is a good price or not. It is a maxi-mask ultra 95.. It says it imeets or exceeds the NIOSH N95 standard recommendation by both the CDC and WHO for health care workers treating airborne diseases. I also bought the can of whole chicken, it was around $5.00 for the 3lb. Not sure of the brand name, I would need to dig under the bed for that.;) I bought a 3 pack of boxes of gloves (100 in each) for $10.00 at Sam's.

Try Home Depot, in the paint department, Taz. They have them, in multi-pacs, or boxes of 12, good prices. The canned whole chickens we like, are "Chicken Ready" brand, made by the Atlapac Corporation, in the L.A. area. They usually run less than $3. We find it at grocery outlet stores around here called Pay & Pac, I think is the name. I have canned whole chicken pieces, also. I grilled the whole pieces, about half done, and then canned them in chicken broth. You can put raw chicken in a jar, too, I think, and pressure can it. But I like the grill taste, in the winter. But the ready canned ones are EZ and handy. Hope that helps. ;) It's Just Me

Do a websearch for Moldex 2400n95. These are really nice, they have activated charcola in them as well. Also an exhale valve.
If you have people with smaller faces than you'll need the 01 not the 00 version.
Do a TB search you'll find many vendors listed.

As for chicken, I buy whole chicken and cook and then can in mason jars, it the best way, because you know whats in there. Canning is easy to learn and do, get into it, lots of soups and other meals can be put up for hard times this way..

For shelf-stable Parmalat milk try your local WalMart. They are the only store around here that carries it for $1.48 a quart in whole and 2% types. Usually 6 month or longer dates.

Taz -- I get gloves at discount drug stores, masks at Lowe's/Home Depot, and Publix had canned chicken last time I was in Clearwater. I don't know about your end of FL.

Kroger carries chicken and tuna in foil packets, which I like a lot better than most commercially canned chicken. Agree with the home-canned chicken comment. Home-canned is best, but the stuff in the foil pouches is wonderful on camping trips.

I think you have Kroger there. If not, try an "upscale" Publix. I used to get most of my meals there when I was down working on elderly relatives' trailers. I was amazed at what they had! It was tons faster than going to a restaurant, plus I didn't have to cook or clean up.

For N95 masks, I have used Home depot. 20 masks for $20. That the cheapest I've seen these for. I also get a bag of 50 latex gloves there for about $3.00. Havn't seen it cheaper anywhere else. I use the gloves all the time for all kinds of jobs. They are not considered sterile though.

I buy my latex gloves at Costco. Sam's probably has them too. 200 gloves for $5.67.

Might check out Walmart.
