Flooding is the most common disaster in US....

Check out what FEMA has to say about preparation for Flooding. Flooding is the most common natural disaster in the United States and can happen anywhere. Flooding can occur during any season, but some areas of the country are at greater risk at certain times of the year. Coastal areas are at greater risk for flooding during hurricane season (i.e., June to November), while the Midwest is more at risk in the spring and during heavy summer rains. Ice jams occur in the spring in the Northeast and Northwest. Even the deserts of the Southwest are at risk during the late summer monsoon season. Flooding can happen in any U.S. state or territory. It is particularly important to be prepared for flooding if you live in a low-lying area near a body of water, such as a river, stream, or culvert; along a coast; or downstream from a dam or levee. Has No Life - Lives on TB
Add in some of those rubber coveralls with integrated boots that fishermen (and women) use and make it a package buy. I bought a pair after watching the people walk through that toxic sludge left after Katrina -- more than a few people developed some nasty skin rashes from being in that crap that passed for water. I'm definitely a fan of the kit-type boats and would recommend that route for anyone not an avid boater (that is, they wouldn't be regularly using their purchase). Don't forget that flooding is NOT just a hurricane-related event, so don't be complacent just because you don't live on a coastline. As a doomer exercise, try counting all the bridges (including the larger culverts) you cross every day -- you might be surprised to learn how many obstacles water and ditches put up without all those manmade structures making life easier.
