GUNS/RLTD How Many Rounds Will A 400 Dollar AR-15 Last?

Surprised we don't have a picture of a rusted out AK yet. :)

Page 2 and still on topic. Kudos.

Mentioned upthread is the fact most Americans are gun collectors NOT gun shooters.

Having an extra upper or 3 laying around should be like extra reading glasses...

Academic discussions are great. Real world applications make them a little less useful.

hen I was firing like an adult, the rifle was 1-1/2 moa with good ammo.
I'm not a heavy shooter either. As in thousands of rounds, don't have the money for it, simple as that. But do like to shoot when I can afford it, and am not concerned about SHTF in the next few months. hoarding ammo LOL

Also like to make sure the sights are all still zero at least once a year.

The Colt AR15 with 1/7 twist with Hornady V Max reloads on a bipod got 1/2 inch 3 shot group at 100 yards. They weren't tumbling either. Nice round holes two of which made a very nice figure infinity. Have witnesses but no picture.

Was getting set up for a test at 200 yards when a flock of shooters showed up, and being able to go down range and check targets would be, not only dangerous, but long waits between shots. So left and went home.

Those distances around here is about as far out as it gets. Did take a deer at 310 yards, with a .270 but that is an exception not the rule. The distance from my house to the front and back fences is 60 yards, so am thinking I'm good to go.

Between the AR and two shotguns with buckshot. I still don't see 5000 people laying dead around here. Hoping it never comes to that, but if it does, right here is where I'll make my stand. Even against old age. LOL

True.... Kinda..... The #1 problem with home/buddy built ARs that come into the gunsmith shop have barrels that the barrel nut was not properly torqued and it came loose. So..... maybe not....
My issue is lack of dexterity to do the work anymore. A lot of jobs I used to do are gunsmith jobs anymore.

Do a search for Filthy 14 - Bravo Company

They put a little over 31,000 rounds through it before calling it quits. It was cleaned twice. The first time at around 26,000 rounds. They used lots of Slip 2000. Replaced the extractor spring at around 13,000. Lost 2 lugs off the bolt at around 16,000. Replaced the BCG and kept on shooting.

Indication of a washed out AR is declining accuracy.

Accuracy in an AK?

Lots of people like to make fun of AK accuracy, but they are usually more accurate than people tend to give them credit for.

Another thing to consider is that very, very few people reload 7.62x39, but if you actually take the time to work up a load for an AK and carefully hand load each round - just as you might do for your hunting or target rifle - you can wring really surprising accuracy out of an AK.

Of course most people feed their AKs the cheapest, steel-cased dreck they can find and then blame the gun for unimpressive accuracy.

Battlefield Vegas has a series of videos on the lifespan of various platforms, to include the ar series.
Granted their standard of function is only to hit the paper and not shoot for accuracy or group, they like chrome lined barrels and keep complete uppers on hand to get the system back on line and making money.
They relate the most commonly replaced parts for all their systems found while shooting rentals hundreds of thousands of rounds per day.
Well worth the effort to watch for your favorite toy build.

Edited to add: I enjoy a PSA AR and see nothing wrong with any fit, finish, quality or accuracy issue.
And their company philosophy is cool.
