PREP How are you preparing for the warning from the forum member?

How has the forum member warning affected your preparation? Have you taken specific steps?

Upon reading it, I decided to do a couple of things that had been languishing:

I went through the storage room (mostly canned/dry goods) and grabbed items expiring in the next several months and moved them to the kitchen pantry for consumption. This also freed up some space for new items, which I'll hopefully get this weekend.

I also made a quick call to the propane company and had them put me down for a fill-up today. The guy just left... 500 gallon tank is now at 80% from 40.

Yesterday I topped off the gas tank in the urban assault buick. I filled up the gas can and bought some bottled water.

I filled up the two little propane tanks yesterday. Got told the one is almost expired. Gotta use that one first and then switch that one out.

Well, my motorhome has a lot of food in it, and another member suggested I get a bunch of freeze dried food, which I'm going to look into ASAP. I have 80 gallons of fresh water on-board, as well as a 5 kW genset. The gas tank on the RV is full, as are the cars. I have a lot (!) of defensive capability on-board as well. I also have my "Hospital in a Box" from pre-Y2K days. All things considered, I'm not too bad off. And unlike so many, in 30 minutes I can be mobile and getting outta Dodge. Several folks have PM'd me their contact data o when TSHTF, I might have a place to go. Since I'm handy with firearms, and know my way around tools, I can bring something to the table. (I also have a Class A CDL, and can basically drive anything with wheels after a brief familiarization period)

Our best action IMO, is to link up NOW with like-minded people, either IRL in our respective areas, or via the MAGs. It will be impossible to survive IMO unless we band together into Postman-like communities.

JMHO - YMMV

I just ordered propane and it should come today. I am not panicking. These are things I would do normally.

No need at all to panic. Like the other signs, the current one should be considered as a personal motivator if one has tasks as yet incomplete.

I plan to clean out the basement and get it organized better. Of course, I had planned to do that anyway before this topic came up. Prepping is something we do all the time instead of for an event. I can tell you what I won't do. I won't buy any long term type foods. I only stock what we normally eat.

We live in an RV like Dennis does. Topped off the water holding tank was about all we had to do. Gas & propane are full and we're using electric for everything so those tanks stay that way. I organize the food as I add to it. We have a 'full' basement in this thing so theres plenty of room. We do tsunami drills to see how long it would take to pack up & get outta dodge, we're down to 10 mins. tops. But since we live in small town USA and for the most part ppl. in this town ARE preppers I don't see us having to move unless the ocean goes kerflooey. Gonna add some more canned goods next week just to have a little more.

Doing some major revamping of the budget to free up some $$ to plug 2 holes in the major preps. Based on the OP I figure I have a few months and will get'er done within that time frame.

It's weird. Last night I immediately went into the "got to get to Sam's" frame of mind but when I got up, I had trouble figuring out why I had to get to Sam's.

As there were no specific, verifiable details available to base a thoughtful analysis upon I will take no additional steps to prepare. I will continue to prep as best I can based upon the information I have at hand. Should available information beyond "because I said so" develop I will re-assess.

We use Shelf Reliance / Thrive freeze dried, even in our everyday cooking and it tastes good. We stocked up on the meats especially, knowing that at some point, those are going to be hard to find. So we have DH diced chicken for chicken salad and soups/stews, roast beef and chopped beef for tacos, chilli, pasta, etc. We also loaded up on beans of all sorts so we can make pasta fagioli.

We tried to vary as much as possible so that we dont get bored of meals, without also having to buy tons of DH food. So with those, and the fruits and veggies, we are able to put together lots of soups, stews, casseroles and pasta dishes.

Then we just fill in with canned food and regular store bought.

As for prepping, I just bought another order of Freeze Dried from Thrive, and also purchased some backup sewing supplies (plus some fabric for two quilts I am working on). I also went ahead with Christmas money and bought a lap quilt frame, if at some point I am no longer able to use the machine due to power out, I can hand quilt, and it will also be a way to pass the time.

This week we need to stock up on some dog food. Though my pups are very tiny, they can eat scraps and be full, I still would want to stock up more on dry and canned more than we have.

Going to take Dennis' advice and hook up with a MAG.

Paid the property tax this morning so now I can make a Sam's run for more TP and a couple more items. Also ordered two Berkey water filters to make my own system out of buckets.

Folks you can survive and maintain health with that above list and never need to cook.

Also, more toothpaste, floss and brushes...........need your teeth for survival if you got them.

And.....lots of matches...........

I made a run to Walmart to add to my toiletry supplies. Reconfirmed my way out of Vegas if TSHTF right here I need the least traveled route to get out of town. Contacted a local TB member to make lans to meet up. Will be adding to my H2O supplies as well. It really depends on if we need to shelter in place or make a run for it.

This weekend will be spent organizing pantry, catching up laundry, cleaning, taking down Christmas items, etc

Dennis, in the evil wal-store you can find Mountain House meals in the foil pouch from 4.88 to about 6.00 each. they don't have much of a selection but what they do have tastes good. Costco also has a brand in the foil pouches but I haven't tried those myself. Another suggestion would be to get some pvc pipe just round enough to put a canned good into and about 6' long. cement one end up and then drop your canned goods inside. Seal up the other end and then mount on the underside of your coach. I bet you could get 5 or 6 of those without taking up any useable space. (Also could fill with dog food?) Would not do long term due to heat but we aren't talking too long now anyways.

cheers.

What we're doing isn't a response to that thread, as what we're doing has been in motion for a few weeks, but that sure was the icing on the proverbial cake for what we're doing.

I like the pipe idea. Not because I think it is cost effective or efficient storage but should TS REALLY HTF most people wouldn't look under an RV for supplies.

Probably could make it more efficient and cost effective by using larger diameter pipe to hold an array of three cans in a triangle shape all stacked in there end-to-end. And you could pack in loose ammo in the empty spaces if you really wanted to maximize the space. Still ought to be able to conceal it fairly well up under a big honkin' RV without it being visible from the outside.

Good idea either way, though.

:)

Very good point Dennis. I was under the impression you were out of town and wanted to stock up now. My wife works for Wal-store. Our livelihoods are DIRECTLY linked to how well our stores do. However, we do not shop there. The quality, freshness, service, durability, privacy, well, just about everything I can think of, is better from your advertisers and other mail-order and local stores.

The prices are not really a factor as they are all really close to each other (for the major brands at least) selection is now the factor I look at when I shop. Go to Wal-store and look at the ketchup selection, the isle is about 6 feet wide and they have 3 brands to choose from. Now go to your local market and you will see 6 or 8.

I have bought from 1 advertiser to this site and several more from other advertisers on other sites. I ALWAYS got 100% service and very quick shipping. Like you said they are us, besides, I don't have to put on my concealed carry rig to shop with them.:spns:

Same old, same old. End of the year beginning of the next is a major organization and rotation period for us personally and in our business. Was using time wisely here at our BOL to refine my "lists" and do some other things that I've been putting on the back burner due to business time constraints have been reprioritized but left flexible. Real life continues to happen while we prep so the only thing we can do is continue going in the direction we mean to go.

The thread caused me to move my timetables forward.

For 3 months I have been doing a lot of stuff and planned to keep at it using that pace.

That thread along with lots of other threads and news and what not caused me to decide to just kick it up a notch instead of always wondering if I should kick it up a notch.

And going up a notch gets a lot done in a month's time. It is not like I am at a full sprint or anything though.

Just looking at the last 3 months has seen a whole lot of stuff done and goals accomplished.

I have two plans. Plan “A” is shelter in place. But we live in a big city so if things get sideways we may have to switch to plan B. Plan “B” is bugging out to 1 of 3 BOL’s. But my BOL’s are some considerable distance away. With the closest (least desirable) about 125 miles away and the farthest (most ideal) at 250 miles away. So I’m stuck in that catch 22. If I bug in to long the roads will be too choked to bug out and we’ll end up having to hike it. Not a good position to be in. I think for right now I’m going to fortify my house a little better and think through my defense plans looking for any gaps.
