House Smells Like It's Burning

I don't know if I'm in the right SIG or not but will run this up the flag pole here.

I just turned on my central heat for the first time this year. It's been cold but I wanted to conserve electricity and just wore my jacket and used a plug in space heater but it is really cold inside today.

Anyway, after I turned the central heat on the house started to smell like something is burning or on fire.

I think I remember this happening last year but am not sure.

Is it just burning dust and such thus making the smell and it will wear off or do I need to worry.

Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Okay, I do believe I need a quick answer to this one so am going to call the fire department and ask them my question.

Thank you for your help anyway.

Well, it's normal. The coils are heating up and burning dirt and dust thus causing the odor. It will wear off before the day is over.
Thank you all anyway. :)

OH well, you had your excitement for the day, Maiden. Nothing like hot dust when you turn on a heater that's been unused for a while. Better to be safe than sorry, though. :D

Yep, Hamilton Felix, I was getting ready to run all my animals out of the house into the yard, get important papers and medications and watch Atlanta burn. Not so exciting thank goodness. ;)

Maiden, betcha will remember this next year. Nothing like a good scare to burn something into you memory. No pun intended.
