This is so bad it's too awful to post the text. Los Angeles elementary school teacher.

How how how could this go on for years without a child reporting it? ??????????

When I first heard this, I was SURE it was some concocted story by ticked-off prepubescents or adolescents mad at a teacher who wouldn't take their guff.

Then I heard there were pictures.

I still, though, wonder how this COULD have "gone on for 30 years" without one single child EVER mentioning it to anyone--not parents, not friends, not anyone?

One single child under sexual abuse, yes--but a whole classroom full?

Still, they say there are pictures.........

I don't know whether to say "something smells here" or "Lord what are we coming to?"

Maybe both.

Years and years of voluminous pictures. It was an outside photo tech who reported it! DNA evidence is abundant. Perv perp constantly did it to his public school children. Blindfolded and gagged them. Jacked off in front of the classroom. Force fed it with a spoon. And some parents are complaining that he was ousted because "they liked him." Uh .....

Apparently students DID report it and were told not to make things up.

I would have smacked him hard right then and there and smashed his windows immediately and of course told everybody with vehemence. But then again I am autistic and was always being expelled from school for speaking the truth. Hard to imagine a person not fighting back and telling instantly.

and you are reading this shit why?

good grief, can you not see the sickness that pervades your Soul to even study this? No, I just read the headline, and read no further. Read Cicero, or even the planting news. Sick shit breeds sick shit. Wallow in shit you become shit.

Anne Rice is coming out with a new werewolf book in 2 weeks so I'm watching her Facebook page, and this is a hot current topic. Yes it's sick and it has over 500 replies but I think it is very indicative of the times we are in, where authority figures have so sheepled children in public schools that a total pervert gets away with this for decades.

I have been reading threads here with horror for years about over the top public school "discipline" against students for trivial matters and this is the result. Real crime breezes by while a 4 year old is dragged off to jail for saying a girl is "cute."

Based on information in local TV and newspaper reporting, the "teacher" convinced the kids they were playing games, and the student population was/is primarily low income with English not their first/primary language. He really took advantage of those students.

Yes, this is what I am hearing here locally too. And, apparently, this guy didn't live all that far from where I am right now.

If I were one of the parents of his victims, I'd have a hard time not employing some frontier justice on that piece of...

He has a $23 million dollar bail which means he isn't coming out soon. I know that scum like him are not treated well behind bars.

This makes me sick especially that the kids who DID say something were told to quit making things up. When my oldest was in the 4th grade she was molested. The cop who took the initial report believed her. The investigator believed her. But the DA felt there was not enough evidence to prosecute.

The guy is still teaching and when I read this article I had to see his name to make sure it wasn't the same guy. It's a very long story but I got the information out at a PTA meeting and was threatened with a lawsuit. We ended up moving away to get out of that school district, out of that city, out of that state.

If you have - or care about - children, please read: "Protecting the Gift" by Gavin de Becker________________

I have a six year old son in first grade. Next year after we move, we're homeschooling, but for now he's in public school. His teacher is a lovely lady but I could envision this:
________________

If he came home and said, "Our teacher gave us cookies with 'special frosting' on them and it tasted gross!"

I'd have said, "Aww, honey, he must be a bad cook. Just say you're not hungry next time."
________________

If he came home and said, "In Health, we're studying the five senses and our teacher blindfolded us and made us guess what we were tasting. Some of it was gross!"

I might have thought it was weird but again, wouldn't have reported it.
_______________

I can see why it never went reported. People want to believe that their kids are safe, and are happy to stay in denial.

I hope this piece of crap winds up in the big house and pays dearly. Even hardened criminals aren't keen on guys like him.

Ya' know, it used to be that you never saw men teaching lower grades. The only male teachers were junior high and up.

Maybe there was a reason for that.

lIt's still hard to believe this happened in front of classroom after classroom regularly, even socioeconomically deprived children. At least the photo tech reported it. And you'd think some child would have recognized the smell from having been around it in their small crowded house (poverty assumption)? Having too many demented male patients over decades, I know the smell and think it's rather strong and unique enough to recognize. Maybe just another autism sensory thing. But decades?

I hope some instruction comes of this. "Do not let yourself be blindfolded, even if by a teacher, or ever let anybody else ask you to taste something 'mysterious' or put something in your mouth." Both seem an invasion of a person's space, privacy and dignity.

Bluetick and Mike, I don't watch TV and have not looked up any news video about this so thx for the local take. One more reinforcement of my opinion that only homeschooling is a viable option.

Is there anybody on TB that would actually allow themselves to be blindfolded and have something unidentified put in his mouth?

If I had had a child I'd be a nervous wreck. I'd listen to what they were saying and investigate everything. I follow every whine and bark of my dog. News like this just illustrates how totally different my mindset is, of course molded a bit by years of reading TB, LOL

Just cannot imagine nobody taught their child about personal space and not allowing anybody to violate their rights. Even in school where apparently there is no personhood or rights. Homeschool.

Unfortunately, they take advantage of the trust parents give to people in authority and transfer onto their children. Only "bad kids" resist doing what the teacher tells them to do. And to a small child, being sent to the principal's office is the worst thing imaginable, so...better go with the flow.

People like this are, in part, what Armageddon is for. When the purge of the wicked comes, pedophiles are on the list of endangered species. There's no possibility of escaping, save one: repentance (which by definition includes never repeating the offense again).

bbkaren, bingo, you answered my question. It IS an autism thing, my perplexion. No recognition of authority, no social "worst thing imaginable," no desire to go with the flow, only know and live by the truth. It's a totally social thing.

So kids have to be taught to recognize when social pressures jeopardize their wellbeing and safety. Maybe discussions about the pitfalls of groupthink would help.

Even with all the bullying, criticism, cruelty, and shunning autistics go through, I think they're better off than neurotypicals. This convinces me. The ability to think without being swayed by social memes seems to be a survival mechanism.

Taking pics of blindfolded, gagged children is a way to show candids to parents and suggest that unless someone supplements his salary, that they will be blamed as co traffickers in kiddie porn. Blackmail bait. Esp. if used against emigre Latinos who may be easily intimidated or fear of being turned into INS. Glad parents stood up. Shocked this fool never heard of McMartin?

This story is REALLY blowing up today...

Not only has a second teacher at the same school been arrested but an administrator is also being investigated.

Another story of a music teacher at another LAUSD school having sex with his students is also breaking...

Official: 2nd teacher from LA school arrested

By ROBERT JABLON, Associated Press – 30 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A second teacher pulled from a classroom at Miramonte Elementary School this week was arrested Friday, just days after a third-grade teacher was charged with lewd acts involving photographing nearly two dozen children for sexual thrills, authorities said.

In a related development, a lawyer on Friday filed a claim against the Los Angeles Unified School District stating that he intended to file a lawsuit on behalf of an unidentified girl who ate a sugar cookie laced with the semen of the first teacher arrested, Mark Berndt.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore confirmed the second arrest but would not immediately release any further details on the exact allegation.

The second teacher, who has not been identified, was removed after accusations of inappropriate touching of students surfaced on Thursday, Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent John Deasy said.

"We are prepared to fire him next week and we'll do that at the next board meeting for inappropriate conduct and inappropriately touching students," the superintendent told KTTV.

Deasy said the district has seen an increase in the number of complaints of teacher molestation since news of Berndt's arrest broke, but he provided no figures.

Child-abuse investigators were informed by the district late Thursday night, sheriff's Lt. Carlos Marquez said, declining to provide details.

Earlier this week, third-grade teacher Mark Berndt, who worked at the school for 30 years, was charged with committing lewd acts on 23 children, ages 6 to 10, between 2005 and 2010. He remains jailed on $23 million bail and could face life in prison if convicted.

Deasy said the allegations had not been previously reported to the district.

Beverly Hills lawyer Raymond Boucher, whose Beverly Hills firm specializes in sexual abuse lawsuits against school districts, religious institutions and hospitals, said the legal claim of behalf of "Jane Doe 1" charges that the district did not take adequate steps to prevent Berndt from repeatedly abusing children after they received complaints about him.

School was in session Friday at Miramonte. After news broke about the second teacher, several parents took their children out of school.

Ida Santana said her sister called her and told her to pick up her nephew.

"It's hard to leave our kids here," Santana said. "We can't trust the teachers no more. Now there's another teacher."

Several other parents could be seen walking youngsters away from the school.

Santana said the family is unsure where the boy will be going to school from now on.

The development involving the second teacher was made public a day after authorities acknowledged that 18 years ago a 10-year-old girl claimed Berndt tried to fondle her.

Prosecutors declined to file to charges against Berndt in the 1993 report, saying they didn't have enough evidence.

The details of that case and other claims by two former students about strange behavior by Berndt surfaced just three days after his arrest.

The allegations also raised further questions about why he wasn't disciplined by school officials, who have been lambasted by some parents for waiting a year to reveal Berndt was suspected of taking bondage-style photographs of children in his class.

Only parents of children identified as victims were told by authorities about the most recent investigation.

School officials and investigators said proper procedures were followed to investigate and build a case against the teacher.

The incident involving the 10-year-old girl occurred in September 1993 but wasn't reported by her mother to officials at Miramonte until the following January, after her daughter had seen an "Oprah" show about inappropriate touching, sheriff's Sgt. Dan Scott said Thursday.

The girl claimed Berndt reached toward her genitals during class and she pushed his hand away, Scott said.

School officials notified the Sheriff's Department, which submitted evidence to prosecutors. They opted not to file a charge of committing a lewd act on a minor under the age of 14. Berndt was never arrested.

"Based on what I read, it was a thorough and complete investigation," said Scott, who noted the investigator who handled the case has retired.

Sandi Gibbons, a district attorney spokeswoman, said in a statement the case was rejected because there was insufficient evidence to prove a crime had occurred.

Berndt denied the allegation at the time.

Earlier, two women who said they were former students of Berndt told the Los Angeles Times that complaints were made about his odd behavior as far back as 1990.

Using a cheap camera, Berndt is suspected of snapping nearly 400 photographs of Miramonte students, some with a giant Madagascar cockroach from a classroom terrarium on their faces.

Others were blindfolded or had clear tape over their mouths, and some were given sperm-laced cookies to eat as treats in the photo sessions that were treated like games, Scott said.

Some of Berndt's students defended him, saying he was a kind and generous teacher.

Angelica Zuniga, a 16-year-old high school junior, was in third grade in 2003 when she had Berndt as a teacher. She said he never asked her or others to do anything strange or to play any inappropriate games.

"They're calling him 'monster.' He's just not that kind of person," Angelica said. "He was one of the most amazing teachers out there. He's dedicated his life to us, and I want to stick up for him."

The latest investigation of Berndt began last fall when a film processor became suspicious about the photographs and turned them over to Redondo Beach police, who on Dec. 2 handed them over to the sheriff's department, Scott said.

Berndt, who taught at Miramonte for more than 30 years ago, was removed from classwork in January and fired within the month.

The case also prompted Deasy to fire a high school teacher who is being sued over allegations he had sex with students. The Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/w40AxM) reported Friday that Vance Miller, 59, was pulled from his Hamilton High School classroom in 2010, before Deasy became superintendent.

A police investigation didn't result in criminal charges. But two former students, now adults, said the music teacher had sex with them while they were students at Hamilton. Deasy reviewed the case this week and decided there was enough information to fire Miller, who has been paid since his removal.

Everybody out!

CNN carrying this amazing update: Everyone, all the staff, are being removed from the school!

http://www.cnn.com/2012/02/06/justice/california-teacher-bondage-photos/?hpt=hp_t1

(CNN) -- The entire staff of a Los Angeles elementary school where two teachers were arrested last week for lewd acts involving pupils will be replaced when the students return to class, the school district's superintendent said.

Los Angeles School District Superintendent John Deasy made the announcement during a Monday evening meeting at South Region High School #2, parents told CNN.
Deasy said everyone from the custodians to teachers at Miramonte Elementary School -- who are not being fired and are expected, after undergoing special training, to later resume work at another location -- are being removed because school administrators do not want any more surprises.

These staff members, as well as all the Los Angeles school's students, will be questioned as part of the ongoing criminal investigation, the superintendent said.

All the new staff members have been hired and trained, the superintendent said. Social workers have also been hired, ready to work with teachers and parents.

The announcement came Monday evening during a meeting in the high school's packed auditorium. The facility filled up so quickly that about 200 angry, befuddled parents were not allowed in.

Instead, those outside chanted "We want justice."

"I can't understand how things like that happened," said Bessy Garcia, adding that two of her children were among one of the teacher's alleged victims. "Now our life has changed. We feel completely destroyed."

She described how she and her two children were having troubled sleeping, eating and functioning as they wrestled with the emotional roller coaster of the past week -- a sentiment echoed by other parents as well.

"It's been like hell," said another parent, Claudia Riveras. "We're just trying to get some answers."

Last Tuesday, teacher Mark Berndt, 61, was arrested and accused of taking bondage photos -- some showing suspected semen-filled spoons at the children's mouths, authorities said.

The investigation into Berndt began in October 2010, when a CVS drugstore photo technician in Los Angeles County's South Bay area told the Redondo Police Department about finding the images of blindfolded children in a processing order, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Dan Scott said.

The case was turned over to the sheriff's office, and after an initial investigation, investigators notified school authorities, who removed Berndt from his classroom in January 2011.

On Friday, a second teacher -- Martin Bernard Springer, 49 -- was arrested for allegedly fondling two young girls in the classroom.

Capt. Mike Parker of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said Springer's arrest is "quite different" from Berndt's.

On Sunday, school district spokesman Tom Waldman said that Miramonte would be closed Tuesday and Wednesday "to take a break." He referred to these as "pupil-free" days, and did not say whether staffers will be in the building.

The school was open Monday, though many students were kept away by parents who were participating in a morning rally.

"We're saying enough is enough," community leader Morris Grifton said at that demonstration. "We want cameras in the classrooms, in the hallways and around the school."

Someone asked why we're reading. I thought maybe it was some insane teacher with a weird experiment using animal semen or something, and wondered why some parent or big brother hadn't broken both his legs. This freak is a pedophile, and the system and school district didn't believe the victims. He's probably been reported numerous times and probably no telling how many children started to act up after their abuse only to be put on ritalin at the next teachers' insistence. Hopefully the pervert didn't pass on diseases and hope he has fun in the pen.

Want to bet other teachers and staff were afraid of being fired or disciplined if they had reported anything?

Abuse is what public schools are all about even especially when they work as intended.

The entire model is bound to attract the worst in humans, and it does.

The reasoning just gets more peculiar. Seems there's more to the story than is being publicly reported. Now there will be a psychiatric social worker in every classroom.

Staff removed at LA school during abuse probe

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The entire staff at a Los Angeles elementary school is being removed while authorities investigate horrific allegations of sexual abuse by two of the school's teachers, one of whom is accused of blindfolding children, taping their mouths and photographing them in a classroom.

Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent John Deasy said Monday night that more than 120 staff members at Miramonte Elementary School — everyone from the principal and teachers to the cafeteria workers — were being replaced because a full investigation of the allegations will be disruptive and staffers will require support to get through the scandal.

"We intend to interview every adult, every adult who works at that school, whether they are a teacher or administrator, or whether they are an after-school playground worker or a custodian or a secretary. I mean every single solitary adult who works at Miramonte," Deasy said to parents who packed a high school gymnasium.

An entire staff has been selected to come into Miramonte's classrooms to take over teaching for the time being, and there will be a psychiatric social worker in every classroom to help students and staff cope with any issues.

The teachers and support staff will remain officially attached to Miramonte even though they are indefinitely being transferred, district spokeswoman Monica Carazo said Tuesday.

"He (Deasy) will decide if and when to return them back to the Miramonte school. So nothing is definite at this time," she said.

Deasy said the employees, which include nearly 90 teachers, will remain out of the school at least until August, when Miramonte changes from a year-round system to a regular summer-vacation schedule. When classes resume, there will be fewer teachers and fewer students because some will be transferred to new schools that are opening.

Deasy announced Monday that an investigation of the allegations will include interviewing former as well as current Miramonte students. The probe will be handled by an independent commission led by retired California Supreme Court Chief Justice Carlos Moreno.

All employees will be paid during the investigation, district spokesman Tom Waldman said. Officials didn't know how long the investigation would take.

"The last thing I'm worried about is a budget issue," Deasy said. "The No. 1 thing I'm worried about is the students."

School officials canceled classes on Tuesday and Wednesday as a cooling-off and transition period, Waldman said. All current staff members will report to another location, where they will be interviewed, he said. The new staff will report on Thursday.

Deasy emphasized that all new staff members being brought into the classroom went through a "very rigorous screening process."

He added Miramonte staff members are having a difficult time understanding this situation.

"I'm mostly overwhelmed by how grieved they are, how upset they are, how broken their own personal trust is. In many ways, they are victimized too," Deasy said. "They taught in this school for years and assumed everyone else was doing good things."

United Teachers Los Angeles said in a statement that union leaders and staff have met with instructors at Miramonte.

"We support a thorough, vigorous and fair investigation of all allegations," the statement said. "It's everyone's responsibility to ensure that any and all allegations are thoughtfully and carefully investigated."

Miramonte parents were happy to hear the news first from the superintendent. They have complained bitterly that they weren't informed about the yearlong investigation. Many heard the sordid details on news reports or from the TV crews camped out at the school's entrance.

School officials said they deferred to sheriff's detectives, who asked them not to divulge details that might affect their investigation.

Maria Jimenez, 51, said the parents are divided over the decision to remove the school's 88 teachers and 40 other staff members.

"Some are in favor. Others are against it because they did this without advising us or consulting us," she said.

The decision follows the arrest of two longtime Miramonte teachers: Mark Berndt and Martin Springer.

Berndt, 61, was charged last week with committing lewd acts on 23 children, ages 6 to 10, between 2005 and 2010. The acts cited by authorities include blindfolding children and feeding them his semen in his classroom, in what children were allegedly told was a tasting game.

Berndt, who worked at the school for 32 years, remains jailed on $23 million bail and could face life in prison if convicted.

Springer, 49, was arrested Friday on suspicion of fondling two girls in his classroom. He was being held on $2 million bail.

Springer taught at Miramonte for his entire career, which started in 1986, the district said. He taught second grade. The school board is scheduled to discuss firing him in a closed-door meeting Tuesday.

Investigators said they know of no connection between the Miramonte cases. Berndt and Springer know each other and took their classes on at least two joint field trips in the past decade, according to the Los Angeles Times.

More than a quarter of the students at Miramonte were absent from school Monday while parents demanded more protection at the school, with attendance reaching just 72 percent, according to figures from the Los Angeles Unified School District.

About three dozen parents and supporters protested in front of the main doors of the school earlier Monday, some carrying a banner that read, "We the parents demand our children be protected from lewd teacher acts."

As night fell, about 100 angry parents marched from the elementary school to the nearby meeting with administrators.

School police watched and sheriff's deputies were on hand, but there was no violence.
The district set up a toll-free hotline on Monday to receive reports of suspected abuse at Miramonte, said school board President Monica Garcia in a statement.

Garcia added that the district would step up efforts to ensure students and staff realized the importance of reporting misconduct.

In the same school district, a janitor at a San Fernando Valley elementary school was arrested on suspicion of committing a lewd act with a child on a campus.

Paul Adame, 37, was taken into custody after a mother told police on Sunday that he had inappropriate contact with her child during school hours Friday at Germain Elementary School in the Chatsworth area north of Los Angeles, police Capt. Kris Pitcher said at a news conference.

The captain declined to provide details but urged anyone who might know of other possible victims to contact police.

Adame was booked and released on $100,000 bail Monday. It could not be immediately determined if he had an attorney.

There was no immediate connection between the arrest of the janitor and the cases at Miramonte, which is 15 miles away in an unincorporated county area of South Los Angeles.
