Herbal liniment
Cover herbs with vodka for internal/external use. Leave for two or more weeks and then strain out the herb and bottle the liquid. This formula may be made like a medicated oil and then used as a massaging oil for aches and pains.

In a nut shell...Tinctures and Liniments are made in the same fashion.

For disinfecting wounds and cuts, bruises and sores or aching muscles
4 parts coptis or golden seal powder or cut and sifted (small pieces).
4 parts echinacea powder or cut and sifted
4 parts usnea or myrrh powder
1 part cayenne powder.

For poison oak liniment:
Mugwort, mansanita, comfrey, chickweed, golden seal, plantain, white oak bark, yellow dock. Mix equal parts and cover with vodka.

Injuries and strained muscles:
6 parts angelica root
6 parts comfrey root
4 parts cinnamon bark
4 parts valerian root
3 parts hyssop leaves
3 parts calendula flowers
1 part ginger root
Again make as alcohol tincture

Oil Liniment
1/3 cup castor oil
1/3 cup infused Saint Johns oil, 1/2 cup corydalis oil. You can then add essential oils to boost formula like ginger, camphor, peppermint, wintergreen, eucalyptus.

For those who are still confused as to a liniment and alcohol tincture. Liniments are alcohol tinctures but when used topically and externally they are called liniments. They are one in the same. If used internally they are called tinctures. Much confusion but very simple.

Herbmountain, thanks for posting the recipes. Always makes me feel better when I know one of our own herbalists has tried them. You know you can always post some more of your recipes...It wouldn't bother me in the least.

Herbal Calcium Tincture

1 part Red Clover
1 part horsetail AKA shavegrass
2 parts oat straw
1 part chamomile
1 part nettles

Fill jar or bottle 3/4 full. Do not pack herbs. Cover with 80 proof vodka. Infuse for 6 weeks shaking daily. Keep the jar in a dark cabinet. When infused, remove or strain herbs out of liquid and store in a bottle with a dropper. Use 2 dropper fulls a day.

The nettle is also good to boost the immune system and provides a small amount of iron for those needing iron.

All these herbs contain calcium (silica) for bone strength. I make 32 ounces at a time.

Chamomile is very calming. This is why the recipe is called "Calming Calcium Tea".

Red Clover is very cleansing for the liver and blood and also contains some calcium.

Enjoy!

Gateway. It is actually an alcohol tincture recipe. You can make a tea but with out the alcohol. It is yummy. I drink this tea every night as it tastes so good and it calms me for sleep. Enjoy
