Herbal Guggul

Among herbalists there is some support for guggul as a supportive treatment for the thyroid (among other uses). Anyone have experience with using this? I bought a tincture and the seller won't share any info about it. With a tincture it could be weak or strong. I don't know how long he extracted it. Just looking for more info if anyone here has used it or made a tincture.

At an appointment right now, but I'll look ot up when I get home. Time tinctured is a little misleading and that varies with the method used. Are there any numbers on the bottle? It would appear as a ratio, for instance 1:5.

No. He has not responded with the method used. I assumed that info would be shipped with item. Never assume.

Guggal cannot be percolated as far as I know. Most thick, sticky, or resinous herbs can't. It should be mixed in 95% alcohol in a 1:5 ratio (1 part guggal, 5 parts alcohol). Most herbs like this, I would run thru my blender (more surface area on the herb allows for quicker tincturing), but I've never done guggal. If I needed it sooner rather than later, I probably would still blender it. Otherwise, I would mix and let set somewhere cool and dark for at least 6 weeks, shaking a couple times a week. Then strain and use.

I'm sure you already know this, but if you put the tincture in water, it will probably (or at least should) precipitate out due to the herb.

Thank you Moldy. I did order some to try my hand at making my own tincture. I'm getting desperate to feel better.
