CYPRESS, Texas (outside Houston, TX)-- A massive house party advertised on Twitter turned violent when two teenagers were shot to death and 19 others were injured late Saturday in northwest Harris County, deputies said.

According to Harris County Sheriff's Office, the mass shooting happened just before 11 p.m. at a birthday party for 18-year-old Mariah Boulden in the 7300 block of Enchanted Creek Drive.

Sheriff Adrian Garcia described the scene from Saturday night as a “birthday party gone wild.”

More than 100 people, mostly high school students, were at the scene when the gunfire started and many fled the home in a panicked rush to escape. Garcia said the first shot was a celebratory one inside the house and was not directed at anyone in particular.

Two Cypress Springs High School students, 18-year-old male and 16-year-old female, were killed, while 19 others were injured during the shooting, Garcia said. The female teen died at the scene, while the male died at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital.

Garcia did not release the names of the two victims that died Saturday night.

Eighteen of those who were injured suffered gunshot wounds, some minor. Another victim suffered a broken leg, deputies said. Five area hospitals received the injured, some of whom were transported by emergency vehicles and others in their own vehicles.

A hospital official said two of the victims were being treated at Memorial Hermann Hospital. One is in critical condition and the other is in fair condition.

Deputies are searching for two suspects, both male, ages 17 and 22, in connection with the shooting.

No firearms were recovered at the scene, but several bullet casings were found, the sheriff said. He said there may have been up to 10 shots fired.

Garcia said that there was no evidence that alcohol or narcotics were a factor in the shooting.

“Any promotion on social media has the opportunity for mixed results…Good results, bad results,” Garcia said. He added that promoting a party using social media says, “I don’t know who you are but you are invited.”

The Cy-Fair Independent School District said they would have crisis management teams, counselors and additional security at campuses affected by the shooting.

“We are saddened to learn of the tragic shooting that occurred in a neighborhood close to one of our schools last night,” the district said in a statement released Sunday afternoon. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families that have been impacted by this tragedy.”

"Partygoer Shaniqua Brown told The Associated Press it "was not rowdy at all." She said she first heard gunshots in the house, and they continued outside as people fled and sought cover."
