Get Woke, Go Broke: Planet Fitness Stock Craters, Gym Chain Sees $400 Million Wiped Out After Transgender Bathroom Uproar

Planet Fitness continued to get pummeled a week after popular social media personality ‘Libs of TikTok’ reported the gym chain was allowing biological men into women’s bathroom facilities.

People began to cancel their Planet Fitness memberships after an Alaskan woman’s membership was revoked for taking a photo of a transgender (biological man) shaving in a women’s bathroom.

“A Planet Fitness Insider has even reached out and told me there is internal panic at the company and mass membership cancellations,” Libs of TikTok creator Chaya Raichik said.
Less than a week later Planet Fitness saw more than $400 million wiped out.

told Fox News, their gym is a “judgement-free zone.”
“As the home of the Judgement Free Zone, Planet Fitness is committed to creating an inclusive environment,” Planet Fitness chief corporate affairs officer McCall Gosselin told Fox News about its gender policy.

“Our gender identity non-discrimination policy, states that members and guests may use the gym facilities that best align with their sincere, self-reported gender identity. The member who posted on social media violated our mobile device policy that prohibits taking photos of individuals in the locker room, which resulted in their membership being terminated.”
Fox Business reported:
Planet Fitness critics are saying “go woke, go broke,” calling on the top fitness chain to receive the “Bud Light” treatment after an uproar over its transgender locker room policy created a social media stir.
The chain saw a $400 million dive in valuation from $5.3 billion to $4.9 billion just days after revoking an Alaska woman’s membership for snapping photos of a transgender woman, who was biologically male, shaving in the women’s locker room, according to a Daily Mail report.

Planet Fitness locations have what they call a lunk alarm that is supposed to go off if members are grunting, screaming or dropping weights. I figured it was a gimmick as I never saw one go off when I was there. There is even a blue alarm light on the wall. Their whole concept is stupid and it attracts the least fit and knowledgeable to their club. It was, however, the least expensive gym in the area. Ten bucks a month if you don’t do the tanning beds.

Not trying to be snarky, but how is "grunting, screaming, and dropping weights" proof of being fit and knowledgeable?

That is hilarious! However, I look at people who scream and slam weights around with disdain anyhow. They have a "look at me" complex.

PF works just fine if you go to work out. What I appreciate is the fact that there are so many PFs around that I have no excuse when I travel. They can be ridiculously anal however. That’s why I go in and get out….

Planet Fitness member arrested after going to ladies’ locker room claiming he identified as a woman

Snejana Farberov

A Planet Fitness member in North Carolina allegedly entered a ladies’ locker room at the gym and stripped down “completely naked,” claiming that he identified as a woman, according to police and 911 callers.

Christopher Miller, 38, was arrested on a charge of indecent exposure and booked into the Gaston County jail last Thursday, with his online inmate entry identifying him as a male. His mugshot showed the suspect sporting a light-colored beard and mustache.

Miller’s arrest on a felony charge came after an alarmed woman at the Gastonia Planet Fitness called 911 to report there was a naked man in the ladies’ locker room, reported WSOC-TV.

“It’s a man but he says he identifies as a woman, and he won’t leave the restroom,” the 911 caller told an emergency dispatcher. “But he is just walking around showing us his — and he won’t leave.”

“OK, so he is completely naked?” the dispatcher asked.
“He is completely naked,” the caller said.

Sources told the outlet that Miller allegedly asked a female gym member in the locker room to lotion him up and take a shower together.

Planet Fitness allows members to use the restroom and locker room consistent with their self-reported gender identity, but there was no indication that Miller had identified himself as a transgender woman before venturing inside the ladies’ locker room.

“I think a woman should be able to go into a woman’s bathroom without a man coming in saying he’s transgender,” gymgoer Betty Brice said.

Miller was ordered held on $25,000 bond.

I'm surprised as hell the cops got thru the front door - the 911 wasn't enough to trespass on a biz property - the female caller wasn't being attacked ....

Nope! I work out in a REAL gym where no alarm goes off if you drop your weights, lol!

No offense to any member here who does work out there. And good on ya for doing the work!
I exercise there because the "real" gyms in my area want an arm and a leg to use the facilities. My goal is a 300 bench by age 60. That is 1 1/2 years and I am at 240 now. Being retired I can't afford the arm and leg dues to meet my goal. Not only that the gym is well equipped. I couldn't care less about their politics.

And this is why I have a home gym, because I’d never live up to other peoples idea of what is considered physically fit. Plus I find sweaty gym equipment to be gross.

Companies like this have a very hard time recovering from such a loss and may very well be looking at filing chapter 11.

I hope not...............its a free workout place for me................

I could tell they are all about selling memeberships and hoping nobody shows up...................capacity of most clubs is 350 and the goal is to have 10K members a club...................

They roped in the corporate insurance plan con game into their marketing scam/plan that a gym membership lowers cost to employees insurance premiums even if the person never steps into the place............

There are other factors in play now as well. Gym memberships are the first thing to get dropped when the economy is tough....long before the 500 TV station package, expensive cell phones and $1000/month car payments are history.

So happy my brother and his wife are out of the business. They owned two gyms, lost six figures when they sold after the buyers (family members no less!) tanked the businesses and welshed out on payment. But.....at least they are off the hook for it all in a deeply worsening economy when people are well into dumping "frills".

Sorry for getting a bit off topic but this always grossed me out too. There were people who would do like an hour of cardio and be totally dripping with sweat and then go to do weights getting their gross sweat all over the weight benches and machines. They needed to do weights first then cardio and then hit the showers.
