FYI...Grandpappy's site on homemade bows

Just wanted y'all to know, I just finished making and testing a bow I made by following the info on Grandpappy's website. It is not fancy, nor is it as perfect as I could have done. But I just wasn't going to put out maxium effort until I knew how it would work. Well, I can tell you, it is very good info. My bow is not as long as his and I put the handgrip on before I cured the wood. Still it shoots a very good distance of about 150 feet. Yeah I know, I really didn't need to validate his work; but it is good to have anyway.

As I said, just a little bit of FYI, so Mods you can move this to "Fieldcraft..." whenever. I'd like it to stay on the main page for a while so everybody can have a chance to read it, however.

Btw, my arms aren't as strong as they used to be, and my wrist bent wrong. I now have a bruise 1inch wide and two inches long on the inside of my lower arm. And it hurts! I'd definately suggest you get one of those arm protectors if you plan on shooting a bow...even if only twice to four times.

Thank you for this information. I was recently thinking about this, and the crossbows as a handy backup if there was some kind pf problem with regular hardware. :) Not only can they come in handy in a pinch for obtaining food, but they're quiet, which in certain scenarios could be paramount to one's survival.

I used to make up something like the Quick bow when I was a kid and went camping in the woods of the White Mountains (NH) Fun, and effective. Shooting fish in the stream was pretty hard though and took some practice.
