Ya see, I AM the guy who sits in his house during a storm, rather than go to a shelter. Why, you ask? Because trees can fall on shelters as easily as homes. But at least if one falls on my home, and I'm here, I can do something about it rather than come home to a flooded house. Ask me how I know. If offense was taken, I apologize. But I have sat in the garage during a hurricane and watched the wind bend the trees. A most amazing sight.

Gotcha. I was thinking specifically of the hurricane parties some Floridians like to have. That’s what they were doing when Andrew came through! :D

It’s “poking.”

And a house isn’t underground. In a house, you could yell for help. Further, rescuers will go to each house and check for trapped or injured people. None of that is true in an underground shelter.

I'd worry more about the folks in Louisiana. I remember a storm back in the 60's, forget the name but a BIG storm. Some folks decided to have a 'Hurricane Party' at a place called Dauphin Island. It was reported later that nothing remained on the island. I heard there were survivors. Some kids were sent upstairs before the party. Their bed managed to float out of the house somehow.

LOL you're killing me. Your memory is as bad as mine.

You're probably right about the Hurricane and the survivors, but you missed it bad on location.

Dauphin Island is off the coast of AL, not LA. And, at least 40 years ago, all it was was an abandoned Civil War Fort, and beaches because it was so small, no homes. BTDT. We took a boat out there for a day on the beach and Dolphins escorted us out there.

What you describe sounds like the MS Gulf and Camile. And that did happen down there, then.
