I remember driving down the Katy freeway in Houston and it would be raining in sheets on me but 100 yards on either end was clear. You had to slow down to 40 or so to maintain the effect. You can drive all the way to New Orleans and barely turn the wheel. Flat, straight, scrubby desert, and boring as hell.
?? I 10 from Houston to Nawlins' is swamps and pastures. scrubby desert would be I10 way west of San Anton, I 20 way west of Ft. worth and I 30 way west of Ft. Worth.

But, ' I 10 from Houston to Nawlins'(like the way you said it, btw.), isn't really swamps, or rather when I was living down there, they weren't. They were rice patties, where Texans grew a very large part of America's rice. And just outside of Orange, Texas, to the west, were 4 or 5 refineries producing fuel for ships, if I recall correctly.

The Atchafalaya Bridge between Baton Rouge and Lafayette which carries Interstate 10 over the Atchafalaya Basin has a total length of 18 mi or 29 km), it is the 3rd longest bridge in the US, the 2nd longest on the interstate system. Yes, there are a whole bunch of rice patties/crawdad farm, but also a lot of swamps.
