Trucks Ford BOV mods F-350

Hi all, I have a free-to-me 2008 Ford F-350 with the 6.4 diesel. It is in fantastic shape, but I’m not a fan of the engine. Considering that it’s free, can anyone advise reliability mods that will keep it from blowing up? Also, maybe top 10 most important BOV/SHTF mods? I already plan to replace the fuel tank with an oversized Titan tank.

Keep the 6.4 and bullet proof it. Then go buy a old dodge truck with a mechanical cummins in it. The 6.4 is very picky when it comes to fuel, the old mechanical cummins, so long as you aren't feeding it sand, will run. They are pretty gutless though. Use the 6.4 as your daily and use the dodge to bug out. If you have good fuel, you can keep going back and forth with the ford but the cummins will survive being treated worse...longer....

Head studs are a cab-off job. Would be a good time to do other stuff with the open access.
Kill off every bit of emissions. While the cab is off, pull the injectors go ahead and replace them ahead of the fact. Might as well while you're in there. Get a good set of head gaskets while you're in there. Compression test the engine while its easy to get to. If you're wanting performance go ahead and swap the turbo, do new pipes both hot and cold side. No reason to bump the power but make it breathe easier.... Hell if the motor is in bad shape go ahead and cummins swap it while the body is off haha

If I was going to engine swap I’d prob go for a 7.3

The first thing you want to do with a 6.4 is install a disaster prevention kit. Yes, I'm serious. Read up on metal found in the fuel system and can travel throughout all vital parts without the kit.

I don't know fords.

Is this like the CP3 conversion?

Are 7.3's gaining in popularity and value? It seems like they should with the problems newer trucks experiance.
The 7.3 Ford and 5.9 Cummins still has a cult following that keeps the prices inflated. We've got one on the farm with about 50k on it and I'm tempted to pull the engine and sell it as the truck has basically fell apart around it with 400k on the body
