Food/Drink items that I have found myself short on in my preps..for flu & cold season

Angel Lady

Deceased
My husband and I both have a cold and my daughter has the flu. The one thing that I have failed to prep for is the kind of food/drink that we usually like or can tolerate when we are sick. Like chicken noodle soup, gatorade, jello. This has been a lesson that I have learned from and will be stocking these items very soon to have for times like these.

Does too have a life!
I'm sorry your household has been sick, Angel Lady.

We're covered in soup/jello/gatorade department. I find I have to keep a close eye on the Kleenex and cough drops. They mysteriously disappear when I'm not looking.

DH visited his niece in the hospital and ended up bringing some virus home with him. As a family we really blew through the elderberry tincture. I started extra batches but they take weeks to brew. I even ordered three large bottles of Sambucol and those went quickly too!

DH ended up with a very shortened sickness and DS and I never caught it. If this had infected all three of us, we would really have been hurting! I ordered more elderberries and have three quart jars brewing, soon to be more. I am also going to order more Sambucol as backup.

BTW, the family prefers the homemade elderberry tincture to the Sambucol! Go figure! They constantly complained about the taste of the tincture until they tried the Sambucol! They decided it was too sweet.

We did fine on all other preps. The lesson I learned: I need more elderberries!!! :msk:

sickness..
besides what is already mentioned..and I would assume most people already have some of the following..bleach..(dilute with and clean with it), baby wipes (for 'sponge baths'), multivitamins(if they can keep them down, make sure they take it!), depends. ( if you are alone playing nursemaid with a bunch of severely sick people, those will come in handy), and masks and the containers that squirt out the antibacterial nonsoap hand cleanser..LOTS OF THOSE.

That's all I could come up with for now.

I get the sugar-free Sambucol. Tasts like a fine wine...NO kidding! But, I run through mine pretty fast too.

Haven't made the recipe you gave me yet...been too busy to get the ingredients!

tsk, tsk...:wvflg:

Emergen-C A great alternative to Gaterade, better for you and takes up alot less room! Stopped in at local Brooks yesterday and they had boxes for 50% off.(they were 5.49 instead of $11) I got 4 more. Don't know if this is everywhere or just here.

I have a bottle of Sambucol, cause I was curious. But my elderberries are all stored in gallons of wine. Tastes great and does the job. Don't think I'll buy the bottled stuff again. We like the wine better than the tincture.
