GUNS/RLTD Everything Related to Guns is in Short Supply

It is now official. You now have LONG wait times for nearly EVERYTHING RELATED TO GUNS. This includes various items that have NEVER, REPEAT NEVER, been in short supply during my nearly 67 years of age.

The list is legion. I placed an order for a Mossberg 45 20 Gauge shotgun bandolier on October 13th. After multiple ship dates, starting around Halloween, then Thanksgiving, and now on December 15th, I may actually get it around Christmas.

Next, I also ordered, on October 14th one Uncle Mike's inner belt, and one outer belt. The story on that one is truly amazing. I ordered them from Planet Optics. The first ship date was the first of November. The next ship date was the end of November. The third ship date was December 8th. The fourth ship date was December 27th. THE FINAL SHIP DATE IS NOW JANUARY NINTH of 2021. Yep, a THREE MONTH SHIP DATE FROM OCTOBER 13TH.

I may get it mid January.

I was able to get two Winchester cleaning kits from planet optics much faster, even though they were also made in China. However, when I went online looking for cleaning patches, for both my AR-15 and my 38/Special/357 Magnum I came up dry trying to order 2 and 1/4 inch cleaning patches, and also clean patches for shotguns and the AR-15 Rifles. They had patches for 308 rifles and some odds and ends, but pretty much EVERYTHING related to common handguns, like the 9mm, the 38 Special, the 357 Magnum and the 380's are nowhere to be found. It is like a GIANT vacuum cleaner has sucked all gun related items into the ether, or else priced them like the Weimar Republic.

Brownells has a LOT of cleaning patches on backorder, and they are a prime military supplier to boot.

It is bad. It is getting worse. I see no reason to expect even the most basic of gun supplies won't be in short supply for, well hell another 18 months or so, at the minimum.

All I can say is that if you are on backorder for cleaning patches then JIT has totally collapsed.

I was thinking about purchasing a bolt action .308, 30-06, or 6.5 Creedmoor. I logged onto the website of the gun shop I go to and...

No lever actions, no bolt actions, only 2 AR's available in semi-auto and only 2 shotguns available.

Craziest thing I've ever seen.

Items are available and some stuff isn't really overpriced. A LGS near me has very limited handgun selection, but he still had about four or five ARs. Decent manufactures. Some were still sub-$1000. He had a ton of AR parts and they were all reasonably priced. Another LGS in a nearby larger city has always been high on price, but they do have selection. They have a smaller selection of AR parts/accessories, but they are more for folks wanting a higher end builds than back-up parts.

Better check goodwill for cheap t-shirts to cut up !

Maybe try out the boresnakes. I have never used those, but hear good reports.

A search on optics planet will turn up a lot of slow shipping comments. Your 20 Guage bandolier made me order a 12 Guage version when I saw one in stock someplace. Just cause. T shirts and bed sheets will be cleaning guns just fine while you wait on backorder. I personally feel this is happening on purpose. Store inventory gets taxed so just in time is used to get around that. Cut supply lines on your enemy to hurt your enemy.

Optics Planet is known for their slow shipping. Amazon lists multiple bandos with quick shipping. Cancel the Optics Planet order and get one on Amazon.

Check your local Walmart for gun cleaning equipment. As of a couple days ago mine had plenty.

Bore snakes are slick for a quick clean up but to really scrub nothing beats brush and patches.

T-shirts are made from patch material:)
Our local Walmart also had good supply of cleaning kits.

What surprised me was looking in to buying Crosman .22 hunting pellets for my PCP rifle and they were not easy to find, and the price has also doubled in the last 6 months. None to be found on local stores shelves, I had to order from a local franchise that 'hopes' to have them by mid month.

Bore Snake sounds like a metaphor for a politician.

Don’t forget to snap up extra magazines. The new gun owners haven’t yet figured out how many of those will be necessary in a conflict. Eventually they will want more, a lot more. Magazines are still available in my AO (central PA) even the Glock fun sticks.

Many shops around here have hundreds of guns, this is the gunshine state you know. Prices are not much higher than they were. Now full retail vs $50 under for handguns. Ammo of all kinds available locally, double to triple normal price for common calibers, not much higher for odd stuff. Each shop is out of some ammo and some guns, but you can still get what you want. I found this out getting a box of .44 mag for my new revolver. It falls into the odd class, priced not much higher than the already high price it sells for, now very comparable to the price of .380 or 9mm HP.

Stuff you would get online is getting very thin. Things that are out or low are reloading dies, reloaders, powder, primers, bullets, many models of guns, bullet molds and buckshot.

Dont worry, we will make more.

Dont forget to scrounge through fleabay.
I picked up ten packs of 1000 surplus issue ar cleaning patches for 5 bucks each.

Lubricants and grease I typically use automotive as the conditions inside an engine are much more extreme than what yall would ever see in any bangstick.

And I do have an extensive selection of special purpose application lubricants such as kroil balistioil clp barricade and others.

Make up a qt of Ed's Red.....a little bit goes a long way and will cost less than 25dollars .

Old white cotton t shirts are awesome for cleaning. And by recycling them into rags you are doing the ecologically sound thing.

Surplus stores and thrift stores are good to try to find things like general purpose slings web equipment/pouches and miscellaneous stuff. I actually use a golf bag strap as a sling for my crossbow. The damn thing is so heavy duty I'm quite positive it will outlast the crossbow.

Dont forget to have a good selection of roll pin and brass pin punches. Soft face non marring hammers and hollow ground screwdrivers. Wood and plastic blocks for supporting your work while driving pins.
Amazon and harbor freight are excellent inexpensive sources. The local home improvement big box is good for 0000 steel wool and mineral spirits. Small chip brushes and miscellaneous hardware for small washers that rolled underneath wherever the missing socks are hiding out in.

Everything is still available.

Just be smart about it in your quest for acquisition of logistical supplies. Think outside the box. If everyone else is going to the LGS for (insert item here) than I'm going in the opposite direction and will find my item where least looked.

I am currently building a semi-custom bolt with a Origin Action, Preferred Barrel, Triggertech trigger and a KRG chassis. I will be into the gun around 2,500. Thing about custom guns is that you have to wait for the parts to be manufactured since they are custom.

Standard wait for the action: 12 weeks, the barrel 10-12 weeks, everything else is in stock and I got in hand a few days after ordering.

Now after everything is finished I could probably clear a tidy profit from it. Now on to the hunt for 6.5 creedmoor brass.....

I’m pretty ok on stuff, or at least my better half thinks so. I’m trying not to play right now. Midway and Brownells are sad about this though. They probably miss me. I’ve seen a few panics over the last 20 years or so. This one is clearly the worst. Normal seems a long way off right now.

Cool! Keep us posted!

I picked up a Ruger PR last month in 6.5. It's a new caliber for me. I found everything I need to reload between Midway, Brownells, and 21st Century Shooting. For brass you have to decide between small and large primer. I went with large primer, sounded like there may be a problem with hang fires in cold weather. I've used Lapua for precision rifle in the past but went with Peterson this time around. Midway actually had H4350, don't know if they still do.

I know quite a few liberals on faceborg that have been buying or trying anyway, mainly women, and they're complaining that the right has bought up all of the guns and ammo. I'd say both sides are buying up all of the guns and ammo, mainly first time buyers.

Fortunately, I'm ok on training ammo and green tip. I also have 10 20 round Vietnnam era aluminum mags, plus a 30 round metal one that came from wyndam with the AR-15. I also have 8 30 round P mags plus a battle belt and a Condor chest ammo pouch.

I'm thinking short, intense, high rate of fire versus slow and long lasting battle over days.

Hell, I think I will only have to clean them once. :D :arg:

I got one full combat load, all pre loaded and ready. I will be fighting perverts who want transexual story hours with 9 year olds at the library, and have 8 year olds using bi sexual bathrooms.
Oh yeah, I'm more than ready when they annoint harris as our marxist tyrant.
