CRISIS Ebola: National Guard commandeering people

A colleague’s wife has done DNA work in the past for the Center for Disease Control. She doesn’t work there anymore. This morning National Guard soldiers and someone from the government showed up at their doorstep. They wanted to commandeer her to go work in Dallas on the Ebola outbreak. My colleague managed to stop the commandeering by contacting his wife’s doctor and having the doctor say she is unable to travel and work away from home. Without the medical excuse they were actually going to force her to go to Dallas. My colleague says the Ebola problem is much worse than they are telling us.

It sounds to me like she's a researcher, not a clinician. This implies (to me, at least) that they're (CDC, .gov, etc) grasping at straws and are in panic mode.

Bike Junkie - I have no reason to doubt your veracity...
But just one question: How do you KNOW this happened? FOAF? or did your colleague tell you himself?

Yes she can, the NDAA opened this door, to comandeer personal resources, from farms, manufactorers, etc, INCLUDING employees. Don't believe me, go read it.

Eta thank you OP, this alarming at best. Tally is up to 100 exposed. Plane went on to LA after departure of ebola patient. Backtracking steps, patient went to conveniance store nearby and vomitted outside. This is a potential firestorm smoldering in a large metro area.

usamriid has started recruiting assets

if they can replace her they won't be back

but there are executive orders that do allow for 'recruitment' by hook or crook

Yeah, we are going to need some more input BJ. My wife is a certified phlebotomist in other words a card carrying vampire. If the NG started doing this sort of thing we would be quite concerned that they would come for her because she is on the state registry. She doesn't do it for a living but her cert is current. If it goes big they will need people to draw blood for test purposes and might very well "draft" people which we would like to avoid. She would qualify for a medical excuse though.

I was posting as you updated...thanks.

1) It's "Capt TRIPS" not "Trix".

2) This has been in LAW for over 10 years, NOT NDAA, but the Medical Skills Draft. It's been on the books for longer than that, as 10 yrs ago or so they rephrased it a small amount.
NOT an Eo either.

Google Medical and Special Skills Draft. Part of the Draft Law on the books.

Just out of curiosity, and keep in mind I don't know your laws down there, what would happen if she flat out refused to go with them? Maybe she/they should consider not even answering the door anymore. If they can't find her, they can't forcibly recruit her...

So I take it everyone is assuming that this one data point implies many others?

To me Yes.
If they are invoking this measure for such a small group of suspected individuals it tells me that they are gearing up for something bigger.

Other forums are posting similar intel/info on the situation from members in the "field". It's not just here. Personally I'll take as much info as possible and make my own decisions on personal action based on ALL available intel.

Yes they can... as a medical person this was one of my fears, being forced.

He told my wife and she told me. I have known this colleague for 15 years and his veracity is impeccable.

Well then perhaps your wife missed something in translation because as dramatic as that sounds, "Nat Guard showing up at the door" is just not the way this would be handled.
Just sayin'

Thanks for the clarification. Does this law require some sort of emergency declaration in order to implement it?
