was out and about today and couldn't help hearing a couple folks (who apparently have family members in jail) talking about a person in jail in Kenosha on ebola fears? I came home and googled the story and found this...but why would they take her all the way to Kenosha? Tried to see if this was posted here but couldn't get anything to come up? Doesn't make sense to me.

A woman from Liberia who was detained at O’Hare International Airport was monitored for the Ebola virus as a precaution while being temporarily held at the Kenosha County Jail, though she showed no signs of being sick, officials said Thursday.

The woman was sent back to O’Hare and the custody of federal authorities at about 5 a.m. Thursday, according to the Kenosha County sheriff’s department, which did not say why she was detained.

Woman detained at Kenosha jail monitored for Ebola

The woman was taken to the jail in Wisconsin at about 1 a.m. Wednesday after being detained by federal authorities at O’Hare, Sheriff David Beth said.

Upon screening the woman at intake, jail officials discovered that though she had flown from Belgium, she was from Liberia, a country where the deadly Ebola virus has spread. Though the woman did not appear to be sick, jail guards were understandably nervous, Beth said, and took precautions to isolate the woman in a separate cell.

The jail contacted officials from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the state health department and local hospitals in case the woman became ill, Beth said.

Jail officials monitored the woman regularly for any symptoms, including taking her temperature twice a day, Beth said.

The virus is transmitted only by direct contact with bodily fluids, but the woman was placed in a negative air flow cell as a precaution, though the sheriff said that was probably not necessary.

Beth referred all questions to federal officials about why the woman was detained and why she was expected to be deported. U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which is handling the case, has not yet answered questions about it.

Federal authorities assured jail officials that they screened the woman at the airport following CDC guidelines for admittance to the United States, and that the woman was healthy, jail officials said in a news release.

Really? The context of this story is nothing less than profiling someone from Liberia. And yes, why to Kenosha and then back to O’Hare.

This story has more holes than WI Swiss Cheese.

The wife and I were talking about ebola, and what would happen when it hits the prison population in this country. It will be interesting, for sure.

That is weird. That is one long drive.

Kenosha is about 60 miles North of O'Hare International Airport. Why drag somebody from the third largest metropolitan area (Chicago) up here to Cheeseland? (!)

It makes no sense. I never heard or saw the story on local TV or radio yesterday or today. I called WISN TV 12 Milwaukee and they said they -did- run the story on TV last night.

I searched the Milwaukee Dead Tree site and of course they didn't have it, even though a Chicago paper did. Typical for JSOnline.com.

Liberian detainee released from Kenosha jail

Sheriff says woman showed no signs of ebola
UPDATED 10:27 AM CDT Oct 09, 2014

KENOSHA, Wis. —A woman from the Ebola hot zone, who was being detained in the Kenosha County Jail, has been released.

A press release from the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department states the woman was released at 5 a.m. today. The woman was detained by Immigration Customs Enforcement at O'Hare International Airport and taken to the Kenosha County Jail early Wednesday morning.

ICE told Kenosha authorities the Liberian woman was screened by U.S. health officials. The Kenosha Co. Sheriff's Department press release said the woman showed no signs or symptoms of the Ebola virus.

The woman still appeared to be healthy when she was turned back over to ICE agents this morning .

For 10 years, the Kenosha County Jail has housed federal inmates.

Why the woman was detained and why she was expected to be deported? Sounds like something other than an Ebola scare especially since they made a point of saying "For 10 years, the Kenosha County Jail has housed federal inmates".

Where or to whom did they release her?

very common for the lower population counties adjacent to the larger ones to go into the prison cell renting bizness .... Kankakee County (IL) built a new prison with full capacity budgeted by housing Chicago/Crook County inmates .... big time $$$$$

Apparently it started as some sort of immigration issue.

Liberian detainee leaves Kenosha County Jail, showed no signs of illness

UPDATE: Kenosha County Sheriff's Office says the detainee left the county jail at 5 a.m. Thursday and showed no signs of having the Ebola virus during her stay. She was taken to O'Hare International Airport in Chicago and turned over to ICE officials. Sheriff David Beth says the county is reviewing the procedures of the jail with staff and evaluating its relationship with the government due to this situation. (?)

KENOSHA COUNTY -- An immigration detainee is being watched at the Kenosha County Jail for possible signs of Ebola.

Authorities say there's no indication that she's sick or has been in contact with anyone who is sick, but concerns are high because the woman is from Liberia.

"We have this person in isolation right now and we are monitoring them several times a day just to make sure this person doesn't show any type of disease," said Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth.

The Kenosha County Jail serves as a regional holding facility for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, so it's not uncommon to see immigration detainees from all over the world.

It's unclear how long the woman will be in Kenosha, but Beth says he's confident the woman poses no immediate threat.

I can understand why they did it, she is from Liberia, Liberia is a hot bed of Ebola. The first person to die of Ebola in the US is from Liberia I am glad they are profiling people from Liberia, Obama isn't stopping air travel from Liberia somebody has to do something because Obola isn't.
