Earthquake Shakes Northwestern Nicaragua

A strong quake struck northwestern Nicaragua close to the Honduran border Thursday night.

The temblor with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 prompted the government to shut schools in the cities of Leon and Chinandega, presidential adviser on education Salvador Vanegas tweeted.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake's epicenter was 16 miles northeast of Chinandega. The USGS said it had a depth of 6.2 miles and struck late Thursday night.

The earthquake was felt strongly in Nicaragua's capital, Managua, more than 70 miles south of the epicenter, according to The Associated Press. Reports on social media indicated that the quake also shook communities in neighboring countries of El Salvador and Honduras.

The quake forced hospital patients in Chinandega to spend the night in the open on gurneys, La Prensa newspaper reported.

Some residents of the small peninsular community of Punta Venecia fled coastal areas out of fear of a tsunami, the paper added.

Oh, oh.......somebody is angry with Ecuador.....a few weeks ago, a radio program I listen to, religiously, had a most fascinating guest speaker...named James McCanney. He is extremely knowledgeable about so many things, including science and politics. He said, without reservation, that our govt. caused that original big earthquake, recently, because of politics. I would have to go back and listen to the archives to refresh my memory of what is was we wanted.....I think uranium might have been one of the reasons.

He said, in this week's interview, that Obama hasn't sent one penny of aid to the country. Mr. McCanney said this poor country is being pushed to accept a loan which, if they accepted it, they would still have to default, leaving the World Bank to wind up with the country's resources. There was more to it, tho, so I encourage you to check it out and listen to the show.

He said our govt. has interfered in other South American countries' governments, and they hate us.

This made me think......not too long ago, we fed the world. Now, thanks to govt. unfair regulations to farmers and ranchers, we have lost so many of our food sources, in this country.
If the other countries who now hate us, decide to attack us and slap embargoes on us, like we do with everyone else we get in an argument with, how would we feed ourselves?

That is one reason I keep gardening, even if I am 83 years old, and starting to wear out.

I tell you, after hearing that interview, even I was shaken, tho I knew so many wicked things our govt. has done.
