Driver's Licenses for Illegals - NO!

With the help of the loud voices of citizens across Massachusetts, we were able to stop an amendment (the sponsor withdrew the amendment before the debate at 11:55pm) to the Transportation Reform Bill, which if passed would have provided driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. While off the table for today, we must be prepared to fight against any and all efforts to provide driver's licenses or any official governmental identification to someone of illegal status. Providing a driver's license to an illegal alien results in real and serious public safety risks.
Those in favor of the proposals of issuing driver's licenses to illegal aliens have argued that it would improve national security and road safety. The security argument is outrageous on its face as many illegal aliens often use aliases and fraudulent documents in the first place. Just ask anyone who works behind the counter at one our Registry of Motor Vehicles offices about the continuous parade of illegal immigrants trying to pass documents which have obviously been fabricated.
Let us not forget or dismiss too easily that any government issued identification card opens the door for other state sponsored entitlements, including food stamps, welfare and educational subsidies. Today is a victory for law and order, and the legal citizens of Massachusetts, but I expect those who want to push benefits for illegals will try again.
