Don’t Give Up – A long rant

Peter Gabriel

Lyrics at the bottom of this post:

I just listened to this song and it prompted me to share my thoughts.

The doom and gloom prevalent in Today’s news can really wear one down. I had a realization, a real epiphany the other night.

I tend to have a negative view of what the future holds for us. My wife some times calls me Mr-Doom-And-Gloom. I believed I was just being realistic give the current economic, political, and social times.

My epiphany was the realization that I didn’t just expect TEOTWAWKI scenario, I actually desired it. I was startled. I meditated for a while trying to figure out why I would feel that way.

I thought about how I felt as a child. I felt safe, more so than today, anyway. Even with the Emergency Atomic Attack drills and getting under my desk, I felt safer than I do today.

We left our house and car doors unlocked, the keys in the car. We didn’t have privacy fences hiding us from our neighbors. We were poor, but happy. We didn’t have organizations trying to take our religion away. We didn’t have so much Government creating so many rules instructing us on how to live. Maybe I was too young to pay attention to approaching a TEOTWAWKI situation like the Cuba Bay Of Pigs.

I always view the United States as home and as a land of opportunity. To me, that meant you could achieve whatever you wanted if you worked hard enough at it.

People did not have a sense of entitlement. The Constitution was treated as law, not as a “guideline”. No where in it was a guarantee of a house or a low mortgage.

There used to be loyalty by a corporation to its employees and the employees to the corporation. There may have been greedy businesses but the entire financial and corporate world was not ruled by Share Holder greed. CEO’s did not get rewarded when they were unsuccessful.

Small but vocal groups did not push their agendas on the majority.

I envisioned a scenario where nukes giving off EMP send the United States back to a time without electricity. There would be no monolithic government dictating how you live. People would be trying to survive and not play all these silly social and political games.

The communities that pulled together would thrive, those whose individuals acted with the same narcissistic self-serving attitudes would not survive.

A person’s word would mean something.

Justice would be swift.

You would reap the rewards of your hard work instead of having a governing body tell you to share your wealth with people that did not work as hard. The people that do not contribute do not survive. Period. Think the Parable of the Ant and The Grasshopper.
I just listened to this song on the radio and it stirred up strong emotions:

Don’t Give Up

Peter Gabriel

In this proud land we grew up strong
We were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail

No fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I’ve changed my face, I’ve changed my name
But no one wants you when you lose

Don’t give up
cos you have friends
Don’t give up
You’re not beaten yet
Don’t give up
I know you can make it good

Though I saw it all around
Never thought I could be affected
Thought that wed be the last to go
It is so strange the way things turn

Drove the night toward my home
The place that I was born, on the lakeside
As daylight broke, I saw the earth
The trees had burned down to the ground

Don’t give up
You still have us
Don’t give up
We don’t need much of anything
Don’t give up
cause somewhere there’s a place
Where we belong

Rest your head
You worry too much
Its going to be alright
When times get rough
You can fall back on us
Don’t give up
Please don’t give up

got to walk out of here
I cant take anymore
Going to stand on that bridge
Keep my eyes down below
Whatever may come
And whatever may go
That rivers flowing
That rivers flowing

Moved on to another town
Tried hard to settle down
For every job, so many men
So many men no-one needs

Don’t give up
cause you have friends
Don’t give up
You’re not the only one
Don’t give up
No reason to be ashamed
Don’t give up
You still have us
Don’t give up now
Were proud of who you are
Don’t give up
You know its never been easy
Don’t give up
cause I believe there’s the a place
There’s a place where we belong

Unfortunatly that, or something like that, may be the only way that this Republic can be saved. Gov't does not serve the `People' anymore, they just serve themselves. Easy to understand the rational for this article.:shr:

Good post by the way........

Another Song - Queensryche

It's weird how the songs seem to be speaking to me today.

I found another song I thought was relevant.

Queensryche - Sign of the Times from the Hear In The Now Frontier

From Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LRTANpUPAc

Heading for the classroom yesterday
The kids file through the metal machine
It finds what they may hide
No it just aint right...
A sign of the times

Another church is burning to the ground...
Looking for the vandals and theyre nowhere to be found
But the hates alive
A sign of the times, sign of the times...
A sign of the times, sign of the times...

(accoustic break)
Would someone please let me know how we have spun out of control?
Has the captain let go of the wheel?
Or could we please try to find a way to be a bit more kind?
I see the road to tomorrow in the haze!

(solo)

On the senate floor they congregate
Many pockets lined with green,
From those behind the scenes, yeah they take the bribe
( its on the side )
A sign of the times, sign of the times...
A sign of the times, sign of the times...
