FARM Dog tapeworm question

My dogs get these things every summer ! I give them oral pills for fleas
and I rarely see a flea on them ….BUT the tapeworms appear anyway.
The vet hits me up for $20 a pill and it takes several pills per dog.
Does anyone have a cheaper treatment that works ?

They can ingest the fleas if the sniff/munch on any dead (or live) things that carry fleas. Squirrels, rabbits, etc found in the environment are the most likely cause. Since you are already giving an oral flea preventive, get a script from your vet (assuming they don't carry it) for Sentinel Spectrum. It prevents heartworms & fleas, and kills rounds, whips, hooks, and tapes.

ETA: You can find it online for about $11.25/monthly dose for a 50-100 lb dog.

Has No Life - Lives on TB
I gave my little girl a single dose of Cestex from the vet two days ago. It paralyzes the worms and they are digested. In paralyzing the worms it must have an effect on the colon because my little girl hasn't had a movement in over 24 hours. I gave here some coconut oil tonight and will give her more in the morning if she still hasn't gone. I'm disappointed the vet didn't tell me this side effect and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I used to raise and show dogs. We put 1 teaspoon of food grade diatomaceous earth sprinkled on their kibble every day. No worms and nice coats and teeth.

Day by day
Our dogs get tapeworms every few years or so. I recall reading a good number of critters can carry the darn things, including other bugs. We've used Droncit in the past, don't think it's as expensive as others, but it is effective.

DEPLORABLE ME
Praziquantel is the ingredient in those expensive pills, and you can buy it on eBay as a powder and mix it in some food for the same effect....a lifetime supply for multiple dogs for about $50 dollars...
One of the sellers is a vet who explains the dosage per pound of dog, cat, or horse....

I give my boxers diatomaceous earth every morning right after I take my dose. I use it, successfully, for arthritis. I give it to my dogs for intestinal worms. Works for both my dogs and me.

Around a year ago I got some pups that were 3 or 4 months old. Over the next few months they got to live in the yard and got fixed and normal shots and what not.

Other pups from this litter had no issues with worms, mine had major issues with worms after I had them for a bit.

They were kept in a kennel and kept outside for the most part and in talking to folks and doing some reading I basically decided the yard has worm eggs or something along those lines in it. The pups like to dig and be pups and what not and ingested the eggs I guess.

I will research the stuff mentioned here and compare to what I do now.

I have some flea tick stuff, common to put it on their back in liquid form, some tablets for worms, and I do like the diatomacious earth but don't consider it a do all item.

I have not really had issues other than the first go round with worms, bloody stool, and while the pups were full of energy the vet folks felt the pups were very close to being dead.

Currently they weigh in at 80lbs and probably 100lbs, I gave up worrying about exact weights. I want general decent guesses for medications and to have an idea of what just knocked me over when playing.

Run searches and do reading and see what works best for you. I felt more comfortable with the pills the first time around but the next time around I am more likely to go with the powder and figure out dosages with it.
