Thanks to NoMoreLibs, I’ve located and enabled the DISLIKE emoji on the LIKES emoji group. Currently the “weight” is set to “neutral.” That is, it doesn’t add or subtract from a member’s “reaction score.” Here’s where the “how do we use it” comes into play.

Should it apply to article content or the user him/herself?

If the former, the “neutral” setting applies. If the latter, it should be set to “negative.”

I leave it up to you to decide. All the others apply to content. At least, that’s how I’ve seen them used so far.

I say content. Just because I don't like what somebody puts up doesn't mean I have an active dislike for the poster.

Even with NoMoreLibs, just because he's pulling the most disgusting gifs from Creepshow he can find--at least he hasn't gotten into the real horrorshow stuff--doesn't mean I wouldn't read something he posted.

I say content. My motto is argue the argument not the poster. That's good debate.

Sometimes you can't argue people out of a position they didn't use logic to think themselves into (e.g. the irrational police/.mil hatred shown by some).

I do however think that if dislikes have negative weight, then some members may take offense to being disliked and will proactively dislike the posts of others, utilizing the new feature as a weapon.

Hypothetical:
Dennis takes my cookie, slaps down a post, or whatever..... The big D Dog has 179,000+ posts that I can now go dislike..........

Wow, this is turning out far more interesting than I thought. A little surprising, but not too much.

We already had the sad face and the mad face. I admit I have been reluctant to even use those.
I don't see much value in anything negative. And no I do not believe that everyone should get a trophy :)
The thumbs down is fine and I think everyone can realize it is for just a simple disagreement.

As long as everyone knows that the “likes” emojis are only for content, we can use them without fear of hurting “feelz” (heh).

Based on a few of the posts in this thread alone, doesn't look like it.

I can't believe we have such a Facebook loving, only make me feel good crowd.

The old software had “reputation” capability, which actually affected a “reputation score.” Way back at least 15 years ago, I tried activating it. The reaction was so negative that I turned it off. So when people clamored for “likes”, all I could do was smile recalling the previous attempt.

Interestingly enough, the range of "likes" does NOT show up on my phone. All that shows is "like" with none of the options.

The "feelz" comment was made in jest.

The option to address people directly is always there...and does get used.

Your comment is not really applicable.
