…… Digital pressure canning

Since replacing mine, I haven't tried using my water bath canner on the elements. I don't know if they will get that hot, but I don't have any problem with keeping water boiling, or deep frying foods. The elements don't cool down and heat back up the way the old ones did.
Thanks for sharing. I love to pressure can as many vegetables, sauces, etc. as I can every summer. I have been given two of the digital pressure canners as presents. One for my birthday and another this past Christmas. I haven’t tried either so far but after reading the comments here I may give one a try. Guess I am just set in my ways. Haha

I love mine, but I understand that everyone is different. Give the digital one a try, and if you're not satisfied, you can always go back to your normal way. You won't know, til you give it a shot.

I will try them. Do you can green beans, potatoes, etc. in yours? I plan to can strawberry jam tomorrow. That is if the power stays on. Had a bad storm go through about 6:15 and the power went out at 6:26. Just came back on. But there are supposed to be more storms tonight and they may be severe so who knows what tomorrow will bring. We have a lot of trees around the county and when the wind blows too hard you can always count on the power going out.

So glad to read that there are replacement options for these new stove burners. We want to replace our kitchen appliances and our hold out has been the new stove because of the burners not getting hot enough to can. When I have talked to salesmen on several occasions they just say they won’t get hot enough to allow canning. Don’t give the option of replacing the burner after purchased. At least now I know they can be replaced. Thanks for the info.
Yeah you are welcome, no problem. I'm pretty sure all stove top elements, and we're not talking about those glass tops, we're talking removable/replace elements, are replaceable. For the glass tops ones you have to get a specialist, and replace the whole thing.

The only thing you need to be careful of is to get the same kind you are using or came with the stove. There are two different kinds. And that would be the plug in, that you can't see. Pull it out and look at it. Like I said there are two kinds, one looks like each one is a loop of medal. The other is more like a plug for a lamp or clock.

And before you buy you may want to get the salesman to show you, how to do it. Like:

Does that element come out?

Yes.

How?

Like this.

O, Ok thanks.

Hope that helps.

Carport canning.

We have an old stove set up for LP, it stays out in the barn and gets moved up to the house when several batches need to be run.

It is set up with connections for a BBQ bottle.

This is what I plan to set up in the Quonset hut, however it will have a bunch more gizmos in there.,...where I do ALL of the cooking and food preps to keep from over heating the RV.

I just got this new digital canner a few weeks ago. The only thing I have actually canned was ground beef from my freezer. I haven't used it, since. I've always water bath canned all my garden veggies, but with this new canner, I will be using it from now on. Using this pressure canner is actually easier than using the water bath canner.

Thank you for the information. I will certainly ask about how to remove the element. When we do replace our stove I want to get one with the replaceable element and not a glass top. I have had three people tell me their glass tops cracked when they were canning so I definitely don’t want one of those. It will be a while before we replace the appliances because when we do we want to replace the counter tops and flooring as well. From what I understand it is still hard getting the appliances you want now so we are looking at next spring. Hopefully, next year the availability of appliances will be better.

I use the water bath for my jams and pickles but I use the pressure canner for everything else. I am going to get out the manuals to the two digital canners tomorrow and check them out before I do my jam. I didn’t get to make it today because the strawberries need to ripen a bit more.

Just a thought:

If it were me, I would prep what I needed to, and then to do it when I wanted it done.

Some of the .....stories of shortages, are way over blown. So it depends on what you want, the brand, and area you are located, if there is a shortage or not.

Example: SB's washer quit, so it was like need one now, or it's a wash tub and scrub board. We went to a local appliance/furniture store because it was close to the house. They had several in our price range and wasn't to concerned with "brand" so we got the GE and drove home.

However if we were concerned with brand - he also was a dealer of Speed Queen and hasn't been able to get one in over a year.

Even with all the food shortages (don't know about baby formula) for the most part our area hasn't see any. Even during the TP nation wide, we could go to our locally owned grocery store and they had all you could want, with no limits.

I would think, again depending on location, that unless there is a particular brand you are in favor of, for the most part won't be a problem.

Just some thoughts. O and BTW inflation may also play a part. LOL a big part.

Well, it’s really just a matter of wanting to redo the kitchen so it’s not a pressing issue because things aren’t working. My husband replaced the receptacle for the large front burner in our stove today so now all of the burners work and the oven bakes beautifully. So, it should be good for a while at least. When we built our home 20 years ago we put Formica on the counters and said that “one day” we would upgrade it with marble or something else. Maybe by the time we get around to it they will come out with a new, improved burner design because they realize how ridiculous this present design is. I won’t hold my breath though. I did tell my husband about your advice about asking how the burner comes out for when we do get a new stove.

That's great.

Another food for thought:

This house was built in the 1930's, and we've had to upgrade a lot. In some places 2-3 times, since we've been living here almost 40 years. And being young and dumb, we thought this is great and we'll just remodel as we go and save money (LOL saving money in a money pit LOL) Anyway....

I redid the cabinets, and because nothing in this 1930's self built house (all the wood for the house was harvested on the property, and was rough cut so our 2X4's are actual 2X4's, nothing today fits) is straight or even, I knew and tested the corners, which were out of square, course, so just going to someplace like Lowe's and getting a counter top cut to length with a 45 degree angle would not work. There would be a gap like Stacy Abram's front teeth in either the front or back, and to do it right and proper would take a pro. at big bucks. So put it off until I could come up with a solution.

Went to a cousin's house and his counter tops were 4" ceramic tile. I thought and knew I could do that. So built the cabinets, and put marine board on top cause it was going to get wet doing the ceramic tile, and then I could cut each tile piece to fit, and it worked.

Just saying there is an option if you want it. and if hubby wants some info, have him PM me. It's not hard to do, and looks good too. IMHO
