Good lord.

If it is available, buy it.

None to be had at any of the stores I frequent. Nothing but odd ball ammo.

Bi-mart has shotgun and .22. Some popular hunting rounds, but nothing made for military is available. Black powder is available. Only shotgun primers are available.

Bi-mart had a blued / walnut .223 ranch mini-14. $675.

"Cheap and Cheerful" was 3 years ago.

Now it's "grin and bear it" - if you can find it.

Walmart is to expensive???????????

Please tell me where you are getting it cheaper I will be there in a heart beat.

I just came home from on of the local ones and NO pistol ammo except for 357Sig. About 8 boxes of .308 at $13.97 and the same price and number on 30-06 and some other hunting rounds. Plus no .223 ammo. And a few bricks of .22 But they did have a good buy on 00 buck and slugs. I will have to go back and get some. :)

Happy hunting. :)

The plrices an the local gun stores are a lot more then wallyworlds.

Check www.ammoman.com
Other than that wally world is your best bet or start reloading!

No more cheap ammo. At times no ammo at all. What 2 years ago was 9 cents is going for fifty cents.

Hint: you're not going to find "cheap" 5.56 at this time. Too late. WAY too late. MAYBE you can get 9, but only MAYBE.

A little to late to reload as well. Most places that sell components are out of back ordered. Midway is the biggest for reloading but they are out of most of it.

If you do want to relaod then get someone who has done it and they know what they are doing. :) Safety all the way or you will be sorry. :shkr:

223 ammo in stock here: http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=8740&dir=18|830|845

Expect 3-4 weeks for delivery; they're behind on shipping. Online orders only (they haven't answered the phones since the election in Nov.). The barrel twist should be 1 in 9" or 1 in 7" to shoot this ammo. This ammo is maybe $40 per 1000 higher than plain 55gr FMJ; not bad for 69gr BTHP. I have no personal experience with this 223 ammo.

9mm 115gr FMJ in stock here:
http://www.natchezss.com/product.cf...rodTitle=Speer Lawman 9mm Luger 115 grain FMJ

Pricing is about the same as wally world plus you'll pay shipping, but they have it.

Having a similar problem with 7.62x39. Almost none to be found less than 15.00 a box of 20.

NOTE TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN BUYING AMMO OR RELOADING COMPONENTS:

Most of us have already bought our stuff 6-12 months ago. Prices have gone UP slightly since Obama took office in January, and right now, IF you can get ammo or reloading components at ANY price, buy it. Most dealers are in a 30-90 day backorder situation.

Even internet dealers/distributors are seriously backordered ALL the way to the Manufacturers, who HAVE to fill contracts for DOD and HSD first, which is currently taking up 80-90% of their production.

If you can find it, buy it - if the dealer will let you place a back-order and NOT charge your CC until your order ships, you might consider the BO, since they're filling back-orders before they put stuff on the shelves, which isn't leaving much inventory to go on the shelves, and most is gone before the truck leaves the dock.

If someone would be kind enough to post a stickied list of dealers/distributors who are accepting BO's, please do so. Anyone asking about ammo, etc. should consult that list, since we don't have any better info, and if we find stuff, we're going to buy all we can afford. That's just how it is!

I just purchased .223 at Dunhams Sporting goods for $5.99 per 20 round box. They have a sale every couple of weeks.

MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!

I hope this is brass case ammo and not steel case like wolf or other russian ammo.

A local gun dealer has red tiger 7.62x39 for $269 a case. 1000 rnds $5.38 for 20.

Okay, I'm quoting DH here, "due to scarcity of 5.56 would anyone suggest 6.8mm upper as alternative?"

DH really needs his own membership!

No. 6.8 ammo is even harder to come by and more expensive than .223/5.56.
Stay the course and go ammo hunting. Dont switch to a more rare caliber in the hopes to find the ammo for it. Besides it if goes SHTF then the most common will be the 223 of your enemies. ;)

If he thinks 5.56 is expensive, he really needs to price 6.8. Around here the stuff is as expensive as sin, and not nearly so available.

Absolutely not.

Run with 5.56mm. A unique upper or rifle round will do you no good if the SHTF.

To paraphrase the over-used Navy SEAL expression, "The only day ammo was cheap was yesterday." We are definitely in a downward spiral, but 'relative' deals can still be found.

Local Wal-Mart had some Federal 55gr FMJ for around $41 per box of 100. It is in a square red box that you might otherwise mistake for shotgun shells or a brick of 22. Not as good as that Dunham's deal posted above, but a hell of a lot better than the $0.50/round that Remington seems to be getting lately for the same stuff. Plus it is still brass/boxer. Even Wolf has been climbing as stores sell into the frenzy, which is just crazy.

I got burned years ago by a bunch of Prvi that looked great but short-cycled every round. Ever since then I have been gunshy about buying without a test drive. Nothing like having to pull the handle back each time to really drive the point home. Plus I have not seen dramatically better deals online vs. brick and mortar in a while once everything else is factored in.

These days you just have to hold your nose and buy whenever you can.

May I kindly suggest you start - PRONTO!!!!!!

:dstrs:

You're right! I am going to get my carry permit this spring. I've been promising to do it but now that I have the store I have to make it a priority.

DH is now a member (thank you Dennis), his screen name is Viking and will be along at some point to say hi.

Thanks for all the info, sounds like we have some shopping to do soon.

Unlike at our local Wal-Marts, where the ammo shelves have been bare for weeks, I was in Cabela's last Tuesday, and I've never seen them have as much ammo for sale before. That included a pallet on the floor that was full of .22 bricks and bulk ammo in those plastic containers for calibers they've never even stocked before.

Like everybody else has said, you are going to pay. It's not like two, three, or five years ago. My advice is find some good stuff for sale, "bite the bullet" on the price, and get some!
