I’ve written another chapter, but it might be my last. I think people have lost interest in this story. I’m not like Kathy here. She’s the goddess of story writing. I don’t get any feedback, and I don’t know where to take it. I’m going to post this Chapter here and in the White Woman story. Don’t worry about hurting my feelings. There is nothing you can type that does not help me. In fact if it’s too bad I might just turn you into a Demon and send you to hell. Ha Ha.

Please give me some input, because I’m thinking this might be the last of it. It was a good ride. Remember I’m not a writer. I’m just a Story Teller, so turn off the lights and listen close. You might hear what haunts me.

Good evening friends this is your Story Teller. I welcome you to a story that is a bit unnerving, so draw up a tombstone and have a seat. I hope you don’t mind I’ve carved your name on it. Well it’s rather lonesome around here at night, so I’ve invited some rather strange people for this chapter.

Our story in this chapter is about Joe and death. Yes, violent death and also about something which is even more terrifying, “The unknown.” If you don’t believe that anything can be more frightening than death. Then you’ve never experienced the ultimate in fear, but you will within the next Chapter. Now turn off the lights, and pull up your tombstone. Then you can read all about what happens in the dark…

Chapter Four

Suzy awoke and found she was standing before Najl. His Voice echoed as he instructed, “In this journey you are sent to protect Joe. The year is 1960 and he’s been trapped by a Demon. You know your job. Save Joe and send the demon back to Hell. Now go forth and destroy Evil.

The phone on the desk started ringing. The Sargent picked up the phone, “Third precinct headquarters this is Vincent hello.”

Joe uttered, “Police, listen you’ve got to help me. You’ve got to, I don’t know how you can, but my name is Watson, Joe Watson I’m a driver for the Canson laundry.”

The Sargent asked, “Where are you Joe?”

Joe replied, “The address where I am. I don’t know that’s part of the trouble. Now look.”

The Sargent started to speak, “Hey wait…”

Joe cut him off, “Listen. I know it sounds crazy but its true check the laundry check the veterans I’m a Marine. They’ll tell you I’m straight. Well I’m in a room someplace. I don’t know where it is or how I got here or what I’m here for. I don’t even know how long I’ve been here. It’s a big room but it’s funny. There are no doors and no windows that I can see. It’s just a couple of chairs and a table with his phone on it. I’m scared.”

The Sargent inquired, “What did you expect us to do?”

Joe insisted, “Find me, find out what this is all about, and get me out of here.”

The Sargent cut in, “I don’t know.”

Joe insisted, “Oh, listen this isn’t a gag. Can’t you tell? You don’t know what it’s like just sitting here waiting not knowing. Where or why or what’s going to happen. Can’t you trace this call or something?”

The Sargent insisted, “Okay hang on.”

Joe sighed, “Oh thank heaven. I was afraid, listen, I hear something. Someone’s coming. I better hang up. I’ll call you back later if I can.

A man dressed like a Doctor came in, “How do you do?

Joe asked, “Who are you?”

The Doctor replied, “My name’s Dr. John Hamilton and your name is?”

Joe replied, “I don’t have to tell you anything.”

The Doctor Acknowledged, “That’s very true. Although I didn’t think you were aware of it. I think I already know everything about you that I’m interested in knowing.”

Joe insisted, “Like what?”

The Doctor declared, “Your name is Joseph Watson, age 26, occupation is employee of the Canson laundry. You were honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps. 6 months ago with the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.”

Joe responded, “So what you went through my pockets. Huh well if you know that much. You know I haven’t got any money.”

The Doctor insisted, “I’m not interested in money.”

Joe asked, “What do you want then? Where is this place? The last thing I remember is making a delivery on Spruce Street. I noticed that the lights were out in the hall, and hearing a noise behind me. You or somebody slugged me.”

The Doctor informed, “That’s right.”

Joe demanded, “Will you stop grinning like that and tell me what this is all about.”

The Doctor explained, “Of course, I brought you here because I need your help in an experiment. An experiment whose details I’ve already worked out with mice, rabbits, cats and other animals.”

Joe demanded, “What kind of an experiment?

The Doctor divulged, “An experiment in fear.”

Joe barked, “Fear!”

The Doctor insisted, “Yes, you fought in the War. You were wounded. That means you’ve probably known fear, and still you won the Bronze Star. Which means you overcame it. Now the question is can you overcome your present fears.”

Joe questioned, “What are you talking about?”

The Doctor exclaimed, “You’re afraid, and nothing has happened to you yet. Absolutely nothing and yet you are afraid. Aren’t you? You’re afraid because you’re face to face with the unknown. You don’t know what I want, and what I’m planning to do. Which is as it should be, and uh, that’s the way we’ll leave it for the moment.”

Then he got up and walked out as Joe yelled, “Hey wait a minute come back here. Come back you can’t just walk out.”

Joe was as mad as much as he was afraid. His mind went into survival mode, as he tried to work out a plan.

With that Joe picked up the phone and called the Police, “Hello police this is Joe Watson again. Listen I got a little more dope. I don’t know if it’ll help, but there was a guy in here just now that said his name was Hamilton, John Hamilton. That’s probably a phony name. He’s about 50, tall over 6 foot, white hair, and gray eyes. No, I still don’t know what it’s all about or what he’s after, but have you been able to trace this number yet? How long will it take? Okay I’ll hang on, but wait the lights just went out. The rooms pitched black dark and somebody’s coming in again. I better stop, but for peete’s sake hurry.”

Joe hung up the phone and demanded, “Who’s that who just came in? Who are you?”

Suzy replied, “Why am I here?”

Joe replied, “Oh great a girl. Keep away from me.”

Suzy insisted, “Keep away! Do you hear me keep away.”

Joe replied, “What’s the angle now?”

Suzy cried, “Angle? Why did you bring me here?”

Joe questioned, “Wait a minute you mean he put the snatch on you too?”

Suzy replied, “When I was on my way home from shopping, and the next thing I knew. Why are you pretending? You’re in on it too. You must be. It’s a trap.”

Joe replied, “It’s a trap all right, but I’m not in on it. I’m in it along with you my name is Watson, Joe Watson.

Suzy informed, “I’m Suzan. You swear?

Joe insisted, “I swear. Why would I lie about it? I wonder why he put you in here.”

Suzy was trying to find out what she was in for and questioned, “Who put us together? Who is he? What’s he going to do?”

Joe informed, “I don’t know he said something about an experiment in fear.”

Suzy thought oh, fear, that is a Demon’s weapon used to take a body. This Demon must want to kill him for his body.

Suzy advised, “Hey listen, we’ve got to get out of here somehow some way he might be listening.”

The Doctor laughed, “Very astute my dear. Of course I’m listening.”

Joe barked, “What! Where are you?”

The Doctor replied, “Right here in the dark. I’ve been here all the time.”

Joe yelled, “Why you!”

Suzy insisted, “No Joe don’t. He must want you to go for him. He’s probably got a gun.”

The Doctor revealed, “Right again my dear. Not that I’ll need it. This is stage two of the experiment. A new stimulus to action has been introduced. It’s man against the unknown, and has become man and woman against the unknown.”

Suzy thought, Unknown is right. You have no idea who I am Demon. Now I know who the Demon is.

Joe insisted, “Look let’s get down to the Brass Tax, and be sensible about this.”

The Doctor went on, “Thank you Joe. That’s why I won’t need my gun. This new stimulus has been negated by an increased sense of responsibility. The responsibility you have towards the girl, and therefore by increased fear.”

Joe barked, “Blast your gun or no gun if I get my hands on you. Where are you? Where are you?”

Suzy could hear Joe banging around in the dark.

Then the Doctor announced, “Outside now, so you can relax that was the final stimulus in this stage. The discovery of your injured Pride, and that I could read your innermost thoughts. I knew exactly what you were going to do, but you mustn’t let that bother you. I already know everything you’re going to do from now on till the end.”

Joe barked, “Listen Hamilton!”

Suzy informed, “He’s gone Joe.”

Joe replied, I know, hold on Suzan. Don’t let it get you. There must be a way some way.”

Suzy asked, “You suppose he’s still listening?”

Joe hypothesized, “It’s hard to say, but I’m not going to take a chance. There’s one thing he didn’t figure on. The telephone.”

Suzie asked, “Here?”

Joe insisted, “Yes if I can find it again in the dark. It’s over here on the table. Here it is. I put through two calls already to the police. I told them what was happening, and asked them to get me out of here. I had to hang up both times before they could trace the call, and get this number.

Back in Dention a man and his wife worked their way into town. Going past the Boarding house then the Saloon, and on down the middle of town. The man informed, “There is a new Hotel at the other end of the street. I think we’ll stop there for the night Eva.”

Eva replied, “Oh John, it so cold tonight. I think we should.”

John pulled the wagon up in front of the Hotel and they walked to the door. John asked, “Do you think we should knock?”

Eva replied, “Why don’t you try the door first. If it’s locked then we’ll knock.”

John tried the door and it opened. Closing the door with a bang John called out, “Anyone here. I need a room.”

Kathy heard John’s voice and called out, “I’m coming.”

Kathy got up and put on her robe, and went to the lobby. Seeing the man and his wife Kathy asked, “You need a room?”

John replied, “Yes and do you know if anyone is at the Livery for my horses?”

Kathy replied, “The room is Fifty cents a night, and I’ll have someone take care of your horses. Still half asleep Kathy went to Origin’s door and peeked in. Origin was sleeping in the chair with her head resting on Henry. Kathy called out, “Origin.” Then she called again, “Origin.”

Origin lifted her head and looked at Kathy, “Yes.”

Kathy replied, “You have horses to put away. We have customers.”

Origin followed Kathy out to the lobby and asked, “Where customers?”

Kathy said, “Right here and their horses are out front.”

Walking to the door Origin looked out, “No see horse.”

Then it hit Kathy. These people are spirits. Kathy exclaimed, “Oh nooo. Origin, come here.”

Origin walked over to Kathy. With Origin standing in-between Kathy and the couple Kathy shot origin with a little spark. Then origin turned around and saw the man and his wife. She walked to the door and saw the horses and said, “I do now.”

Kathy explained, “I’m putting you in room Four. It’s the last room on the right. The Water Closet is across the hall, and the Chamber Pot is under the bed. Don’t turn off the water in the sink in there. We don’t want the water to freeze on us. That’s about it.”

John handed Kathy the Fifty cents as Origin came out all bundled up caring a lantern.

Kathy walked the couple down the hall to their room. Then went back to the lobby and sat at the table thinking. Great I have a couple that just passed over, and didn’t leave. They don’t even know they died. How do I deal with this?

Then she watched out the window as Origin walked their team to the Livery.

Joe kept trying the phone then he heard, “Hello hello, Operator.”

Joe exclaimed, “What! No this isn’t the operator it’s Joe. You’re on a busy line.”

The man insisted, “It doesn’t matter, thank heaven I got somebody. I’ve been trying for about 10 minutes.

Joe insisted, “Now look get off the line will you. I’ve got to get through to the police it’s terribly important.”

The man exclaimed, ”What? You’ve got to help me. My name’s Bob and I am a prisoner someplace. I don’t know where. It’s a strange house somewhere with a Doctor who says his name is Hamilton.”

Joe started laughing and Suzy questioned, “What are you laughing at Joe? What is it?”

Joe explained, “What is it? I haven’t got headquarters. I’ve got a guy. I’m sorry Bob it’s no use.”

Bob asked, “What do you mean?”

Joe replied, “We’re in the same boat. You a girl named Suzan and myself. Hamilton’s got us locked up too.

Bob inquired, “You too?”

Joe explained, “Yeah, he said he knew everything we were thinking, and everything we were going to do. I did get ahold of the police before, but I guess he got wise. We’re talking to each other over an inside line.”

Bob muttered, “Then.”

Joe went on, “Yeah, we’re through no chance.”

Suzy insisted, “Don’t say that. Don’t even think it. Look, ask him exactly where he is.”

Joe asked, “Just where are you Bob? Do you know?”

Bob replied, “It’s hard to say. I was out cold when he brought me here to some kind of a hall. It’s like a passageway with a cement floor ceiling and stone walls. There doesn’t seem to be any door opening or anything like that.”

Joe informed, “That’s what I thought here too but there must be one, or how would he have gotten you in there. Listen start looking and see if you can find it.”

Bob agreed, “That’s true I never thought of that. If I do find the door, and it opens into where you are. Then…”

Joe butted in, “That’s right three of us together. We’ll surely be able to figure something out then.”

Bob informed, “Hold on I’ll start pounding on the walls, and you can see if you hear anything.”

Joe instructed, “Go ahead.”

Suzy asked, “What’s he doing?”

Joe explained, “He’s going to knock on the walls to see if he’s anywhere near us. If he is then we might hear him. Then if he can find a door we can get together. You hear anything Suzan?”

Hearing a faint knocking Suzy replied, “I’m not sure, maybe.”

Joe divulged, “I’m not sure either sounds awful far away. Listen, that wall right there. Hello, hello Bob, yes we heard you you’re right next to us. Now Bob you listen and Suzan will knock back. Go ahead Suzan that way Bob will be able to tell just which wall it is.”

Bob declared, “Okay, I hear it. I know where it is. Now to find the door if there is one.”

Joe affirmed, “Hold on, he’s got it. He’s going to see if there’s a door there.”

Suzy insisted, “There must be one there must be.”

Joe called out. “Bob Bob hello.”

Suzy inquired, “What is it?”

Joe replied, “I don’t know. I heard oh it hurts. Then a moan.”

Suzy cried, “Joe look there’s a door and its opening. It’s open.”

Joe stuttered, “It’s you Dr. Hamilton.”

The Doctor exclaimed, “Why yes. Who were you expecting?”

Back at the Hotel Origin had put away the ghost horses, and Kathy went back to bed. Kathy lay in bed thinking about what to do. This was something she had never expected. Kathy knew when someone dies unexpectedly. Often they can’t let go right away. That means they have unfinished business, or perhaps they feel they need to get a message to a loved one before they cross over. Sometimes they believe that once they cross over they won’t be able to make contact.

This was not the case with this couple. The fact is they don’t know they are dead yet. They are experiencing lucid dream phenomena. That means somehow Kathy needs to get then to see the light. Then get them to go into that light. Kathy knew she might have to call an Angel or an Archangel to assist her by either escorting the spirit across the threshold, or helping her help them pass over. Having never done this Kathy wasn’t sure what to do.

She decided to just wait until morning and maybe they would be gone. Then she wouldn’t have to deal with it. Then she slipped off to sleep.

Standing in the darkness of the strange room Joe and Suzan stare at the tall figure of Dr. Hamilton. He was silhouetted against the dim light from outside as he asked, “I asked you whether you were expecting someone?”

Suzy spoke up, “Then it was just a trick. It was you on the phone all the time.”

Joe declared, “No, don’t you think I’d know his voice. Where is our friend Bob?”

The Doctor insisted, “Right outside.”

Joe demanded, “What did you do to him? Answer me, what did you do to him?”

The Doctor asked, “Don’t you know?”

Joe replied, “Sure I know, you killed him! Did you kill him?”

The Doctor laughed, “Quite a state you’ve gotten yourself into. Is it because you finally tried to do something about your predicament and you failed, or is it because you weren’t sure whether I would kill or not, and because you still don’t know?”

Suzy exclaimed, “You’re insane. You’ve gone mad.”

The Doctor went on, “You’ll be interested to know. You have not done nor will you do one thing that I did not foresee. Every move you made every emotion you felt was charted, and outlined.”

Then a bell was ringing and Joe demanded, “What’s that?”

The Doctor revealed, “That I think is probably the Police.”

Joe exclaimed, “The Police!”

The Doctor went on, “Yes, I know that you’re very anxious to talk to them, and I’ll see that you get a chance to.”

The Doctor went to the door, “Good evening officer.”

The Policeman inquired, “I’m looking for a guy named Dr. Hamilton.”

The Doctor replied, “I’m Dr. Hamilton. Please come in won’t you.”

The Policeman replied, “Okay thanks, this is a kind of a funny business. It’s about a phone call we got a while ago. We finally traced it here to a guy who said he was a prisoner or something.”

The Doctor insisted, “That must have been Watson.”

The Policeman disclosed, “Yeah, that’s his name Joe Watson. Do you know him?”

The Doctor informed, “Of course, I can’t tell you how sorry I am. It was really very careless of me, and I’ll see that it doesn’t happen again.”

The Policeman questioned, “What do you mean?”

The Doctor explained, “If you did the investigating. Which I’m sure you did. Then you know that I um. Well I don’t run a sanitarium exactly, but I do take a few patients in. Most of them are mental cases for treatment.”

The Policeman said, “Ah, so that’s it a nut.”

The Doctor insisted, “I wish you wouldn’t say that Watson’s case is particularly interesting. A 4f who wasn’t able to enlist and he developed a persecution Mania.”

The Policeman mumbled, “Oh Mania he thinks that everyone is down on him.”

The Doctor explained, “Not everyone exactly. His present fantasy is that he’s an ex-Gi and that I’m keeping him prisoner.

The Policeman sighed, “Sure some are plenty tough. Well I guess I’ll run along. I’m sorry I bothered you.”

The Doctor asked, “Don’t you want to see them first officer? Talk to them?”

The Policeman replied, “Ah there’s no need of that Doctor. We get calls from cranks every day. We always investigate.”

The Doctor insisted, “But I insist after all you only have my word for it. Uh, um, well there’s just one thing. I’d like to caution you about.”

The Policeman maintained, “Oh sure I know. I’ll play along.”

The Doctor urged, “Then come right in here.”

The Policeman declared, “It’s quite a room.”

Suzy called out, “Joe look it’s a cop.”

Joe exclaimed, “Then that means you did get my message.”

The Policeman assured, “Sure, sure Joe, took a little time to trace the call, but everything’s okay.”

Joe ranted, “Oh thank heaven it was such a screwy story. I was afraid that they. Wait a minute. Then why is he standing there like that? Why haven’t you got the bracelets on him?”

The Policeman explained, “He assured me no need for any rough stuff. He said he’d come along quietly.”

Suzy complained, “What! You’re lying I don’t know why, but there’s something wrong here… I know you think we made the whole thing up, but we’re not crazy. It’s not true.

Joe barked, “He told you we were crazy and you believed him.”

The Policeman insisted, “Of course not.”

Joe insisted, “Stop that! Stop saying that! If I could only prove it somehow, I know… Bob! Murder, that’ll open your eyes. Somewhere in that wall is a door. Make him open it and show you what’s behind it.”

The Policeman uttered, “I think maybe I’d better be going Doc.”

The Doctor revealed, “But there is a door there officer. Just a second I’ll open it for you. Here we are.”

Suzy exclaimed, “Joe the body, it’s gone.”

The Doctor explained, “He thinks we’re always hiding the bodies.”

The Policeman joked, “If it turns up again later give us another call. Maybe I shouldn’t have said that. Can I go out this way?”

The Doctor advised, “Go down to the end of the corridor. Then go to your right. I’m sorry I gave you all this trouble.”

The Policeman advised, “That’s perfectly all right.”

The Doctor answered, “Thank you for being so understanding.”

The Policeman smiled, “Quite all right, goodbye.’

The Doctor replied, “Goodbye.”

Then the doctor went back in the room, “Well children.”

Suzy requested, “Don’t look that way. Joe don’t. I know what you’re thinking and it’s not true.

Joe theorized, “We’re not crazy there was a body there, Of course you hid it when you went out to let the cop in. Then there was the telephone. You left that here purposely. You wanted me to use it to get the police here.”

The Doctor smiled, “Obviously I told you that this was to be an experiment in fear. What I didn’t tell you was that in a sense. I was one of the subjects too. It was important for me to learn how I would function under pressure and speak objectively. I think I did rather well don’t you?”

Suzy insisted, “Why are you doing all this? What are you after?”

The Doctor explained, “There’s no reason why I shouldn’t tell you. If anyone truly understands the nature of fear they are able accurately to forecast the actions and reactions of an individual. Then he can use fear as a weapon. Society will react as the individual reacts you see. Society doesn’t want to believe that anything can Menace. It doesn’t want to take action to protect itself any more than the individual does. This was something that Hitler and Mussolini understood. Intuitively I understand it scientifically they failed, but I shall succeed.

Joe muttered, “You, you mean that you.”

The Doctor cut Joe off, “I’m afraid that’s all I have time for, as far as you two are concerned the experiment is finished. Completely finished, I have a few arrangements to take care of and then… Uh well make the best of these last few minutes for they will be your…Last.

Suzy asked, “Joe do you hear anything? Is he coming back?”

Joe replied, “Not yet.”

Suzy asked, “He’s going to kill us isn’t he? Just the way he killed Bob.

Joe replied, “He’s going to try to.”

Suzy inquired, “Why are you sitting there like that looking at me.”

Joe admitted, “I guess because it’s the first chance I’ve had to look at you.”

Suzy questioned, “How do you mean.”

Joe explained, “When they first put you in here. It was all dark, and so many things happened after that. It’s funny.”

Suzy asked, “What’s funny?”

Joe went on, “The things that you can tell about a person even in the dark. I kind of thought you were little, and I knew you were awful nice. I thought you had a lot of nerve, but I didn’t think you’d be so pretty.”

Suzy insisted, “I’m not so pretty Joe. I’m not very brave either. I’m scared, I’m awful scared and I don’t want to die.”

Joe assured, “Don’t worry about it Suzan don’t think about it.”

Suzy went on, “Just sitting here like this waiting, and there’s nothing we can do. Every time we did try to do something it was something he knew about, or was expecting us to do.”

Joe insisted, “Please Suzan.”

Suzy continued, “Joe something happened to you. You were scared before too, but it was the not knowing that was scary. The not knowing what was going to happen or why. Then what you could do about it, but once you do know. You make up your mind then you’ve got to forget about it. Forget about everything you made up your mind about.”

Joe smiled, “This is going to sound kind of funny. Especially now, but well do you have anyone special like a fellow?”

Suzy affirmed, “I’m married to the best guy ever. If I called him right now he come and save me from this, but I was sent here to save you.”

Joe laughed, “It’s a shame we never met before. If we had we wouldn’t be here now.”

Suzy insisted, “Didn’t you hear me? I was sent here to save you.”

Joe reasoned, “I know what you’re trying to do, but it’s alright. I’ve faced fear before. This time is no different.”

Suzy announced, “I hear something. He’s coming.”

Joe replied, “Yeah, okay get up over in the corner of the room, so that he’ll see you as soon as he opens the door.”

Suzy inquired, “What about you?”

Joe replied, “I’ll be waiting over here behind the door.”

Suzy hinted, “Joe you’re not going…”

Joe muttered, “Yeah I know I haven’t got much of a chance, but, well wish me luck. It’ll be quick anyway.”

Suzy stood and insisted, “Oh no Joe please.’

The Doctor announced, “All right my young friends. Time all my arrangements have been completed and I’m…Where’s Watson?”

Jumping at the Doctor Joe yelled, “Right here!”

Then there was a, “Boom,” as Suzy yelled, “By the power of Njal I command time to stop.”

Time stopped and Suzy walked over to Joe and the Doctor. There stood Joe right in front of the Doctor. With the gun pointed at his chest. The bullet had just left the barrel of the gun, and it was hanging in the air about two inches from Joe’s chest. Suzy thought, Boy I was about two inches from screwing up.

Then Suzy called out, “By the power of Njal I command Jim to appear.”

Then there stood Jim in his underwear. Suzy snickered, “I’m on a Journey, and have to save this guy right here.”

Jim replied, “You sure you didn’t want to make it a little closer.”

Then Jim took his finger, and pushed the bullet up over Joe’s head and said, “I see the other one has red eyes. I’m going to go get dressed and I’ll be back.”

In a flash Jim appeared and Suzy asked, “Is Albert coming?”

Jim replied, “Nope.”

Then Suzy heard the pounding sound of the Helicopter, and saw Wind Walker walking to the door with a noose in his hand. Flipping the noose over the Demon’s head Wind Walker informed, “We can do this together. I got the back.”

Then Wind Walker made a ball of bright flashing colored light, and slammed it into his back, as Suzy did the same to his chest. Then Wind Walker jumped back as the rope pulled tight. The Demon leaped off its feet and flew backwards, as it was dragged out the door. Wind walker followed behind the Demon calling out, “Back to Hell with you Demon.”

Then a black cloud in the shape of a hideous monster slipped into the ground, as the Helicopter lifted the Demon body in the air and disappeared.

Wind Walker looked at Suzy and smiled, “Nice to work with you again Suzan. Tell your Hangman I said not every team needs a Hangman.”

Then Bird Man appeared next to Wind Walker asking, “You ready?”

Wind Walker replied, “Let’s go.”

Then Bird Man put his hand on Wind Walker’s shoulder and they disappeared. Jim asked, “You need a ride back?”

Suzy replied, “No I have to stick around and start time, so I can call the Police and get Joe out of this mess.”

Jim embraced Suzy as she pushed love into him. The he gave her a kiss and said, “I Love you,” and disappeared.”

Suzy went to the phone on the table and called out, “By the power of Njal I command time to start.”

The sound of the gun shot still hung in the air as she heard Joe exclaim, “What the hell! Where did he go?”

Suzy picked up the phone and dialed 0, “Hello, Operator? Can you connect me to the Police? I need to report a murder.”

Suzy heard the phone ringing over the line. Then, “Third precinct headquarters this is Vincent How can I help you.”

Joe was looking around for the Doctor mumbling, as Suzy replied, “This is the crazy woman at the place you sent an Officer to about an hour ago. There has been a murder here and that fake Doctor took off. Now if you don’t have an Officer here in the next ten minutes. I’m getting an attorney and see if I can get rich. I know there’s a greedy bastard out there that would love this case.”

The Officer insisted, “I’m sending someone right now.”

Suzy barked, “Ten minutes, and I leave the scene to find an attorney.”

Then Suzy slammed down the receiver, and went to Joe and exclaimed, “Oh Joe, you’re a real hero. I can’t believe you did it. You knock the gun out of his hand, and beat the crap out of him. Look there is the gun over there on the floor.”

Joe was dumbfounded, “Where did he go?”

Suzy replied, “I don’t know. After you punched him in the face he took off out the door.”

Joe questioned, “I did?”

Suzy stepped close to Joe and kissed him on the cheek as she pushed Love in his back. Then she whispered, “Don’t worry Joe. Any gal would be lucky to have you. You’ll find someone.”

Then a Police Officer came in the door. Suzy put her arm out pushing Joe behind her, and pointed at the gun with her other hand. Then she exclaimed, “Right there is the gun he tried to kill us with.”

Then another Officer came in right behind him. He turned and ordered, “Call it in Tom. We have a gun.”

Then more Police Officer’s showed up and did a search. They found Bob’s body in a closet. They took Suzy’s statement, and treated Joe with respect taking his statement.

Then Suzy was standing with Najl on a beach with palm trees behind them. Najl looked out over the ocean and spoke softly, “Oh my dear child. Why did you wait so long to stop the Demon?”

Suzy replied, “I was sent there to save Joe, and send the Demon back to Hell. Joe was in no danger until that last moment, and I could send the Demon back anytime.”

Najl went on, “You almost waited too long to save Joe. I had to help you a little. I’m giving you a power Kathy has learned. Just yell STOP! Then time will stop. You’ll still have to use me to start time, but I think it is better this way.”

Suzy inquired, “Well how did I do?”

Najl laughed a deep laugh, “You did what you do well. The Demon went back to Hell didn’t it?”

Suzy whispered, “Yes.”

Najl answered, “Then what more could I ask for? Now show me you can fly.”

Then Suzy shot up in the air as Najl’s voice echoed in her head, “Job well done faithful servant.”

Then she awoke to the sounds of Victoria in the kitchen.

Down at the Hotel Kathy walked down the hall to the last room on the right. Looking in she saw the man and wife were gone, and it looked as if nothing had ben touched. She walked back down the hall stopping at Origin’s door. Then she pointed her finger at Origin and shot a little spark at her. Then called out, time to get up.

Albert and Jim were getting ready to head out when Albert asked, “You coming today Suzy?”

Suzy replied, “No, I think Henry is a lot better now, and Kathy can handle whatever happens. I’m staying here with Rebecca and Bella. I might go to the Dress Shop later.”

With that Jim and Albert went to the Jail. In the Jail Jim was starting a fire and asked, “How come we’re hanging out in the Jail Albert. It’s nice and warm over at the Hotel.”

Albert explained, “I need you to take me to Lambert. I want to see Alexander the county commissioner. I want to see if he can find a report on the murder at the Watson place.”

Jim blew out the match and looked out the window. The snow was lightly coming down as he said, “Screw the fire. I’ll just take us now.”

Then Jim blinked them to the alley in Lambert. Jim mumbled, “I wonder where Anvil is in the winter?”

Albert replied, “I’m sure he’s somewhere warm with a bottle.”

They went to the County offices to find the county commissioner. Albert saw Alexander and asked, “How are you doing?”

Alexander replied, “Good until you showed up.”

Jim asked, “Why’s that?”

Alexander informed, “Every time I see him it cost money.”

Albert smiled, “Well today is your lucky day. I’m just looking for some information. I’m working on a murder case, and I need to know what day the Watson murder happened.”

Alexander complained, “What the hell dose that have to do with a murder now?”

Albert advised, “That is the murder I’m investigating. I got new information. I found the Daughter’s body. Well her bones anyway.”

Alexander insisted, “I don’t have to look that up. I remember it like it was yesterday. Bazar it was. It happened after a party on New Year’s Eve. Dennis was the Sheriff then. He hated it that he could never solve that one. Everyone thought it was the Daughter that did it. Then she ran off with someone, but not Dennis. He was sure it had to be a man.”

Albert asked, “What year was that?”

Alexander informed, “It was ten years ago almost to the day December 31, 1866. We just passed the anniversary three days ago.”

Jim put his hand over his mouth. Then mumbled, “Isn’t that the day Seig…”

Albert butted in, “Yep it sure is. Thanks Alexander that is all I need to know.”

Alexander complained, “Is that all you wanted?”

Albert replied, “Yep.”

Alexander questioned, “You mean you and your Deputy road all the way over in the cold and snow for that?”

Albert insisted, “Sure did, and now I might be able to find out who did it.”

Alexander laughed, “Good luck with that one.”

Then Jim and Albert headed back. In the alley Albert insisted, “Take us to the Jail Jim.”

At the Jail Albert insisted, “We need to go next door to the Hotel. I need to talk to Kathy.”

Jim queried, “You don’t want me to take you to the murder do you?”

Albert replied, “Yep, I sure do. I want to see who did it, but we have to have Kathy make us invisible first. Now let’s go.”

Coming in the door the smell of the Soda bread filled the air. Henry was sitting across from Origin trying to teach her checkers. Kathy and Seig were cuddled at the end of the table drinking coffee. Albert requested, “Kathy can we see you for a minute?”

They walked down the hall and Albert whispered, “Shoot us. Then meet us at the Jail in about ten minutes.”

Kathy shot a little spark at them, and went back to the Hotel lobby. Seig asked, “What did he want?”

Kathy replied, “They just want me to sweep out the Jail sometime today.”

Out behind the Hotel Jim put his hand on his book and said, “Take me to the Watson murder in December of 1866.”

Then in a flash they were standing in the doorway of the room Seig saw the murder. Albert barked, “Truck on!”

Jim exclaimed, “Oh nooo! It’s Frank!”

Albert insisted, “It sure is Frank Eicherman the Barber. I never would have thought it would be him.”

Jim asked, “Now what?”

Albert replied, “I don’t know. I’ll have to think about it. I’ll start time and you can blink us back. Truck off.”

Then Jim blinked them to the Jail. Then they waited for Kathy to make them visible again. Jim lit the fire as he asked, “What you going to do Albert?”

Albert replied, “Wish I never found out. Hell, I don’t have any evidence. I can’t go into court and say I traveled back in time and watched him do it. I have no idea what to do. All I can say is you better watch him when he shaves you.”

Jim confessed, “I’m growing a beard like Henry.”

On May 22, 2023 I made the first post on the thread “The Truck the Witch and the Blacksmith.” It took me a year to write that first book, and two days to post it. Since then I have written two more books with over 120,000 words. Book Two was 139, 952 words. OMG I never thought it would be posable. Because of you I have learned to spell a lot better. I only google about a tenth of the words I did when I started. I can even almost type. It’s a good thing Google don’t charge for looking up how to spell words. I would have had to take out a mortgage on our home.

I still look up a lot of words, but it feels good when I find I had it right. When I went through and cleaned them up a laughed a lot. I thought why didn’t anyone say anything? Boy I found some real boners. There were lots of late nights and early mornings for me. As the story got bigger I had to make cheat sheets to keep track. Names almost fifty characters between the two towns, dates, and places, (I had to make maps to keep them strait). I learned that it was easier if I made an outline for the book. The next chapter on the outline is Albert’s first wife.

I thought some would say something about some of the chapters. Like when I had Albert dreaming he was an Indian, or the far out one about the Box. I had fun doing those.

I have written about the early life of Jim and Suzy, and Kathy from the time she was a girl. But I have never told you about Albert before. You know how they came to know him. I told you his wife’s name was Adeline and she died from smallpox, but that is all I reveled about him. Well I had it in this Forth book to start telling about his life. I just thought it was not fair to not share some of that part of his life with you. Chapter Five will have how he met his wife. I’m going to post it in the Private Section. I will call it “Albert tells a story.”

Its 28 pages witch comes to 7 posts. The question is, do you want me to post it all at once, or one a day for a week. I’ve noticed that is how some do it, a little at a time. Just so you know I had to look up how to spell, “noticed.” I’ll be waiting for your response.

Joe

P.S. This will bring understanding to why the Chief sent the White Woman to Albert.
