Worker dies at Long Island Wal-Mart after being trampled in Black Friday stampede

BY JOE GOULD
DAILY NEWS WRITER

A worker died after being trampled and a woman miscarried when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island Wal-Mart Friday morning, witnesses said.

The unidentified worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.

Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.

"He was bum-rushed by 200 people," said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too...I literally had to fight people off my back."

Nassau County Police are still investigating and would not confirm the witness accounts. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. Police did say there were several injuries but weren't more specific.

Jessica Keyes was among the shoppers. She told the Daily News she saw a woman knocked down just a few feet from the dying worker.

"When the paramedics came, she said 'I'm pregnant,'" Keyes said.

Paramedics treated the woman inside the store and then, according to Keys, told the woman:

"There's nothing we can do. The baby is gone."

Before police shut down the store, eager shoppers streamed past emergency crews as they worked furiously to save the store clerk's life.

"They were working on him, but you could see he was dead, said Halcyon Alexander, 29. "People were still coming through."

Only a few stopped.

"They're savages," said shopper Kimberly Cribbs, 27. "It's sad. It's terrible."

I think we are truly heading back to the dark ages. Such a thin veneer to "civilization".

Just imagine what will happen when the food shortages start next year. Change the cause from "greed" to "hunger".

I was wondering how the Black Friday Massacre was going. Lots of bet tables out there as to the number killed in the massacre.

Boy ain't that the truth! I cannot believe how people get so caught up in this consumerism.......I hope it was worth it to all those that contributed to these tragedies.

How can getting a good deal possibly be worth this? How incredibly sad! And then to see that people didn't even have the good in them to stop when they see someone hurt. It makes me sick to my stomach.

I'm speechless. I feel like I should respond somehow to this, but I don't even know what to say. This is almost unbelievable.

People can be like animals when they think there is even a small chance someone will beat them to something they want. I notice this on the highways a lot. Some people are so afraid that someone else is going to get in "their" lane or some can't even stand the thought of another motorist passing them. I don't know what makes some people like this. Maybe it's just yet another sign of the times.

My goats and chickens act like this, but they are animals. You expect it out of them. Would they go so far as to trample one another to death? I don't know.

I just hope and pray that there were some security cameras somewhere that caught something. I hope there is justice for these two deceased people and the mother.

Sad. Pathetic. Disgusting.

A report from my sister at our local Walmart; Fights broke out over televisions and $149.00 digital cameras were on the same pallet as the $79.00digital cameras and this caused major disputes at check-out. She said that people were very different this year in their behavior, almost had a desperate air about them. She did note that most baskets only had the sales items in them.

I lived in Valley Stream for 25 of my 41 years. During college, I worked in the mall complex where that Wal-Mart is located. Although my sister and her family and my parents still live in Valley Stream, the western part of the village is now a suburban ghetto.

The clientele of the mall is made up of "undesirables" from Brooklyn and Queens. There is a movie theater in that complex that became the first on Long Island to install metal detectors.

Let's just say i'm not surprised that something like this happened there.

Exactly!

Never underestimate the inhumanity of mob mentality.

Imagine, working at WalMart for minimum wage and dying for it. Sad.

as for the people this is a stark reminder of how evil people can be over simple possesstions these people wouldn't fight this hard for a human life but for a cheap DVD there all about it.

people in general make me sick if it where not for stories like the one of the termially ill boy i would totally give up on the human race.:sldr::sheep:

I'm going to bet this is the last year we see this sort of rush at WalMart. They are setting themselves up for too much legal liability. They have had injuries in years past and any reasonable person would conclude that it was just a matter of time before something tragic like this happened. This will go away just like Dominos Pizza's 30 minute delivery guarantee.

It they want to put some sort of limited quantity sale items in the store, they will have to come up with a lottery system or something along those lines to prevent the mass rush of people fighting each other to get there first.

Yesterday, D'Anne brought home the Thursday paper with all the black Friday ads. I read through EVERY AD, front to back. I didn't see ONE THING that I "had to have." And anyone that buys electronics at Walmart is a fool. Even though the brand name and model number is the same as an identical unit purchased from a store other than Walmart, the quality of the electronic components is MUCH LOWER. That's because of the predatory tactics used by Walmart in their vendor price negotiations.

NEVER buy electronics at Walmart. Ever.

This scripture comes to mind as people have no reguard for their fellow man and think about money as their prime objective.

2 Timothy 3:1 You should also know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times.

2Ti 3:2 For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred.

2Ti 3:3 They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control; they will be cruel and have no interest in what is good.

2Ti 3:4 They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God.

The one lady that knocked the door down should be charged IMO.
Freakin psycho. Just to save a few bucks.
This is why I don't do Black Friday.

I've seen grown adults snatch toys out of kids' hands at Walmart at Christmas time. And people wonder why I hate Christmas.

As is usually the case, the MSM didn't cover this on the morning shows at 7 CA time. I heard about it here first. Disgusting.

There is NOTHING that I want bad enough to go to any Black Friday sale at 5 a.m.! If I really wanted and needed it, I would rather pay the full price than deal with the beasts present at those sales.

I was thinking the same thing.. this is exactly what they will do if they are hungry and know you have food. This is another reason why you cannot survive solo in a urban enviroment. You need help to establish a perimeter.

Brings a whole new meaning to "loss leader".

However, I'm not sure this is a harbinger of the end just yet, as we hear these same stories every year.

Frankly, I wonder about the sanity of anyone who would go to a big box store on the busiest shopping day of the year, much less line up for the opening and work themselves into a lather. Talk about allowing yourself to be herded by cheap marketing ploys.

I went to a local lowes store a few years back during an ice storm. Here in south carolina people freek out when we get ice and or snow. I just wanted to see if I could pick up a few extra propane botttles just in case the power was to stay out for any length of time. I left early because of bad roads not knowing for sure what I might encounter as far as bad traffic and was there an hour before they opened. This was the first day stores , for the most part, had opened since the ice had started. As people showed up I stood at the door to wait for it to open. Soon the crowd behind me had grown to at least one hundred or more. When a clerck started tward the door everyone started pushing us at the front into the glass. I am fairly big at 6foot 1 and at the time about two hundred twenty pounds yet I could not move. I imediately told the cleck to get away from the door and do not open it or someone would most likely be hurt. At first she almost ingnored me and started to unlock the door so I hollerd DO NOT OPEN THAT DOOR! She got the point and backed off. I then had to litteraly cuse like a sailor for several minutes to get these fools to back up enough that we could get off the glass.

You have to understand in south carolina when there is even mention of any snow what soever the stores are imediatly stripped of all bread and milk. People here are scared to death for the most part to drive in it. Also the climate is somewhat mild so no preps are made for power outages or closed roads. At this time we had been out of power for several days and no news as to when it would be restored as we had a bad ice storm and most of the area of our state and north carolina were out of power. People were getting desperate and there were no fueled heat sources of any kind left in any stores that I or anyone I had talked to had been. The was a very small oriental woman standing next to me with her 5 or 6 year old child. they were there in hopes of getting a kerosene heater. I strongly urged her to get through that door and out of the way as quick as it opened but she made her way for the heaters that could be seen a good ways from the front door. I stepped inside and jumped to the side to let the crazy crowd through. A very wealthy looking well dressed man grabbed her head and shoved her out of the way as he passed her to get to the heaters then she managed to get to the cans of kerosene and he and he again shoved her and he grabbed the can she was trying to get. I wanted to kick his a%$. This was just a fraction of the pushing grabbing and whatnot that was going on but my main focus was on that little boy as i felt sure he was going to get hurt but somehow he was bounced around but never got hurt. After what i had just witnessed i just went right back out the door i had enterd and went back home. We had plenty I just realy wanted to get out a little bit and that was the best excuse I could come up with.

Trust me, if you ever find yourself in that situation, get as far away from the door as possible. The force of all those people pushing was unbelievable and the inability to get them to back off was unamaginable. They all wanted in and would not budge without me acting totaly irate to get a reaction. The crowed seemed harmless until the clerk started tward that door at that point it was on and these people were crazy. If i had not reacted as I did there would very likely have been someone hurt .

Pure and simple animals - it's what far too many people have become anymore. The spirit of anything good and divine has been driven out of them by their own greed and the belief the world is centered around them. I hope they can identify and charge these people with the crimes they did. And all of this lunacy for a few cheap pieces of junk. Was it really that important to save what is, really, an insignificant sum of money?

First blame, though, has to be on Walmart. They have caused this before and the company seems to look forward to this kind of anarchy for attention. They deliberately understock these attention grabbing items, knowing full well that the store and employees may be in danger from nothing more than a mob hell-bent to get the junk. They display the stuff in a way that it encourages a mob to form around the item after that mob has waited at the doors for hours just looking to burst in like a tidal wave. I remember a few years ago when they had an unheard of price on laptops, the same things happened and Walmart seemed to enjoy the attention the mayhem in their stores got from the media. Why is that company never charged as an accomplice in these murders and injuries?

And all this done to supposedly "celebrate" the birth of a "Man of Peace".

I think we've seen a glimpse of our coming future. If the mob will kill for junk gimmicks, imagine when that mob is wanting food or medicine or gasoline. Imagine that mob at your door.

The fate of the nation hangs in the balance of Christmas shopping sales. If sales aren't good, your going to see retailers - and especially small businesses - fold like accordions in the New Year. The big box stores will get in line for their handouts from the dem/repub Communists infesting D.C.

In such a case we will easily be at 25%+ unemployment.

Human Resource stampedes for material goods.... the additional sweet success and irony for our globalist masters is that it's a Christmas that now primarily excludes Jesus Christ, or throws him in with bogus debaucheries like Kawanza.

This is whay you prep and do not allow yourself to be put in situations like this.

Five or six years ago my roomie wanted to do the black friday thing. Knowing my balance and the fat he was overweight with a bad knee [used a cane himself] I said 'Nope-not going to happen as I would likely start shooting people if they started pushing me or getting assy."

My wife just called me. She's been at Kohls and Toys r Us this morning. She has seen two heated verbal altercations and one fistfight in the 3 hours she has been out. She also said that the stores are packed. She tried to go into a Bed, Bath & Beyond, but it was so crowded, she didn't bother.

She said the stores are far more busy than they were last year.

Sadly though you may end up in this situation as I did (see post above by tm1439m about lowes). It started out totaly haremless and as people gatherd they just stood around talking. It was actualy a great time until the cleck went for that door. Then is when the people got crazy and in seconds there was no way out for anyone anywhere near that door as people were pushing from all directions wanting at that door.

You are correct though there is no sence in going to a black fiday event early and getting stuck in the heard all just to try and save a few bucks.
