GOV/MIL Cops raid home & private poker game -Take money, arrest nobody. Govt Shakedowns for funds?

ainitfunny

Saved, to glorify God.
Where do we draw the line? This isn't a business, a church, a bar, or a commercial establishment. Your private poker game in your home is now labeled an "underground" gambling operation. Raiding HOMES and friendly poker games? Are we supposed to be grateful the cops did not call the home a "compound". Where does the government's nose, militaristic SWAT TEAMS and police NOT belong? SURE SOUNDS LIKE A POLICE SHAKEDOWN TO ME.

I expected to see a disastrously failing economy to push desperate people with few ethics to start kidnapping people for ransom, BUT IT JUST OCCURRED TO ME that our own government may escalate their rapaciousness predations on the people to, in the future, kidnapping people ("who can afford to pay") ransom, ("fines") on various trumped up charges satisfiable with large "fines" OR held in JAIL(Hostage) till their loved ones PAY.

KNOXVILLE - Knox County Sheriff's Office deputies raided yet another allegedly illegal gambling operation Wednesday night.

The latest raid targeted a poker game inside a private residence in the Bexhill subdivision in West Knox County, according to a KCSO spokeswoman Ashley Haynes.

Deputies discovered eight people around one poker table at 1304 Buxton Drive, and seized approximately $1,000 cash, Haynes said.

No arrests were made, but all information was turned over the Knox County District Attorney General's Office for possible charges, she said.

The raid follows at least seven other such operations carried out by KCSO within the past five weeks, targeting underground poker games and businesses operating video poker machines.

More details as they develop online and in Friday's News Sentinel.

Not surprised at all, they knew about it obviously and I easily doubt they seized just $1000 but that is only what they reported. I'm sure the rest of the bootie got split up evenly amongst the arresting officers. V

Isn't this why they invented poker chips? Leave nothing but chips on the table and cash in at the end of the night and no one can prove anything if they bust in mid-game.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that Jesus was silent on the subject of poker games.

I'm betting with people getting more and more hooked on things like the lottery, and online gambling, that they are starting this to both improve their odds, but also not have to pay any overages to the online sites. I'm also betting that they are running adverts on sites like craigslist, or it's word of mouth, and somebody at a previous bust blabs about all of the other ones they know about.

They should play with monopoly money, and if the cops show up, tell them that they are playing with the other fake money, because it is worth more.

What all of this really boils down to, is that the government does not want other people making money without the government getting their cut. If you want to be shocked, do some research on how much money the government takes in total on the "state" lotteries. Everything from the obvious, the taxes on the winners, to the percentage of every ticket bought, to the amount that they are giving to their school systems (only to lower the amount from the general fund by the same amount, effectively making it "go into the general fund anyway"). And a LOT of that money that is spent on lottery tickets, comes from the welfare system, so it's just more taxes on the people that are feeding that system.

As the bumper sticker says, "Don't steal, the government hates competition!".

The Sheriff's Department is probably busting private poker games they know have been going on for some time. If they know who's participating, it's pretty easy for them to figure out who's hosting this week's game.

Many such gatherings are regular occurrences, with many of the same participants showing up each time. If any of the participants have any level of name recognition at all in their community, it won't be long before everybody in town knows when and where the poker game will be. It may be a matter of standing common knowledge among the citizenry.

This is especially true is small towns. In one small community near here (Southeast Texas), some prominent local citizens get together once a month to stay up all night and play poker. The game has a rotating venue; the participants take turns hosting it, and it's held on a regular schedule. There's a restauranteur, the primary local attorney and a few other guys, the youngest of whom is probably 60 years of age. One of these guys is fully 88 years old. Since all these fellows are either retired or self-employed, they'll each take the day before the poker game off so that they can rest up for it.

Now, I know this about this much about this poker game not from living in the town myself, but merely doing business over there. If I wanted to know who was hosting the poker game this month, it would not be very difficult to find out. All I'd have to do is ask one of the locals, because just about all of them would know where these guys are playing this month.

If I know this much about a local poker game in another city where I don't even live, imagine what the local police and sheriff know about it.

They probably know how much everybody won and lost, and who fell asleep before the last hand.

Cardinal you're naughty. I am wondering if the take actually went into the pot for the town coffers. or.....Well you can wonder too.
It makes me wonder if it is legal to sell the goods that the airlines take from the passengers before they board their planes. I will be willing to bet lots and lots get put into personal pockets. I know I am paranoid.

looks like they're collecting on a regular basis:

Knox County officers have conducted their seventh gambling-related operation in June, seizing about $3,500 from a Chapman Highway establishment.

Officers on Wednesday night found gaming tables when they raided the building at 3607 Chapman Highway, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office alleged the poker business was operating from a vacant-looking storefront with no signs in a retail area.

No one was arrested and the Sheriff's Office did not disclose if anyone was in the building when officers arrived. The Sheriff's Office release stated information gathered during the raid will be shared with the Knox County District Attorney General for possible charges.

Officers on June 1 began raiding alleged gambling locations when officers entered a business at 7311 Asheville Highway and seized about $42,000 in cash. On June 8, officers confiscated about $4,000 during a raid at a suspected gambling operation at 8705 Unicorn Drive. Officers also have seized video poker machines from three businesses.

No arrests have been made in any of the raids.

$1,000 seized. And how much did the raid cost taxpayers?

So everybody lost a small amount of poker money and no one got arrested. These poker games need to be illegal entry parties instead.

So what is going on in Tennessee? Are these isolated cases or what?

This is the second thread in as many months about Tn police going over the line, appearing to fishing for money. Last thread was searching cars and confiscating cash on the assumption is could be drug money.

Hard times in local governments. TN local and State Gov have realized they can not raise taxes, and tax revenue is way down due to loss of jobs. Lots of inventive thinking going on as to how to raise more money.

Don't even think of speeding if you come this way.

Just wait till they bust in on a tobacco smoking party-this is getting to be like the depression and the speakeasies with a hot rod fast tracking the evil weed to the big city....(tobacco, not the other kind)
Good grief.
