Got this request from a friend...did find the tb2k thread on vitamin A helping with emphysema and sent it to him. If anyone has anything else that might help, I ask your permission to cc&p this thread and also forward to him. Thanks, my dad died of this disease...

Does someone have something in thier medicine bag for this? Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease has taken one of my co-workers
and another has been off work for over 3 years. Now a new friend from one of my cooking groups has stated she has few
months to live, at most, per her doctors. The m.d.'s are filling her up with meds that seem to make her condition worse. She is on oxygen 24/7 and she is sickened by 'the cures' she has to take.
**Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated. * TIA *

Following is a quote from a very long article. Would recommend she take the time to read the entire page

http://www.plantasmedicinales.org/abstract/may2003/Echinacea%20sp%20(equinacea).htm

.........Patients with COPD are helped by exercise,
pulmonary rehabilitation, and increased caloric protein and fat intake. Vitamin
C and n-3 supplements are safe and reasonable; however, studies are needed to
establish their efficacy in COPD. On the other hand, there are convincing data
in favor of N-acetyl-cysteine supplementation for the patient with COPD at doses
ranging between 400 and 1200 mg daily. Red blood cell magnesium levels may guide
the use of magnesium replacement. The use of L-carnitine and coenzyme Q10 in
patients with COPD needs further study. The addition of essential oils to the
dietary regimen of patients with chronic bronchitis is worth exploring. Patients
with upper respiratory tract infections can expect a shorter duration of
symptoms by taking high doses of of vitamin C (2 g) with zinc supplements,
preferably the nasal zinc gel, at the onset of their symptoms. Adding an herb
such as echinacea or Andrographis shortens the duration of the common cold. The
one study on Elderberry's use for the flu was encouraging, and the data on the
homeopathic remedy Oscillococcinum interesting, but more studies should be
performed. Saline washes may be helpful to patients with allergic rhinitis and
chronic sinusitis.

You also might add some Aerobic 7 to their water several times a day to help increase blood oxygen and help them feel better and more coherent.

Aerobic 7 is the "oxygen drops" that everyone was putting in their water to store it before Y2K. You can buy it online or at most health food stores. It runs about $15 for a 2 oz bottle, but that is about a month's supply for one person. I usually add 5 drops to each glass of water that I drink but I do drink a lot of water. A friend of mine gives it to her mother who was getting rather senile and she is back at her quilting group again. She still forgets a lot, but is much better than she was. She is using about 20 drops a day. Hope this helps.
