Containing Ebola, Exposing Political Correctness
Posted by Staff

“The blood of Africa runs through our family, so for us the bonds between our countries, our continents are deeply personal,” the President said in August at the African Leaders Summit.

Why wouldn’t the U.S. government, led by Barack Obama, take the prudent steps that several African nations have taken, to contain the Ebola virus by restricting—or at least reexamining our approach to--air travel and border crossings into the U.S.? Britain, France, and most countries throughout southern and central Africa have restricted travel in an effort to isolate the virus, which some medical experts fear may mutate and become more easily transmittable. One theory that I raised for our own government’s resistance to such travel bans, relates to President Obama, Africa, political correctness and liberal guilt. CNN’s leftist but affable Van Jones and other leftist malcontents are shocked that I would raise the President’s “deeply personal" narrative in this discussion. Let me spell it out: In general, most liberals believe that America has a huge duty, indeed a large debt to repay, to the Third World, including Africa, for our past economic, moral, cultural and foreign policy sins. Therefore any liberal – including President Obama, Hillary or Elizabeth Warren – would find it much easier, psychologically, to block flights from England, or France, Israel, or Japan, than to block incoming flights from Africa. Any policy that results in fewer people coming here from the Third World—even if directed at safeguarding the health of the American people, or protecting American jobs and wages— is not one that American liberals can countenance. In fact, such proposals are invariably branded as “xenophobic” or “racist.”

So for the far left, the collective sins of America need to be redeemed. Some of the more infamous sermons of President Obama’s once-favorite preacher Reverend Jeremiah Wright reflected this belief. "At times we have been arrogant, dismissive, even derisive," said President Obama during his 2009 “apology tour,” implicitly referencing the Bush foreign policy. Atoning for our sins—what Barack Obama, Sr. saw as the West’s invidious colonialism—will require that some Americans suffer. Of course when Ebola is concerned, the results could be catastrophic. So be it. And regarding illegal immigration, if millions of poor and working class Americans have lower wages or fewer job opportunities because millions of poor people from other countries wanted to be here, so be it. It’s why most liberal pols don’t do or say much to stop jobs from being shipped overseas. It’s why they won't ever do anything about the border. And it’s why they don't want to stop travel from a few African nations.

CNN needs to quit playing hall monitor, and start hiring some people who can understand an argument.
