Donald Trump had to trade-in his Android tweeting machine for a more secure device

By Chris Smith Published January 20, 2017 BGR

Like President Barack Obama before him, Donald Trump will also have to give up his personal smartphone and replace it with one that the intelligence agencies deem to be secure for the office. In fact, new reports indicate that Donald Trump has already traded in his Galaxy smartphone that he used more than once for tweeting purposes.

Trump this week was forced to give up his Trump 757 plane for an Air Force jet, The New York Times reports, and then he swapped his Android phone for a "secure, encrypted device approved by the Secret Service with a new number that few people possess."

That also means that the usual people who'd call Trump on his personal number won't be able to reach him.

It's unclear at this time whether Trump will be allowed to use any other additional smartphone on top of what he's forced to use as President. It's also unclear how the president will send out tweets now that his phone is gone.

Before Trump, Obama also tried to hold on to his beloved personal phone when he became president, a BlackBerry handset. He was ultimately able to keep it after it had suffered some modifications.

Last summer, President Obama told Jimmy Fallon that he did upgrade to a smartphone since then: A phone that can't call anybody, install apps or take pictures.

Obama also had a phone that he used to tweet, The Associated Press notes, but he rarely hit send on a Tweet himself, and never without coordinating with his staff. The report also said that Obama moved from BlackBerry to an iPhone that let him send and receive emails from a limited group of people and browse the internet.

Obama wasn't known to place or receive calls on his own phone, and all calls were routed through the official White House switchboard instead.

We all have to make sacrifices for work! I can't carry a smart phone or personal laptop/tablet at one of my job sites, due to security issues. That's the way it is. I adjust. I'm sure he can, LOL!

VP Pence sworn in, shaking hands all around right after, got near to Hillary, somebody from crowd yelled out, I believe "Lock her up!", if I heard that right.

Immediately, following, you could tell sound was being muted off & on, maybe more crowd shout outs.

Yep, I said the DC police set all this chaos up, at the direct order of their TRAITOR National Guard General rules of engagement, when they did nothing last night at the Deploraball. And now the Snowflakes, fully emboldened by last night are running wild in DC.

I knew they would fail to prevent Trump being sworn in. I felt they would certainly try and disrupt things, which they have been doing in spades. And now, finally, now that the TRAITOR NG GENERAL IS GONE SOMEBODY IN THE DC POLICE SHOWS SOME BALLS AND SAYS THEY ARE WILLING TO MAKE MASS ARRESTS.

and if this is the official "protest coverage" thread--can the name please be changed to reflect that?

I didn't even look at it at first, because of the title----real protests & violence, I do not classify as "woo" or "rant"

Okay, it looks like I'm going to have to do this.

This thread is for everyone to post their woo, crazy crap, rants, dreams, visions, prophecies, etc, etc, regarding Trump and tomorrow's inauguration.

PUT IT ALL HERE, PEOPLE. At least if we gotta have venting about the subject, we'll know where to go to read it. I'll move it to the political room this weekend.

Ready.... Set.... GO!!!!!

and as seen above, Dennis did not start this thread to cover protests--but to cover "woo, crazy crap, rants, dreams, visions, prophecies, etc, etc, "

We need a PROTEST COVERAGE thread.

I have a nervous feeling all hell is going to break loose as the day (and night) wear on.

First three minutes of President Trump's Inauguration speech. Assassination attempt?

OK, please bear with me. I will be happy to have this moved to the "woo" thread.

I enjoyed President Trumps Inauguration speech. So much so, I replayed it a few times for friends and family.

Something major happened within the first three minutes of the speech.

I know there are folks here with a keen eye. I want you to watch this YouTube video and keep your attention in the upper right-hand side.

Here is the YouTube video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRBsJNdK1t0

I am attaching images in case this video disappears.

Just look carefully at the first three minutes. Tell me what you see. Tell me I'm just a crazy old guy.

Main points:

At 0:39 the man in question reaches into his right pocket, pulling out what looks like a cell phone.

At 1:33 the man is fidgeting around.

At 1:38 security hurries down the steps

At 1:42 the man sits back down again (OH SHIT, been caught!)

At 1:49 a woman seems to confront the man

At 1:43 Barack Obama looks pissed off

At 1:57 Both Hillary Clinton and GW Bush go under cover of umbrella (Hillary) and Plastic (GW)

At 1:59 President Trump is surrounded. These are obviously security (in formal military dress)

At 2:35 the all clear has been given.

Please take a look at this and tell me I am not paranoid.

Of course, if this YouTube video goes away I'll look like an idiot.

I think it is more likely a cell phone (from what I can see) but it probably scared the heck out of people; including the secret service - it could be an actual attempt but looks more like someone not thinking about what they were doing.

I saw that too and at the time didn't understand what it was about. It clearly was security and they wee definitely blocking the President from that side, and also the guy in charge bent down to talk to the man in question. To get a seat there you have to be somebody very important or well connected. My guess is that the rules for that area were that you weren't supposed to have a cell phone out or some such, and the guy figured the rules didn't apply to him.

All that said, Trump is a major threat to the globalists, socialists, and Islamists. I fear they will come gunning for him.

That long slinger object the guy put back in his pocket was definitely a concern

I didn't notice or see the man with the phone (Which is what I think it is too.) on the channel I was watching but I did think it was strange with all the up and down, stair climbing of first single then groups of military was going on during THE Inauguration speech.

A side note about the phone, is that we still can't rule out phones as possibly being converted into a new kind of weapon but my guess is that it was indeed a phone like MB said and the guy figured rules didn't apply to him.

My friends and I noticed it as well.

One would suppose that sitting in the presidential box means the person had to have been heavily vetted. That doesn't mean they couldn't have been "turned"; the threat of exposure or death is a powerful incentive.

With the proper tools, face recognition software (his face is visible from :11 - .15 on the video), and lip-reading ( the chief "officer" speaks for several seconds from 2:34 - 2:38, while directly facing the camera), someone ought to be able to shed some light on what was happening.

magdalen

Saw them surround Trump and then back away...at first did not know why. Makes sense but don't going pulling anything out of your pocket that close to the newly elected Pres of the US...especially during his inauguration speech. Bet he learned his lesson.

I saw that when it first happened and said to my wife "someone watching the speech on tv texted him and he responded and waved "

His cell phone probably kept buzzing and vibrating all the time. That's probably why he kept taking it out and why you say a woman got annoyed. Edit. reason: I looked closer at the red line and arrow.

BO ALWAYS looks pissed off, I called him the pissed off President

Yes security did come down because of the fidgeting man who should have known better, to gain such a close seat presumably he was well known to Trump's entourage.

Oh yeah sure, and just leave the guy sitting there for the rest of the speech! Its just people off the street sitting in the front row of the inauguration. Relax, this is nothing at all. If there was the most miniscule of threats , the man would of been removed in the blink of an eye!

Something was obviously handed over at 1:48. If you look closely, security swept some stuff up off the floor quickly.

So, in reality, it seems like Mr. Fidgety was taking cell phone pics when it was forbidden. Caused a security stir. The item being handed over by the woman was just a rain guard plastic pack for the guy two rows up.

Yep, that's what it was. :dvl1:
