Clymidia (spelling wrong I think).

Have any of you experienced this in your goat herds? If so how did you go about treating it? Would grapefruit extract in the water help? :shk:

Chlamydia can cause pneumonitis in goats, but it's rare. It's primarily a human disease. How do you know that's what your goats have?

I have had a couple of does to abort in their last 6 weeks of pregnancy. The first doe aborted while I was away, my husband felt everything looked normal. This was the first time for this doe to kid. The doe had a cough that I felt was a parasite problem but maybe not. The second doe to abort was a doe that had kidded once before but she also had developed a cough before aborting. I have been raising goats for years and have never had a doe to abort before. I am concerned.

I'd be concerned also. My Merck Vet Manual lists several diseases that could be causing this but I read no symptom of cough listed with any of them. If it is Chlamydia the Manual says tetracycline does the job. I had about 4 does abort 1 year and that was the year the deer were jumping the fence and eating the hay out of the outside manger so I think they picked up something from the deer. They may also have developed a mineral deficiency - have you changed where you buy hay or changed their feed at all? I know it's really hard to find a vet that knows anyting about goats, but luckily mine knows something. Any experienced goat raising neighbors you can call? Good luck.
