SCAM Check your credit card billing

Just recieved my credit card bill today from US Bank. I always pay my card off every month. I see an interest charge noted. Say what?

So I called them. Almost 22% interest. They claimed it was an “accounting error”. Sorry, we’ll issue you credit. I told them I never carry a balance. How does an accounting error happen? She laughed and said she’s never seen it before.

Yeah … sure you haven’t

Owner says he or his wife may have been "phished."

Wife got a text on her smart phone which indicated "suspicious activity" and the text questioning if the charges were legitimate. There was a link in the text designed for use with a smart phone.

"How did they know my telephone number to send a query?" she says.

Owner says "DON'T click the link - someone may be "phishing" you and are looking for a confirmation that this is a legitimate card. Instead call the number on the back of your credit card.." So she did as he said.

Wife learned that the account had been "tapped" several times in the last couple of days. The account was "reviewed" over the phone and the erroneous charges removed/forgiven. The charges seemed to be for fast foods/door-dash sort of charges for as much as $600 plus. The "warning text" was not the card issuer.

The card was then "deactivated" and the card issuer advised to "cut up your cards."

New cards are being sent - Owner says they have not arrived yet.

Meanwhile, both Owner and his wife are using the "alternate" card - which is not related to the "daily card." And saved for just these sort of issues.

Had a debit card issue two weeks ago. All of a sudden the chip or swiping just stopped working. Went to the bank that day. Confirmed it wasn’t working … no explanation. Just issued a new card with new number.

I remember I put my cell phone in the same pocket I kept my cards. Thought maybe the phone did something to it. I know it has deleted room card keys at Hotels in the past. They said the phone can delete the card from working

I do several times per month. We pay our cards weekly for that very reason. They will scam you no matter how you look at it.

For me, it was a phone call spoofing my card issuers number. Give away was when he asked me to read information from my card. Reported to credit union; still happening. I may just kill that account altogether.

Then, today - got an email from my main bank saying a card number I didn't recognize was due to expire soon. I might check on that one; I might not. Deleted email. I don't THINK it was an old card number, so it could be they've got their databases scrambled. Did ask that I log in and verify my address. Which is pointless since I don't have that card in my posession.

A method of protection is to have your credit card company send you a text and an email every time there is a charge to your credit card. Simplifies knowing when a charge is not valid.

We always inform the credit card company and dispute unknown charges.

Shopped at Walmart one day and an hour later charges were showing up on the credit card we used. The charges was keyed in - no card was present. Red flag. The credit card company took care of the charges and a new card was issued.

For example Chase goes down...
How does that effect a different banks. ... doesn't....but you can't turn your card on...
We don't have any debit cards....
We don't text at all ever to anybody...we don't push buttons if a bank calls...we hang up...and call the bank ourselves..

I keep my cards in RFID sleeves in my purse until I need to use one..no web no on or off..
If it's off and the web goes down how do you turn it back on
Both of us buy the quantity pack of RFID sleeves from Amazon and every single card we have is in one.

I keep a debit card, my company issued card, and 2 credit cards in my wallet. The two cards I keep have beyond stupid limits on them but I want the flexibility in case something happens. Want a new Suburban? Charge it........that kind of limits.

The rest of them (wife likes to apply for them) are in a book (like a picture album with clear sleeves) all safely wrapped up in RFID sleeves and inside our safe. Those are only pulled out when we both agree to use one. Part of using one is our firm stipulation the bill is paid, in full, by the end of the week we used it.

Which is a good thing, no interest. But it's also bad in a way. Seems every time we use one, pay it off immediately the next month we get a congratulatory letter saying the card credit limit has been increased.

We live in an apartment, but we have a Home depot credit card with a now $ 30,000 limit on it. Why do they do that???

That sounds like my LL Bean...in the safe in a RFID travel wallet...but it never leaves the house.. i have a couple like that... that just stay home....
Our great mystery is also Home Depot....DH has two cards...he tried to use card number one.
Nothing wrong with it. .but the cashier had him do all this stuff with card number one laying on the counter and he ended up with Home Depot....card number two...with a much higher
limit... so he now has one for each hand... :-)..
I don't pay them until I get the bill...and check the charges....cause we charge lots of stuff...

A friend who was in IT for the CIA....told me years ago to never do any type of banking on line....too many can view it.........??????....never ever never...so we never have...
Try to stay low tech...

I can relate and yes, I have purchased a vehicle on a card before (had to go to the parts department to swipe the card, that was the dealership's only card machine).

Truly amazing things happen when all of your credit scores move into the 800s.

What happened to my was I ordered 3 bottles of CBD gummies from Earthmed for $39 special. They sent me 6 and charged my card $439. I filed Fraud complaint Citi and I am getting it removed. Kim has warned about this on the Net. Some companies are doing this, adding things to your order. Watch your orders and billing and never order anything from Earthmed.
