GUNS/RLTD Car mount for holster

Okay guys. I am looking to mount a gun holster in the wife's car. At this point in time she is placing her gun in the glove compartment and to be honest, it is just too far for her to reach if she ever needed to use it.

So, the idea is to mount a holster in her car where she can reach it at all times. She does have tinted windows so as long as the mount isn't too obvious, it will work and not be seen.

Based upon body size and her age, it would be best to have one that mounts either near her driving leg knee on the center console or underneath the steering wheel.

She uses an SW MP 9mm 2.0 compact.

All suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

Um, she needs to be wearing it.

Can't at work. We are out we are good. It is for when she is driving home, in the car time.

I was able to set one up for the truck that I can reach and pull in a snap. The idea is to do the same for the car.

Think of it as a step up with the goal of 100% availability of the gun. Right now she can't get to it when she is driving or sitting in the car.

My brother has a gun safe in the center console of his truck and jeep. Pricey if I remember correctly....but safe and easily accessible.

What kind, make and model of vehicle does your wife drive? What do you have to work with? My pickup and my wifes Xterra have a roof mounted consoles that have a pop open swing down section for sun glasses and what-not that I can fit a small auto in. It fits snugly but is super fast and easy to get to. Couple of those super magnets expoxed in to hold the pistol securely works like a charm.

Search car holsters for handguns in your favorite search engine. There are a ton of options on the market for various mounting points in a vehicle.

I was thinking about one of my IWB's stuck under the steering column with heavy Velcro

Try "Console Vaults" for those inserts.

Good point.

Nissan Versa Note.

There is no roof space and the seats are too tight to read with any ease due to the steering wheel.

There are a lot of good magnetic holster and one's for under the dash. They cost around 20-30 dollars. Here are a couple to give you an idea...

Copy and paste into an Amazon search:

Stinger Magnetic Gun Holder w/Safety Trigger Guard Protection

Piggy-G 2Pack Magnetic Gun Mount & Holster for Vehicle and Home

Then for a little more money there are ones that strap to the driver's seat...

The problem folks, is that normally the gun CANNOT BE VISIBLE in the car. You do not want prying cop-eyes to see it.

When we are planning on going somewhere we can't carry, I leave mine in the holster, and stick it down between the seat and center console. Tight enough not to move around, handy in case, and not viewable, mostly. What is viewable is black on black, difficult to see.

I have a gun safe in my center console in my truck for when I have to leave my gun in my vehicle, better SAFE than sorry. I got one specifically for my vehicle's console. I got an under seat mounted one for my Jeep, very secure and you cannot see it. You can get inexpensive ones that come with a cable to secure it, drill a few holes and BOLT it in place. I have a holster mounted where the dash/console meet, nice pullout, out of sight.

You can use an IWB holster on the edge of a door pocket, or get an OWB and mount it to the side of the console, steering column, or under the dash front. A thief might see the empty holster and that's it. I put an OWB on the bottom of my daughters dash using a couple screws, it's edge is right at the front toward her, you cannot see it until you put a gun in it, it's a bit to the right of the steering column, straight pull out, easy to use.

The magnetic mounts work well, problem is finding metal. They make a mount that is just a metal dowel with a base, you can adjust them for any angle, etc. I'll have to find the info on them and get a link to them.

I have a console vault in each of my vehicles, mounted inside the center console. Ideal for leaving valuables and (if you have one, for weapons) when you leave the car for a while. Expensive, but the "Console Vault" brand is a very high quality product.

I'v ehad these so long that I can't imagine trading cars without installing one in the new car. https://www.consolevault.com/

What kind of weapon?

As a temp, use a McDonalds sack, and lay on the seat. Or, one of those "clipboard" deals that opens up to hold papers. Both could be laying on the seat, easy access, and not draw unwanted attention.

I have seen on line set ups that wrap around the seat to hold a pistol. Do a search.

Safe for inside the car while parked. Armory Valentine IWB which has a slot for the belt hook so the holster can be pulled about 3" higher when seated, I love mine.

best place to mount a holster is near the seatbelt release, , if someone tries to jack her car, they usually pull the door open,if they try to pull her out she can say , I have to undo the seatbelt, and the gun is right there

I think laying on the seat would be a bad idea. Think defending from road rage after a fender bender. Gun ends up on the floor, maybe in the dark. Read up on the Miami shootout, it happened to one of the Fibies.

I wouldn't be comfortable leaving my pistol open in a vehicle. I have one of the cheap lock boxes with a cable under the seat for when I have to leave it for some reason, going into a school, etc. Otherwise it's on my person.

I have thought though that the driver's door pocket wouldn't be a bad place to have one. Release your seat belt with your right hand and it would look normal to move your right hand to the door.

Yeah, not real wild with on the seat. But I said a TEMP solution, rather than in the glove box. I am like Dennis, prefer in holster, on a belt.

Maybe he can find a better permanent solution that is satisfactory to his wife

One accepted tactic is to use the left hand to undo the belt and swing it back towards the door..

That way you control it as it retracts and doesn't tangle with anything.

Anybody observing will be watching the large movements of that hand and belt.

At the same time you use the right hand to draw.

This needs to be practiced or it won't work well.
