car battery in lawn mower?

Hello,
I was wondering if it is doable to put a car battery in a riding lawn mower. A mower battery here is $50 and a car battery is $40. I was thinking that with a car batteries increased capacity, one could possible use it as a drivable power pack around the homestead.
Any opinions would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Tim

If you have room in your battery box/tray, there should be no problem. Terminals may be different; you might have to adapt them. But a lawn tractor/portable generator battery is just a smaller version of a car battery. I'm surprised they cost more.

A car batt. is OK if it will fit (as mentioned previously) AND AND AND AND AND if the mower is 12 volt and not 6 volt like many mowers.

By "portable power pack", do you mean for the battery power itself? If so, a car batt. isn't going to do a whole lot more. Batteries for providing battery power need to be of the deep cycle type, like a marine battery for a trolling motor. The power of automotive batteries, even the really big ones for heavy equipment, is in their cranking amps.
