Misc Canning Groups Disappearing on Social Media?!?

packyderms_wife

Neither here nor there.
I don't even know where to put this info. I noticed over the space of a week that several of the canning groups I'm a member of on social media have vanished. Poof, gone, no more. I asked a couple of friends that are also members so they went looking and found the same thing I've noticed, they're gone.

I know at one point there were warning labels coming up in various posts telling posters that if they thought someone was prepping too much that there was a safe place to report these members and that there was also counseling. So now I'm wondering what else is going on.

I did find my cranberry sauce recipe at the National Center for Home Canning site, so was happy about that, have yet to find the cranberry bourbon recipe though.

Btw one of the largest home canning, dehydrating, freeze drying food preservation groups also disappeared.

The people that started the groups may have decided to remove themselves from soc media.

The thing is these groups have multiple moderators and an with the one group "Canning", it has multiple owners and moderators, so someone would likely take over the group. Like I said I've asked other people and they checked and they are gone. Maybe faceborg is shadow banning them at the moment. I doubt I've said anything to get myself banned and blocked as I very rarely ever post in these groups.

Also a couple of the fermentation groups I'm a member of have also vanished in the past month.

Kinda makes you appreciate Granny's Kitchen here at TBK.

I've heard several of the small survival groups who had private gatherings on FB pulled the plug for Op Sec reasons. There's talk about reuniting on Gab, but others are leaving social media, period.

I belong to two crochet groups where political discussions aren't allowed. I'll keep those memberships for now. Government busybodies will be bored to tears, unless they happen to like the topic.

I was on multiple but got booted from several by canning nazis. I tend to be quiet on them for the most part. I'm part of a few very old canning groups that moved to groupsio from yahoo. Lots of good info but seems a lot of people are tucking in and being careful.

SOS, and it’s associated groups are still there.

Canning, freezing, dehydrating, food preserving, and homesteading, still there.

Canning, dehydrating, and long term food storaGe, still there.

Canning simple recipes, still there.

There are more, although I don’t see one called simply”canning”.

Interesting none of 5hem are coming up for me.

There has definitely been an upsurge in hoarding nazis, especially about lids. Some of these groups, like rebel canners, seems like they thrive on drama and arguing.

An admin from the SOS group said recently "We are thinking of shutting down this group and moving to a backup version of it because of the restrictions currently placed on this group."

A new group has been created. In Facebook, search "stocking our shelves" and you will see the backup group listed.

People are quick to forget the resent past!
Back when George W. Bush was in office pulled some paperwork his father started and was kept in a filing cabinet that was in closet within Treasury department. This act did not have a name and they called it the Patriot Act and was passed by all but one member of congress (Ron Paul). Later Bush's appointments to DHS and later referred to as Home Land Gestopago had these directors that for some reason was all out against farmers and people putting up food as they have done for century's and go as far to twist it into some kind of crime they called hoarding.
Problem is not enough people will collectively stand up to them and force them to back down and abandon this idea.

A lot of the canning and homesteading groups are getting slammed by FB because FB doesn't like the conversations. And of course you always have the people who freak put and report ro FB instead of group moderators.

Canning and preserving recipe links below. I know these aren't "social media groups" but one of these days we may need to go it on our own anyway. I will try to add some more later.

This is a very good link.

I don't have much patience for those kinds of groups on facebook. There's too much bad info, there's always a clique of know it alls who've been doing whatever the skill set is for about a year and think they are experts and they resent anyone who shows up and knows more than them. I could go on and on and I realize not every page is like that but I've run into enough that it has turned me off of them. I much prefer the forum format but those are slowly disappearing and have been for years.

I use to really love the mrssurvival forum for canning but I hadn't been there in years and thought I'd check it out before posting a link. The sub forum i liked best that was all about canning seems to have disappeared or has been renamed...or maybe I just didn't look close enough.

I have some really old ones I've used for relish, jams and the like. IIRC the mouths are an odd size and you have to use their lids, ball lids won't work, but I could be wrong.

I expect at some point there will be a posting like the ones from Covid. You are now banned as mis-information is being posted on FB. Canning is viewed as an unhealthy practice etc etc. Or something like that.

There is a BIG push back on being ready. That does not help the government control you if you are ready.

One family friend asked, with no malice, why we grew so much peppers? He said you can always buy them! Ignoring the flavor aspect, we explained that many things are going away and we wanted to eat what we want when we want. He was fine with that, but many are just hostile to you if they think you have "more" than them.

I saw this last year when all of the canning lids disappeared, then the vinegars, sugars, and other canning supplies. Then I started seeing resentment towards those who were gardening, even though they had been gardening for years if not decades. The great TP shortage showed us how people could really be when caught in a bind.

My WM has had ball jars all year...granted not a huge selection at any given time but if you keep checking, they will eventually have what you want. They've also had lids but again, you have to check every time you go in. They must be listening to people because I remember back in the day, they cleared out their whole canning selection in the fall. It wasn't a huge issue because our grocery stores always had their left over stock from summer and you could get what you needed in moderation...at a higher price.

Gab has 4 canning groups that I saw just now. The regular canning group has almost 51k members, there is also a rebel canning group, a noncomformist group and a more food preserving group.
