Neera Tanden withdrew her nomination for Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Tuesday evening.
In a statement, Tanden wrote:
Dear President Biden,
I am writing to you to withdraw my nomination for Director of the Office of Management and Budget. It has been an honor of a lifetime to be considered for this role and for the faith placed in me. I appreciate how hard you and your team at the White House has worked to win my confirmation. Unfortunately, it now seems clear that there is no path forward to gain confirmation, and I do not want continued consideration of my nomination to be a distraction from your other priorities.I am incredibly grateful for your leadership on behalf of the American people and for your agenda that will make such a transformative difference in people’s lives.

There are a couple of positives out of this.

First, that person is a piece of work - a rabid hater. Boss of OMB is not as glamorous a position as something like SecState or SecDef but it's taken on an important role in the bowels of bureaucracy. People like her need to be kept out of dot gov jobs as much as possible.

Secondly, this demonstrates a serious weakness in what's shaping up to be the weakest presidency of our time, which should give Jimmy Carter some relief in his latter days on this earth. This was probably a shock to the Bai-Den team after having other nominations sail through, particularly amid the glowing press reports of whatever His Own Self isn't doing that day.

They folded without a fight and credit should be given to Joe Manchin (D-WV) for stepping up to the plate and making Bai-Den throw strikes. It says volumes that the administration wimped out on this - more of the "all hat, no cattle" which seems to be their early hallmark.

On the other hand, I certainly didn't read much about this from the Republikrat leadership, although there were some good moments during the committee hearing from the minority members.
