Bay Area Heat Advisory Upgraded To Excessive Heat Warning

Bay City News Service Published 6:50*pm, Tuesday, June 20, 2017

A heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service for the Bay Area has been upgraded to an excessive heat warning on Thursday for some of the hotter inland areas of the North Bay mountains and the East Bay valleys and hills.

The heat advisory has also been extended until Thursday evening for most inland areas and expanded to the San Francisco Bay shoreline, including Berkeley, Oakland, Fremont, Redwood City and San Mateo - but not San Francisco.

An upgraded heat advisory was issued by the National Weather Service Tuesday as high temperatures were expected to continue in the Bay Area.

Coastal locations will be near normal, but inland weather is expected to be roughly 20 degrees hotter than usual.

Temperatures will rise an estimated two to five degrees from Tuesday to Wednesday, then another two to five degrees on Thursday - and some areas may exceed 110 degrees.

The weather will begin to cool off Friday, continuing into the weekend.

I used to live in Walnut Creek, inland from SF and it was really hot there in the summer.

We have had excessive heat warning here in S. Cal high desert too. Should be no more than 88 at the most at this elevation instead it has been between 102 and110 with no end in sight.

Same here in Vegas. Now, yes it happens every summer but not this early. These are late July temps. Our excessive heat warning was just extended through Sunday night. We tied the highest all time high yesterday at 117 (airport temp) and if it continues we will break the record for most consecutive days above 100.

Phoenix is even worse and my friends in Havasu well, they are wearing fireproof clothing!

I park my car under an overhang and this was when I left work at 4 yesterday

Will this affect the snowpack above oroville?

My daughter's family went camping in the Santa Cruz mountains down by Big Trees weekend before last. There was still snow and the trails had snow, but there were areas of slush and mud. Of course that is on the coast, not inland, and likely a lower elevation but a cooler climate.

Be Well, I understand Gray Back pass is open.

3 days ago, before the hottest of the predicted heat wave hit, bf's work mate took a photo of his dashboard, 123F about an hour south of Tucson. All the workers are on their week off starting yesterday so I have no idea how hot it is there now, toasty for sure.

This is happening all over the Northern Hemisphere from China to Ireland; we had almost record breaking temperatures here (which isn't that hot, though the humidity is a steam bath) and the UK broke them; China is worried about their Summer wheat harvest frying int he fields and of course there were the forest fires in Portugal.

Usually, the Coast of California (especially in the North) only gets temperatures this high around October when the winds blow "backward" from Mexico; a similar thing happens in Ireland about the same time when the blow up from Spain.

Not saying this is global warming exactly but I suspect the jet streams are acting strange...

Indian doc yesterday said her July vacation to India is cancelled because of intense heat anticipated. Some of the areas here in America, also have to cancel flights because planes can't get off runways when the air temp is in the high 120* degrees - or when their wheels are sinking in the melty macadam runways.

Still 94 here at 9:00 pm. We are about 70 miles NW of Corpus Christi. Winds have been out of the north because of TS Cindy. Day time temps have been over 100.
