Not trying to derail the thread. And I’m not a military sonar tech guy. But from what I’ve read online the sonar buoys they’re probably using go to about 2000 yards deep or 6000 feet. That sub is supposedly much deeper, twice as far. So it wouldn’t even reach the sub.

Not sure about them detecting sound … but … well … just putting it out there … some else might be going on.

These sonars are within military subs range

Sound. Either active, where a sub blasts a whale-deafening burst, sometimes actively steered, and then listens for echos from other ships or obstructions, and forms an image of the area, or passive listening for noises made by subs and such. I’m guessing the bouys are passive only, listening for subs primarily. Their “range” is not really of depth, but of distance, thermal layers, and quietness of the source.

Pray they have calmed down............and locally the usual .gov hustle and bustle has actually stopped in the past hour or so.
I no longer post in the BS but some areas of the swamp have been hopping lately. Your post ties in well with the "hopping"; gives it context.
Alfaman, was wondering what you were seeing/hearing when all this was going on.

Are you sure about that?

One of the B-52s are in the air. Not rare, but not a daily thing to show up either.

Edited to add:

  • 2 of the E-3's are up. SNRY60 (AE11E2) and LIEGE31 (AE11DB). Both are E3TF Sentry (TF33), and over Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle.
  • It is not every day I see a C130 fly out of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. It landed in Tinker AFB in Oklahoma, then went East, appears to be heading to Washington D.C.

Ok; what is an EAM? This thread has been going for the last few day and I have no idea and you do a internet search on EAM you may be surprised with what you get.

Try the forum search, like most people do.

The info will even be pre-digested for you.
