thanks! By chance do you happen to have a recipe for liquid homemade soap?
I found this one that I'll have a go with. I think I'd still use some Calgon water softener, though, along with this.

There are a lot of homemade liquid soap recipes to choose from especially from the internet but not all are as simple and easy as our recipe in here. Aside from regular bath soap, liquid soap is one of the most commonly used type of soap at home, in the office and anywhere you may go. For this reason, being able to make homemade liquid soap for your personal use can save you a lot of money and ,who knows, might also become a money making venture for you. Here is a simple and easy homemade liquid soap recipe that will be a joy to make.
The 10 Minute Liquid Soap Recipe
Ingredients:
Castile soap (olive oil soap)
Boiling water
Essential oils (your choice)
Procedure:
1. Using a cheese grater, shave the castile soap into a bowl.
2. For every cup of shaved castile soap, pour in 2 cups of boiling water. Always remember the ratio used for this recipe is 2:1 (2 cups of boiling water for every cup of shaved soap)
3. Add a few drops of the essential oil of your choice (cinnamon, lemon, or a combination of oils that you want. You can also use green tea or fine coffee granules for a different
4. Stir well until the castile soap is fully melted.
5. Let the mixture cool down. If it is not yet blended, stir or use a hand mixer to blend it completely.
6. Pour into a bottle with a spray spout.
Observations:
1. Smell: Basically, the resulting liquid soap will smell the way you want it to depending on the essential oils you chose. Be careful in combining the oils so that it will not come out too pungent. The best is to research first which oils when combined will make a refreshing or flowery scent.
2. Texture: The texture will be a bit slimy and a bit dense, not the gel like liquid soaps we are used to. However, it will not be too greasy because of the castile soap and it will be foamy when you use it with water.
3. Effectiveness: The liquid soap, though not too foamy, will still be an effective anti bacterial soap. If you use oils such as sunflower oil or wheat germ oil, your liquid soap may also have some curative properties. It is nice to use for washing hands or even for a facial wash.
4. Skin Issues: There is no problem using it with sensitive skin because it is basically only olive oil and will not be harmful to the skin. Olive oil is a good moisturizing agent and it will be gentle to any skin type.
Creating this recipe takes only 10 minutes or so depending on the quantity of liquid soap you would like to make. It takes 30 minutes to cool down the mixture before you can pour it into plastic or glass bottles. But what is wonderful about this is that you can get to experiment on different oils and even make your own unique blend which you can also give or sell to friends.
