"New research shows that Uranus, a chilly, hostile planet with a number of peculiar features, was the victim of a devastating impact during those early years, and it might explain some of the planet’s strange personality."
I tend to notice strange adjective - and other word - use. It's not so much that I object, but my eye is drawn to it. In this case, from the OP, we are led to believe that Uranus is hostile. Are there legions of Urani forming to perform some dastardly attack on Earth? Are they poised, Pearl Harbor-like, to attack us when we least expect it?
Further into the sentence we discover that Uranus has a strange personality! I had no idea that planets could have a personality! In fairness to the author, perhaps he was referring to those dastardly Urani and not the actual planet.
I'd probably have a strange personality too, if I had to live on that frozen rock! I might even be making plans to attack Earth...
